Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

🔮 It’s a little too earth shattering to contemplate, but I fell asleep imagining how things might be if, after years of harmoniously running Brookfield together, the mature Pip and Stella split up. Cease to be a couple, but still have to manage the farm as a team …

But the BBC will have killed the show long before then.

ExitPursuedByABare · 07/08/2025 10:50

@Trivium4all The Liz Truss Dead Ringers is my current earworm.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 07/08/2025 11:20

It means that within the storylines the characters are going through, there are also discussions about wider farming issues: Till or no-till? Farming for food production or purely environmental gain? How to diversify and make a success of it?

From the BBC article.

Hmm Odd way round; surely it’s the wider farming issues that should shape characters’ personal storylines?

Bruisername · 07/08/2025 11:23

Do we really hear much of that anymore?

if this whole Justin sl is supposed to be a ‘discussion’ it’s a very heavy handed and poorly developed one

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 07/08/2025 12:58

Radio 1 Newsbeat has just aired a few minutes on the pressures of farming, and the effect on mental health.

So maybe that’s the direction Ben is headed in?

I'm not quite sure what triggered the BBC to do this article

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c987l0d38xxo.amp

how the archers reflects real farming

O rlly

it's a pity they didn't formulate that as a question, so we could all apply Bettridge's Law and answer with an emphatic "NO!"

Obviously Will is going to come unstuck with his brilliant plan. Has he never heard of midweek weddings? LL might be popular but is hardly going to be booked sold every day of the week for the next few years.

Well, let's hope Lily is actually stuck there, then, and can keep mysteriously filling up each and every free slot that appears.

JoelenesParrot · 07/08/2025 14:37

Is it too bleugh for Stella to have an affair with Ruth? They are far better suited than Stella and stupid Pip. I really don’t think Stella should be doing the harvest without Brian’s agreement though. His land, his call I’m afraid.

ExitPursuedByABare · 07/08/2025 15:46

Is it his land or is it BL’s land?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/08/2025 15:57

Which land? The tract with the wheat? BL's land.

Brefugee · 07/08/2025 16:43

i don't think Brian has any (or much?) land now does he?

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 07/08/2025 16:55

How d’you mean, @Brefugee? He owns an entire farm. BL hasn’t taken over Home Farm’s land.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/08/2025 17:40

Brefugee · 07/08/2025 16:43

Only about 1,500 acres. More than BL owns in Ambridge, I think.

1500 acres is quite a lot of land.

Yes, it is, isn't it.

Lalgarh · 07/08/2025 19:10

MAKES GOOD HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS UNDER KIER STALIN !

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 07/08/2025 19:20

So that’s how the wedding will be delayed - a disaster with Amber’s planned Turkey teeth, or duck pout?!

DeanElderberry · 07/08/2025 21:06

I'm looking forward to a dental disaster, I hope they don't let us down.

echt · 07/08/2025 22:11

I'm hoping she'll have her head sawn off.

Taking the morning off work to wish someone happy birthday? I bet Amber has birthday weeks and had the day off school too.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 07/08/2025 23:09

Please make Amber go away.

Mumblechum0 · 08/08/2025 01:48

Does anyone really trill in that annoying voice in real life? And what a pass agg gift for Emma. She’d going to have the DIL from hell.

i hope she annoys Oliver and he chucks her out.

JoelenesParrot · 08/08/2025 06:10

I wondered if Amber had been given the voucher free in her influencer capacity and just passed it on. I didn’t like how she called Emma, her future mother-in-law ‘silly’. That really grated. Her sing-song delivery is very strange- surprised the producers think that’s ok.

I loved Susan’s analysis of magazine delivery mix-ups, however, and the plan in place to safeguard future deliveries using Jim’s bureau is glorious. What could possibly go wrong? More of this and less of stupid SLs like Markey please.

muddyford · 08/08/2025 06:22

I'm hoping that Amber finds out that Rochelle is a semi-criminal, and the two of them ride off, on matching beavers, into the sunset to annoy each other for eternity with their infuriating voices.
