Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

I don't honestly understand George's inconsistencies. When he pleaded guilty, he fully acknowledged that he was guilty and deserved what was coming, and from time to time he still acknowledges that. Yet he's clearly allowed Amber to think he's a wronged innocent despite, presumably, being aware that she could discover the truth at any time. Is this just down to different SWs, or what?

I agree. The character is extremely well acted, but so inconsistent that it just makes you think the scriptwriters haven’t decided what to do with the story. I find his storylines quite stressful for that reason.

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 20/07/2025 22:17

I was cheering Neil on as he told Amber all about how manipulative his grandson is…..right up to the point when he said ‘that’s what George Grundy does’ which really caught me off guard! I can’t imagine ever referring to any member of my immediate family by his full name like that so it sounded odd - or is that supposed to show Neil trying to distance himself from George despite the family connection, contrasting with Susan’s desperate desire for them to reconnect as a family? Clever script writing for a change? Or am I being too generous! 🤣🤣

Listening from overseas the TA services was unaltered, but then I listen to the podcast a few hours after it's been transmiitted live. I might have to grapple withe new changes when it's daylight savings and lighter mornings to get me out of bed betimes. Hang on, the changes might start on Monday 21st UK time.

We'll see.

I imagine Stella was glad of the moped interruption to avoid having to respond to the idea of Fat Rosie calling her Mum

BeatriceBatchelor · 21/07/2025 04:22

They are doing a good job of subtly letting us know that Rosie is a Right Little Madam enabled by Pip and Stella is not keen on being stepmum to her.

Birthday week?

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 21/07/2025 07:38

Birthday week. I mean … What the hell is Pip doing? That child will have three weddings on three different continents and S&B will be inundated with panicked guests desperately trying to navigate the stringently restrictive and complicated dress code.

I was disinclined to believe Rosie had asked to call Stella ‘Mum’ - given that Stella doesn’t live with them and doesn’t appear to perform any parental role. Is it really just for school coolth?

But why doesn’t Stella say something?

Gonners · 21/07/2025 07:54

Why didn't Stella just say "No" to the ludicrous "Mum" suggestion? Indeed, why does nobody in Ambridge ever just say a simple, straightforward "No" to anything? It saves so much time!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/07/2025 07:57

Agreed about Rosie. Nasty little thug from the sound of it.

Is Stella going to run away? If I were her I would be leaving because of both Rosie/Pip and Justin!

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 21/07/2025 08:17

She surely has to go if Adam is ever to return to Home Farm?

But the SWs don’t understand the story any more so 🤷‍♀️

ExitPursuedByABare · 21/07/2025 08:48

Will Ed’s drone practice have caught footage of the car park vandals?

ExitPursuedByABare · 21/07/2025 08:48

Will Ed’s drone practice have caught footage of the car park vandals?

Only if Ed remembered to switch the camera on.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 21/07/2025 09:11

Ohh - well spotted!

Brefugee · 21/07/2025 09:39

oh god it is just too much.

Stella needs to get on with it and say "no, i'm not her mum, i am Stella - we can think of a nickname if she prefers" and also "stop indulging her, fgs, what the heck is a 'birthday week' anyway?"

The Kenton actor's delivery is so so so bad i can't listen. This is going to give me 12 minutes extra a day to catch up with 15 years worth of In Our Time, though, so good for that.

EBearhug · 21/07/2025 12:28

I had friends who wanted their kids to call me Aunty Emma. I said just Emma was fine, I preferred it. They were really upset, and weren't happy that I had different preferences. Calling me Aunty was all about respect. From my point of view, calling me according to my preferences was about respect...

Anyway, Pip is going to be like that, and Stella's preferences around Rosie, and her thoughts that sometimes Rosie needs to think of others, be told no, etc, will not be listened to. I do not understand what Stella sees in Pip.

Brefugee · 21/07/2025 13:15

if i were Stella "ok then, she can call me mum and I'll call her Fat Rosie"

Sidebeforeself · 21/07/2025 13:38

Brefugee · 21/07/2025 13:15

if i were Stella "ok then, she can call me mum and I'll call her Fat Rosie"

😂

Bruisername · 21/07/2025 15:37

If she wasn’t in a same sex relationship would she be demanding her partner be called Dad?

I find it odd because mums tend to gatekeep the term and she’s only been with Stella a short time and they don’t even live together. How many mums is she expecting Rosie to have?

Gonners · 21/07/2025 17:14

What does Rosie call Pip? Mummy?

BeatriceBatchelor · 21/07/2025 18:26

I do not understand what Stella sees in Pip

I think Pip is much keener on Stella.

Gonners · 21/07/2025 18:54

Access to the Brokefailed Billions and all the free milk she can drink?

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/07/2025 19:14

Stella will get a dog and Rosie will be scared of it (despite living on a farm) and Stella will choose the dog.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/07/2025 19:18

We can hope.

RegimentalSturgeon · 21/07/2025 19:54

Poor bloody hound is more likely to be scared of the fat little thug Rosie.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/07/2025 19:57

RegimentalSturgeon · 21/07/2025 19:54

Poor bloody hound is more likely to be scared of the fat little thug Rosie.

Or that. Yes, but the dog will come between them I'm sure - or why mention it in the same conversation as not wanting to be Rosie's Mum.
