Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

😁She is indeed, in the same way that I shall remain the age I am until next Monday <sob>. I have a childlike need to hang on to my prime-number ages to the bitter end!

hahaha same, but i have a bit longer to wait. :)

Fingers crossed Joy & Mick die in a pub fired.

Tortoise is the arsonist 😈
I presume Tortoise is a tortoiseshell so why not. It's a pet, why not have a bit of fun naming them. I met a cat called Drew Barrymore yesterday.

EmilyDickinson · 17/07/2025 19:13

That conversation between George and Susan made for uncomfortable listening.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 17/07/2025 19:15

George is awful, entitled twat.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 17/07/2025 19:16

Susan should have said no. I'm guessing Neil will be disappointed.

But Amber was gracious.

EmilyDickinson · 17/07/2025 19:17

I love it when you can tell that the continuity announcer has been listening to the Archer’s episode. That “Hmm…” spoke volumes!

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 17/07/2025 19:30

Well there's no way, if my son were in George's position and had done what George had done, would I be handing over rings belonging to my late mother.

I totally agree.
George needs to learn that actions have consequences but his deluded family keep falling over themselves to give him whatever he wants, however badly he behaves. I hate how he twists them all round his finger and they practically grovel to him. I think he's a repulsive character, he uses everyone for his own ends and they just can't see it.

I so wished Susan would say no, I hoped that when she visited Amber she would tell her what George wanted, but then tell Amber that no way would she be giving such a precious thing to someone George has known for 2 minutes.

Gonners · 17/07/2025 19:38

I shall be enormously disappointed in Amber if, by this time next week, she hasn't traded in Susan's mother's ring against something more social-media friendly.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 17/07/2025 19:47

Oh God - that was such sad and depressing listening. Could George be more cruel? And entitled?

It's the groveling which is so awful.

I’ve figured out the foundling sl

ambers dad is Neil’s half brother (younger because Neil’s mum v young when had him)

so George and Amber are related and she’ll end it and George will hate Neil even more

Eastenders enough?

I will be equally enormously disappointed in Susan if she didn't hand over something she won in a funfair when she was 11. I doubt George ever knew what Ivy's ring looked like.

Tracy might have done that. I don't think Susan would have the gumption.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/07/2025 20:25

This stuff about Ivy having got the ring back off Clive somehow is utter guff.

Lowfield, Thursday 10th November, 2011
Misguidedly, Clive shows her her nan's rings, which he claims have been left to him; he is keeping them for Kylie. She interprets this an attempt to buy her back with rings that shouldn't be his anyway. She never wants to see him again. Susan is cross that Clive has upset Kylie and she understands very well how he got round his father to get the rings.

Then the following day
Susan is still annoyed and upset about Clive and his antics with the rings; she will never again believe a word he says.

Doesn't look much like Ivy having got it back, nor yet like Susan having kept it thereafter.

Gonners · 17/07/2025 20:27

It will be great if the ring turns out to be some worthless piece of tat. Given that it must have been bought (or inherited) by Bert Horrobin, I can't see that it would be anything else.

muddyford · 17/07/2025 20:37

I doubt if my late mother's rings are worth a huge amount, but they were hers, worn on her dear hands. If they came from a Christmas cracker they would still have value to me.

Gonners · 17/07/2025 20:58

Yes, @muddyford ... but I don't think Amber would be pleased!

You have to wonder what Amber is after: it can hardly be the Grundy millions, and once he's out of prison where is his value as far as her social media is (the grammar-nazi in me wonders if that should be "are"?) concerned?

EBearhug · 18/07/2025 00:13

Tsk. He's going to be making millions with his willow coffin empire.

MinnieBaldock · 18/07/2025 05:54

So nobody says NO! In TA! Nobody gets a word in edgewise when Lynda is speaking. UGH!
So if Susan has the ring why , if she is giving it away, though I know she dosnt want to, dosnt she give it to Tracy or even Chelsea who have more right to it than that slime bag George and Amber.
I sure Tracey and Neil will be angry with Susan for giving this precious heirloom up., but this is TA so they won't say anything.
Bored with the fete already. It's a fete worse than death. But Oliver has pulled a fete acompli don't know how to spell that or if it means what I think it means!!!

muddyford · 18/07/2025 06:30

George the arch-manipulator was in full flood; telling Susan he was going to work on forgiveness, but the sub-text being it wouldn't happen unless she showed the same by handing over her mother's rings. And Susan was desperate enough to agree. Amber would have more to show on social media if he had carved her one from a chop bone, using the edge of his bedframe.

BeatriceBatchelor · 18/07/2025 07:23

Oh the grovelling! I wish Susan had told George that he was a miserable little scrote before prison who had done a Terrible Thing and should have taken his punishment like a man instead of the entitled little brat he still is. But she and the Grundys treat him like he's been deeply wronged.

And why are we listening to the Maliks instead of established cast members? Fine bringing in newbies but they should be alongside Archers not instead of them. I can see David offering to do the door at The Bull to help out his brother.

And I want more Dane!

JoelenesParrot · 18/07/2025 08:36

I was imagining Ivy’s ring had a tiny shard as a centrepiece so was very surprised that Amber seemed to love it. I was expecting her to go full Meghan Markle and want to redesign the ring immediately. Poor Susan- I suppose giving up the ring shows how desperate she is but she is going to regret it. If she had to hand it over then she should have done it on a ‘sale-or-return’ basis and said if A and G don’t make it up the aisle or they get divorced that she would like it back.

The Lynda/Malik fete subplot couldn’t be any more turgid. All the plumbers I know would have dispatched Lynda’s request he help with the fete in less than 30 seconds.
