Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

I can sort of understand that Rosie might want to talk to Toby, for the purpose of manipulation, but who in his right mind would want to talk to her?

Me. I'm in Melbourne and it's the same as usual bar an Australian ad at the top and the bit that shows how many minutes had been used is white, not red. I listen on my laptop after the UK broadcast.

I suspect it's listening live that's the issue.

Sounds stopped working today for me. Tried listening on the BBC app which worked for 4 minutes and stopped. Tried again and it worked for a couple of minutes and stopped again. Listened on Spotify with no issues.

Although I should add that really 4 minutes was long enough of The Birthday Fun(?).

DeanElderberry · 25/07/2025 08:09

I'd been assuming all these scenes in the sauna involved people being naked. It was not a pretty listen. Otoh if they were clothed, the next few hours were not a pretty smell.

Do the SWs think none of us bring imagination to our Archers experience?

LaMarschallin · 25/07/2025 08:19

I don't know how many people the sauna would comfortably fit but even if people really did want to use it, which I find unlikely for all the reasons given by PPs, how many really could?
Most of the public ones I've been in would take 6-8; any more would be getting a bit uncomfortably close.
And it's not a quick experience for someone who actually enjoys it, so those 6-8 people would probably want to to stay in 30 mins or so?
If the SWs wanted a novelty at the party and a reason for people to strip off (to swimmers, at least) a hot tub would make more sense imo.

Between the cost of hire, damage deposit and possible travelling charges that might have set Jazzer back about £1,000.

FizzingAda · 25/07/2025 09:27

I had to bleach my brain at the image of Martin Gibson removing his flowery shirt etc and getting in the sauna in the buff 🤮

Sidebeforeself · 25/07/2025 12:05

As I have said about a million times on here Im not listening at the moment but judging by what you lot are talking about thank God Im not!!

CrashThere · 25/07/2025 12:56

@FizzingAda ,I think Miles Cholmondley-Warner looks quite nice

TheUsualChaos · 25/07/2025 13:40

Why have they made Martyn so grim? Have we not suffered enough?!!

I'd like Toby to come back to Ambridge more, at least he has a bit of personality and feels like a believable character. Rex seems to have disappeared again, pining for Rochelle?

TheUsualChaos · 25/07/2025 13:42

The party was beyond bizarre and I thought T and J are always a bit broke? How are they throwing a big bash with a cocktail bar and a sauna?

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 25/07/2025 19:20

That was awful tonight in the sense that what is happening to Kenton and Jolene is genuinely upsetting.

And awful in the sense that I cannot bear hearing anything more from Amber.

Gonners · 25/07/2025 19:26

My only concern is that Kenton and Jolene should rehome the cat.

DeanElderberry · 25/07/2025 19:47

The cat was sufficiently realistic that I had to explain the concept of cats being actors to Oscar. I don't think he approved.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/07/2025 19:52

Very vocal, the cats in TA. The one that is living here never says anything, though she chatters her teeth at the pigeons on the roof.

muddyford · 25/07/2025 19:55

I get the impression that Mia and Amber are the same person, only Mia has a regional accent (where from I wouldn't hazard a guess). And isn't she George's step-sister?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/07/2025 20:03

They were brought up in the same house so she probably feels sister-like about him. But yes, she's no blood relation to him: her parents were Nic and Andrew, his were Emma and Will.

Gonners · 25/07/2025 20:07

Yes, Mia has the good fortune to have a father living elsewhere - I think her brother (Jake???) moved to Ambridge when their mother unaccountably married Will, but had the sense to move back to wherever they came from to live with his father. Now that she and Brad are no longer together, her only tie to Ambridge is poor-little-mite Poppy.

I think so. Poppy is George's half sister with Will and Kiera is his half sister with Emma. Mia isn't a Grundy.

Gonners · 25/07/2025 20:28

I see from an old Radio Times article online that in August 2023 Molly Pipe was 25 years old. So she must now be at least 26 if not 27. Based on her voice in TA, she sounds about 12.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 25/07/2025 20:42

Thanks for that, @CrashThere. This article about her is four years old, but informative nonetheless:

CrashThere · 25/07/2025 20:52

Thanks @TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden , I read that and should have linked it.

Yes my cat only meows when I'm a bit late feeding him and when he knocks on his cat flap and I open the door for his majesty to come in, then he has a go at me for keeping him waiting.
Why is Mia and Chelsea so egar to be Amber's best buddy. Who gives a flying parsnip about Amber or even shitty little George.
Feel sorry for Jolene in all this but not so much Kenton, don't know why.

BeatriceBatchelor · 26/07/2025 06:26

The Kenton SL is so depressing. I hate decent people being intimidated by scum. I don't know why the the SW think this will appeal to TA listeners. Or attract new ones.

stilldumdedumming · 26/07/2025 07:20

3 things.
I currently have a prison love/ intimidation SL running in my own life (not me but a dc). It is shit and dc is delusional. But I must respect his parenting choices apparently- unborn baby. Needless to say no idea whether it is dc’s as there are many possible fathers. But he ‘knows’ it is because she says so! Honestly I could give EE a run for its money let alone TA.

Do we remember the origin of the Marky SL? The obsessed Jolene fan?

Does The Bull have a thatched roof?!
