Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd swipe right on Dane, the new Grey Gables manager, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radioaddicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radioaddicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @WitcheryDivine for the title inspiration. Over to you!

Crispin is probably from the branch of the CofE that "split" when women started getting ordained (Peggy had an issue with Janet for a while). I don't know whether they still do the occasional Latin mass on a Sunday, but the 'vicars' are still referred to as Fathers X and Y at one of our many local churches.

The scriptwriter this week (Keri) became a (Humanist) funeral celebrant about 5 years ago so I wouldn't be at all surprised if we discover that Peggy wanted a wicker coffin.

Nevertheless, and I do appreciate that he is a farmer, but Tony is in his mid-seventies so I doubt that any sane funeral director would let him help carry a coffin (or a young 14 year old who has probably just started his growth spurt).

Something feels very "off" about the plotline this week. I would expect Kate to be suspicious (or did she throw a massive sulk when Peggy announced that she was going into The Laurels?). None of the family seem particularly bothered by either Arthur or Crispin.

I wonder whether Debbie will feature in the funeral episode (they might have popped her into a studio for a few soundbites whilst she was recording King Lear)? I do hope that they manage to find a way for her to come back too Ambridge.

I really enjoyed that episode. I was cringing so hard through the Church scenes and Henry made me cry. (Disclaimer - I’m still recovering from my hideous accident last December so my emotions are all over the place).

It feels so odd doesn't it?!

I didn't like Kate's comment about the window. Poor Alan.

That aside, it was a good episode. Henry seems so grown up, kind of refreshing to have a teen boy with so much empathy. I suppose it could have gone either way for him.

Crispin's threat to thump Alan seemed weird as well as nasty.

I do hope he misinterprets Kate's offer of a massage.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 10/06/2025 19:11

Is he dead?

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/06/2025 19:13

Well I wasn't expecting that!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 10/06/2025 19:13

Yup!!!!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 10/06/2025 19:16

muddyford · 10/06/2025 19:52

Where's the new thread? Shame about Crispin's resurrection.
