Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

Madcats
Does Justin have ANY family that we know of?

Wasn't there an elderly female relative he was helping to make sense of some business or other, or did I dream that?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/02/2026 18:14

It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that the family running the farm should have the farmhouse for themselves and their children and their retired parents should move to a very lovely cottage in the village. David and Ruth needed to be close to the livestock, Phil and Jill didn't any longer. Bert and Freda were delighted with the bungalow. Shula wanted to move from Glebe Cottage to the Stables, so it all worked out very nicely.

I thought that Stella wasnt overly keen on Rosie so am surprised she has proposed to Pip - perhaps they will have the Brookfield Barn for their reception venue (with David & Ruth manning the bar 🤣)

Still hoping Rex to get fixed up

As for Helen looking for new accommodation .... it seems the scriptwriters have forgotten about that storyline as well as her dating Dane & forgive me in case I missed it but did Lily apply for the Events Manager role at Grey Gables or is Dane doing that along with all his other roles ?

Brad and anyone except Amber
Chelsea and Freddie, or someone else who is worthy of her
Bring on the Buttons! Molly, Tilly and a brother with a similar name - Billy maybe - or am I imagining that?

Definitely Chelsea and Freddie.

Gonners · 04/02/2026 20:16

Bearing in mind that Freddie's paternal grandmother was a "showgirl" of some sort and his maternal grandmother demonstrated kitchen equipment (presumably in Underwoods), Chelsea would be a step up.

AnneWhittle · 04/02/2026 20:22

well thank you everyone in reassuring me I was not alone in thinking the dog had swallowed a sex toy
although maybe I dwelt on it too long, worrying about the batteries and wondering what would show up on an x ray that didn't have batteries

FizzingAda · 04/02/2026 21:10

Given that Cleo is, I think, a small terrier, to swallow a vibrator would be some feat 😂. (The thought fleetingly crossed my mind!).
I made a rich chocolate cake long ago for some friends coming to dinner, and while seeing them off my two pups got half of it off the coffee table where I had foolishly left it, and snaffled the lot (after having spread it liberally into the white sheepskin rug). No rings or vibrator were harmed.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/02/2026 21:26

We were told when she savaged Rosie's toy giraffe that she was a terrier and that shaking small creatures by the neck would be her instinct, I think.

Sadly, Rosie isn't small.

Have Tony and Ruth already actually already inherited the farm given that Jill is still alive? I’m wondering if this is our inheritance story… can she change the will and die on the way home meaning no one can change her mind (but it’s contestable?). How does she feel about Pip and Ruth… do we know…? There must be some reason the SW have kept her alive this long but I don’t think the actress will be up to a big part in whatever is (hopefully) going to play out.

I really do hope this engagement is just a plot device….

Cantsleepdontsleep · 04/02/2026 23:07

I meant Pip and Stella…. In relation to Jill’s approval (or not). Could she kick off about them inheriting?

There was episode after tedious episode years ago devoted to how the ownership of the farm was organised after Phil and Jill retired - A shares and B shares and all manner of safeguards to ensure David and Ruth’s interest was safe from those of the other siblings. No doubt someone else can explain it all, but what I can confirm is that it is definitely not all owned by Jill.

You can get small lipstick sized ones. I don't think it would be beyond a terrier.

Nos4r2 · 05/02/2026 05:07

Sorry I forgot Adam and Ian, they are so rarely heard.

nah, the scriptwriters were definitely writing it to sound like a sex toy. It was painful.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 05/02/2026 10:41

Many thanks!! I have read that before but clearly forgot as too desperately grasping at straws that this (unbelievable) engagement might be leading to a more gripping storyline. Part of me wants Ruth to have some sort of delayed midlife crisis and run off with Stella, which would get rid of Ruth but we’d still be stuck with Pip.

It actually never crossed my mind that it was a sex toy. I thought she was worried about chocolate.😇.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 05/02/2026 12:22

@Cantsleepdontsleepa jilted Pip would lead to hours and hours of her complaining.

Ideally I’d like her to marry Stella and then go under the wheels of a tractor leaving Stella free to inherit. I think Stella would cope well after a suitably brief period of mourning.

Gonners · 05/02/2026 12:37

Yep. She might take an hour off to attend the funeral, I suppose ... or she might not.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 05/02/2026 13:14

In the absence of a laugh emoji, I’ve taken to applauding instead!

OrphanBlankly · 05/02/2026 13:35

It did briefly cross my mind that for most of the sixty odd years I’ve been listening to TA, it has been in the anticipation of enjoyment, even if I’m not enjoying current storylines - but I don’t want to listen to thirty years of Pip married to Stella. So maybe I won’t want to carry on listening.

I shut the thought in a drawer …

really? all the wink wink at least it's rounded edges and shit that Paul was coming out with?

a normal reaction would be "at least a ring is small, and will pass easily" not all that bollocks he came out with in a stupid attempt by the SW to throw us off the scent.

More and more what they are throwing me off is listening to the programme.

muddyford · 05/02/2026 13:53

Paul always sounds sleazy to me, so the innuendo was par for his coarse course.
