Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Harrison to hasten home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to John Donne for the title inspiration. The funeral of the century beckons. How much of it do we think we will hear? Kate confirmed tonight that Shula, Debbie, Noli and Sipho are all coming. If we hear one peep from any of them I'll be amazed. Bets on Hazel turning up?

Over to you!

I have completely dropped the ball I know, but have we found out the full details of Peggy’s will yet?

If Jacob is supposed to be ASD he could very reasonably say that holidays with any other people are major stress and he'd like to be left alone to enjoy himself in his own way thank you.

I think they started off hinting that Jakob was ASD but, in true TA style, the SL appear to have forgotten.

I would hate to holiday with anyone other than DH and DC. I'm not ASD but am a miserable, anti social bugger.

No. It's a huge disappointment. All we know is that her blood relatives were contacted ludicrously soon after her death to let them know that they were getting a small sum each. We then found out that specific sums have been left to fund an artwork at the Rewilding project and a family holiday, but we don't know how much. We've also been told that money has been left to a charity that supports people with Alzheimer's and their carers, but guess what, we don't know how much. Nobody in the family is kicking off about any of this or evincing even the slightest curiosity about how much money Peggy left and where it's gone. All very unrealistic indeed. I have to hope there may be more to come. [Pollyanna mode: ON]

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g This has surely got to be worked out at some point; one of the family being favoured but keeping quiet, a dodgy solicitor? It’s annoying me because I want to know. I am enjoying Brian and Miranda wrangling with one another though I agree her voice is ridiculous!

Being fair, I think Tom may have had a mutter about this, but it wasn't emphatic, and I think it would have been.

Likewise, I think Kate was reported as having said it must be a mistake when she got the text telling her the small amount she'd been left.

Why is Miranda's voice ridiculous? She just sounds posh to me.

Kate's posh girl voice is ridiculous. I don't know how Jakob can bear it.

Kate frequently sounds like a duck.

Learnt a new word tonight.. evincing! Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g !

Is that a spellcheck error?

Joy saves the day - again. The sw are really taking the piss out of us now.

is village cricket really so popular that everyone turns out? Lynda is deeply irritating - I’m surprised anyone wants to be in her team at all. Also surprised they didn’t get Joy batting and scoring a century

sad to hear Harrison back tbh. Thought we’d got rid of him. Hoping that was their attempt at a goodbye

And quelle surprise, they won.

overall a rubbish episode. Only upside was Will tbh

Cold Yorkshire puddings filled with chutney...can't say I'd rave about that.

I love Yorkshire puddings hot out of the oven with beef and gravy, I love toad in the hole hot out of the oven with onion gravy, but cold flabby Yorkshire puddings with random fillings?

Apart from everything else, cooking a few dozen more scones (some sweet, some with cheese) would take exactly the same length of time, so why oh why oh why?

MissMarplesNiece · 22/06/2025 20:56

Cold Yorkshire pudding filled with chutney sounds revolting.

What's wrong with a selection of sandwiches and some sausage rolls etc? I'm sure there's a reason why these "traditional" buffet tea foods have persisted - they're relatively fool proof & easy to prepare when mass catering, most people like them, they're easy/unmessy to eat with no worries about dropping chutney all down your cricket whites.

Ulelia · 22/06/2025 21:22

Wow. I don't usually get all the joy hate on this thread, but today felt like they'd read it and decided to teach us a lesson. Mostly Joy and Harrison, with Joy saving the day AGAIN, Lynda being her most annoying self, and only a minute of Will to balance it all out.

(Disclaimer - i love Lynda a lot of time, particularly with Robert and at Christmas, but when she's running the cricket team she too much, even for me).

Ulelia · 22/06/2025 21:23

Also, Kenton has worked in hospitality at the Bull and Jacks(?) for about 25 years, why would he have had no idea of how many pies to make? Stupid story.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/06/2025 21:28

It may sound odd, but it appears to be an established trend.

https://thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/recipes/all/prue-leith-mini-yorkshire-puddings/

This recipe is for eating cold but others I've seen on a quick Google are served warm or hot. That would work better for cheese and chutney, I feel.

DeanElderberry · 22/06/2025 21:30

I never did like Prue Leith or any of her works and pomps.

40 minutes available? For the love of God make scones. (Pronounced scones.)

BeatriceBatchelor · 23/06/2025 00:14

"Thank heavens you're here, Joy, that's all I can say"

And so say none of us.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/06/2025 05:56

They're toying with us now! Perhaps she said she'd work for nothing.

As children visiting grandparents on Sundays, after a splendid roast at lunchtime, our treat at teatime was eating cold Yorkshire pudding with raspberry jam. Delicious with either the crispy, puffy outer part or the softer, squidgy centre.

Godesstobe · 23/06/2025 08:18

I have always liked Lynda as a character but the SWs have now turned her into a grotesque and unbelievable caricature. There is no light and shade in the way she is written at the moment and TA is poorer as a result.

Godesstobe · 23/06/2025 08:37

I can only assume there is an in joke among the SWs to shoehorn Joy into as many scenarios as possible.

I am dreading Rochelle's return. Do we know when her trial is going to take place? Presumably unrealistically quickly and then she will be unloosed on TA - and poor, stupid Rex - all over again.
