Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Am I the only one to have become quite emotional at Tony's award ceremony?
Well done Sophie!!

MorningCoffeePlease · 09/07/2026 19:29

It was good to hear people being nice to Tony and giving him recognition, makes a change!
Good for Sophie appearing in the programme.

JanFebAndOnwards · 09/07/2026 19:17

I thought it must be Sophie but why on earth did they not have a line mentioning her name, I’d have had no clue apart from “not Kate/ Camilla” really.
Not sure LEAF is exactly well known…

They did. Tracy said she was looking for the Duchess of Edinburgh, married to Prince Edward, I thought that was over egging it so not sure how much else they could say.

She's the Honorary President of Leaf and presumably giving it some publicity. Good that they got someone on who actually has an interest in farming practices.

FizzingAda · 09/07/2026 19:37

I really really wish Peggy had been there to see Tony's award. Wonder if she'd have been pleased or sour.

JanFebAndOnwards · 09/07/2026 19:53

Oh apologies then I obviously missed that line!!

Gonners · 09/07/2026 20:26

I quite liked the sound of Sophie - refreshingly normal for a member of That Family!

Yes, I thought she sounded natural, some special guests have not.

Gonners · 09/07/2026 20:53

Does anyone remember Princess Margaret's performance? It was hilarious.

TeenToTwenties · 09/07/2026 21:33

Oh wonderful . Reading this has made me smile after a very stressful day. DM in hospital, and, put in this way, I may be here for some time.
This is not an attempt to derail, just an appreciation of reading about the episode.

Hilarious in what way? Have just listened and am afraid I don’t see it myself apologies!

Gonners · 10/07/2026 06:32

It was partly the utterly banal royal questions (good scriptwriting there) but mainly the terrified grovelling of Jack Woolley. But not everyone finds the same things amusing.

Sorry about your mum.
Sending you a hug💐x

UhOhRatPoo · 10/07/2026 07:08

Sophie was surprisingly good! Less wooden than Amber’s Mum.

Madcats · 10/07/2026 08:11

Gosh - I’ve been listening to her as Jill my entire life. Real end of an era.

macaroon8 · 10/07/2026 08:26

Does feel like the end of an era

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/07/2026 08:56

Very sad news, if not unexpected. Just listening to Tim Bentinck (David) talking about her. Lovely tribute.

I know the People of Ambridge seem to spend almost no time at all doing their actual jobs - is that why Chris the farrier is not as tanned as all the other farriers? What a strange thing for him to be fretting about.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but Tony is in the recent audio-version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Well, you know, the actor. He plays Ted Tonks and I recognised him immediately - his first appearance is when Harry and Hagrid crash the flying motorbike in his garden. It made me laugh because I though "Blimey Harry, I think we're in Ambridge" in Hagrid's voice 😂

TherapistInATabard · 10/07/2026 13:42

Yes and he also played Prof Binns in Chamber of Secrets. Carol Tregorran plays Auntie Muriel in Deathly Hallows 😂. There are probably more but their voices are so distinctive.
