Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

I very much enjoyed the introduction of the previously unknown third Kray triplet - Rodney, perhaps? - in his role as chaplain. I suppose after 50-odd years in prison he's too old to work in the kitchen. Do the SWs have something against the church? (If so, this is not a criticism.) But what with Alan, Peggy's dreadful collapsing vicar who was sadly not dead, and now this ...

I did rather like him, though.

Madcats · 15/07/2025 20:37

Me too, Gonners. I’d like them to spend more episodes exploring George’s insecurities.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 15/07/2025 20:48

Spin-off series?

Spin-off series?

They could call it "Two Dads George".

The Maliks are very boring. I had to abandon ship half-way through last night. Even Azra saying no to the Snell didn’t ring true as we know she will eventually be recruited and end up as the fete dogsbody in the end. Yawn.

Why would Lynda need another fete dogsbody?

The trouble is that Neil was born in 1957, but Neil's actor, Brian Hewlett, was born in 1939 and, at 86, might have reached the age at which he wants to retire.

They could simply recast him, as they've done with people like Emma, Tony and Robert.

Sidebeforeself · 16/07/2025 07:31

Tony, Robert and Neil all sound very similar to me.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/07/2025 07:45

Neil sounds very distinctive to me. Tony and Robert have posher accents. I'd hate for Neil to be re-cast , although I suppose I'd get used to it. Sad If Neil is killed off instead, Susan as grieving widow would be tough, but Charlotte Martin is a very good actor, so could do it plausibly. It would be a big shake up in the Carter/Grundy clan.

Remind me - has Tracy taken Jazzer’s surname - McCreary - or is she still Tracy Horrobin? (Maybe I missed a bit and he’s now Jazzer Horrobin?)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/07/2025 10:16

Horrobin-McCreary has a nice ring to it!

Born 10/10/1963, so she's sixty-two.

61, surely?

muddyford · 16/07/2025 19:49

Another load of Coddswallop. And I thought bouncers were licenced, not some village idiot deciding to dress up.

DeanElderberry · 16/07/2025 20:05

Will Mick charge into Marky and his thugs, convinced his velcro'd on epaulets give him superpowers? Will Joy try to rescue him?

Gonners · 16/07/2025 20:16

Brefugee · 16/07/2025 12:35

61, surely?

😁She is indeed, in the same way that I shall remain the age I am until next Monday <sob>. I have a childlike need to hang on to my prime-number ages to the bitter end!

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 16/07/2025 20:19

I did once again begin to hope Mick has been invented to be wiped out. But it would be a long game for someone who doesn’t matter to anyone who matters in Ambridge.

Will Mick charge into Marky and his thugs, convinced his velcro'd on epaulets give him superpowers? Will Joy try to rescue him?

I don't quite understand why someone who was going to be in the pub anyway, and who will be wearing his usual clothes, is going to be called a bouncer. Surely Mick would wade in if there were trouble whether he was wearing epaulets or not?

Bruisername · 16/07/2025 20:41

Promise me that this isn’t the sw setting joy and mick up to be the new publicans

CrashThere · 16/07/2025 20:54

They'll be running Crassdoors, the motel near the charging station.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 16/07/2025 20:54

May I just say I loathe Snell and Jazzer?

The way Snell talked about the other members of the fete committee was appalling.

So far as Jazzer, he's just appalling. Full stop. Tracy is (just about) bearable on her own

Hercisback1 · 16/07/2025 21:11

Don't bouncers need a lisence? Another nonsense story.

They do. Mick might hold one because of the Grey Gables job, but whether it can be used at another establishment, I don't know.

I know you mostly hate Mick but he's not actually an idiot; he does the security at GG, he roadied for years and apparently knows a professional bouncer. I thought the conversation with Kenton was really badly written and implausible.

Check security staff have a licence to work

Check SIA licences for security staff such as door supervisors, security guards, CCTV operators and close protection operatives.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 16/07/2025 21:42

Can't edit; if Mick has a licence for his GG job he can work at The Bull but Kenton should have checked.

Hercisback1 · 16/07/2025 22:07

Mick is an idiot with the way he acted in the pub though, frisking Jazzer was a total overreaction.

Oh yes, that was idiotic, it wasn't plausible however.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - title suggestion for next thread
