Thanks, @JudyCoolibar. I have so many - I am trying hard to cull.
I've not been to the NT property properly so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to pay the entrance fee, but you don't actually go inside the main building.

As lovely as the gardens might be, and the view from there is splendid, £23 is a lot of money.
(You might be able to guess which NT place it is - Clue: I only need two people who have been on TA this year.)

@Madcats , thanks.

TottersBlankly · 22/09/2026 11:17

Hmm … A useful new arrangement for Lynda might be splitting off a section of Ambridge Hall for the use of a long term lodger / couple / family. But I can’t think of anyone likely whose comings and goings would be any of Brian’s business.

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 11:24

Another clue, this one about where it is: An Archer matriarch walks backwards into the entrance of a local location.

NT bookshops are the best bit about visiting a property (though I concede that some are better than others). Thank goodness for the entrance fee. I don't need any encouragement to amass books. What sorts of books are they likely to have?
There are 5 NT locations not far from me. Might be getting a membership at this rate. Smile

Hmm, wondering who the mate might be. Paul would be the likely candidate but he's not in the cast that week.

Ruth is worried about a friend
Since when are Ruth and Anna friends?? I think Anna has made it quite clear that they are not.

Ambridge-in-The-Archers has two local stations: Hollerton Junction, three miles to the south-west, and Felpersham, seventeen miles to the east. I don't think real-map stations are any particular help with real-map location, are they? Because the place doesn't exist on a real map.

Madcats · 22/09/2026 13:25

Grr FatRosie!!!! I can only think of two big gardens where the house is closed to the public: Wakehurst or Nymans.

An Archer matriarch could be Pat? (Jill, Peggy, Clarrie rejected)
Entrance of a local location; is that the first letter?

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 13:27

It's not either of those. It's the name of a village where the NT property is. For example, if the place was Baddesley Clinton, the location would be Baddesley Clinton or Solihull. The first clue would need a Baddesley and a Clinton to have been on TA this year.

Ooh! Warm. @Madcats. The house isn't closed to the public, as such, but you wouldn't visit it as an NT normally.
It has had someone well-known visit during the past 10 years.

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 13:36

an NT property normally.

It had some infamous visitors in the early1960s.

It's not marketed as 'Something Gardens' and you'd know it as 'Something' or 'Something House'

Madcats · 22/09/2026 14:23

Sissinghurst?

At this rate I might consult the handbook!

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 14:27

It's not Ham House, although we've probably had a ham or two appear.

Had to look up Nymans and Wakehurst. Neither are near me, but not horrendously far.

I've always fancied visiting Sissinghurst.

I thought my first clue was unbelievably easy. I mentioned Hi Wyc in a pp.

misread location as station: sorry.

The only NT house I know near Hi Wy is Hughenden.

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 14:34

There is a station in the real village. Not all trains stop there. The one before it is either a part of the body you probably no longer have or a very well-known politician, depending on the direction of travel.

It's not Hughenden but you might have one of the names.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/09/2026 14:43

Cliveden?

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 14:46

Yes!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/09/2026 14:56

I thought Bourne End was a terminus! It looks like one from the road, which I sometimes go along because of the "preloved furniture shop" opposite the station, where I have found a very nice chair twice, and at a sensible price.

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 15:04

Bourne End is nearer but you need to get a train that goes there or change in Maidenhead.

The Bourne End Auction Rooms are great! I also like the pub that you can only get to on foot (or boat?) The Bounty All we need is Nelson Gabriel.

The house itself is a hotel. The well-known visitor was a Miss Markle the night before her (second) wedding, and it was connected to the Profumo scandal.
The train station is between Maidenhead and Burnham.
The village it Taplow. (Pat, Lower Loxley)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/09/2026 15:17

Oh, argh, Burnham, of course. D'oh.

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 15:35

A notable location in Burnham is Dorneywood. It isn't in Dorney, which was never Eton Dorney.
I think I did quite well with the clues. I thought they were easy but I knew the answer.

I was reading an excerpt of 'that' book (blame the Penguin newsletter) and it mentioned the Hind's Head. You can probably picture me thinking 'I've been there!'.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/09/2026 15:51

Bray or Aldermaston? Both are fine, but for quite different reasons.

FatRosie · 22/09/2026 18:52

Bray. The Aldermaston one looks nice. Aldermaston is synonymous with something else for me. The top end of Hampshire isn't far from there.
Not NT but Highclere and Stratfield Saye are thereabouts.

Do the Pargetters ever visit places to check out the competition?
Back in Nigel and Julia days I could picture Lower Loxley but now I can only picture a rather modern but dated flat tucked out the back as their living quarters.

Wouldn't Fallon be checking out events? Why isn't she freelancing? She'd get plenty of work.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 23/09/2026 08:53

In terms of NT properties in that neck of the woods, there’s Greys Court.

Re Brian, I wonder if Lynda is going to want to rent land from him for the dog run field?

TherapistInATabard · 23/09/2026 14:27

By accepting liability for Monty’s attack, what sort of ‘record’ does Lynda have? Would she be able to get insurance for a dog field?

FatRosie · 23/09/2026 14:51

I'd forgotten about Grey's Court. It's in a lovely part of the country.

Wasn't it on Brian's land Monty did the sheep-worrying?

TherapistInATabard · 26/09/2026 06:56

Oh yes of course it was. God I hope Kate isn’t going to ask Brian 😬.

Help may arrive from an unexpected source with their own complicated emotions about the situation. “Dirty Harry” Harrison has an awkward encounter and receives a few home truths from a mate, while Lynda spots an opening that could lead to a surprising new arrangement, which doesn’t impress Brian - but then what does these days?

Total TV Guide 27th Sept to 2nd Oct
Amber and George are all at sea with their new arrival. Ed and Emma offer their support - but how well will that go down with the frazzled first time parents? Meanwhile, some welcome encouragement offers a glimmer of hope. Ever-resourceful Lynda spots an opportunity, but finds chivvying everyone on board tricky.
