Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to have a moribund camper van parked indefinitely outside your home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Crikey, you lot were suddenly very talkative! I haven't heard tonight's episode yet. Sounds like a great treat in store. Hmm

Oh there's a real treat in store for you !

TheSilkWorm · 24/11/2024 20:24

Jumping in! Thanks for the thread.

Bankholidayhelp · 24/11/2024 20:29

On the last thread some mentioned the Americans maybe staying at Greygables - I think it's full of accountants and lawyers for the conference that led to Mick being evicted.

Gonners · 24/11/2024 20:30

Whew! Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - the last thread went a bit off-piste towards the end and I don't think we realised The End Was Nigh. Sorry.

I enjoyed tonight's episode, purely because it was a welcome relief from the usual. And somehow, the relationship between Jakob and Kate has made me rather like Previously Ghastly Kate.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/11/2024 20:34

No worries, @RegimentalSturgeon was on the case too. The title here was a bit rushed as I had been wondering how to phrase it, but it will have to do.

Checking in so I can find this thread in "Notifications" and not have to search the site for it....

I have nothing positive to say about tonight's episode, so I won''t say it.

FiveShelties · 24/11/2024 20:49

Well, that was bad, really really bad.

I don't really know why I carry on listening, I must be an eternal optimist.

Fink · 24/11/2024 20:56

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

The least said about tonight's episode the better. Especially given quite how long the opening scene lasted without any TA characters.

waterbottle1234 · 24/11/2024 20:57

What the hell was that all about tonight?

Fink · 24/11/2024 21:01

Oh, I have thought of one (small) positive: Jakob's line about Goldilocks was quite funny.

echt · 24/11/2024 21:04

Thanks for the thread, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g.

Now what the bloody hell was that all about?

If it wasn't for the Americans being set up as proper jet-lagged fuss budgets - the man at least - I was thinking it might presage one of those frightful suspense horror films with a reverse home invasions. Or a version of Royston Vasey - you're not local are you?

And Jakob was spot on. They would not be insured for anything the Yanks made off with.

DeanElderberry · 24/11/2024 21:04

Jakob's Goldilocks line was spot on. Why leave the bears in control of the cottage? Also his house must be terrifyingly clean and tidy to have convinced the Americans that it was a bona fide holiday let.

RegimentalSturgeon · 24/11/2024 21:07

Why would anyone fly from the US to spend a week in a a self-catering let in acdead-and-alive hole like Ambridge. In November. Weirdos.

Fink · 24/11/2024 21:08

Also his house must be terrifyingly clean and tidy to have convinced the Americans that it was a bona fide holiday let.

That I find quite easy to believe. There have been previous conversations between him and Kate about how he can't stand Kate's messiness.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 24/11/2024 21:12

I loved that Jakob’s cottage was “a bit spartan” even by holiday cottage standards.

Fink · 24/11/2024 21:15

The holiday scene between Jakob and Kate was a bit odd: I didn't have Kate down as an Algarve sun seeker, I thought she'd go for something a bit more eco-conscious, or possibly visit her children once in a while! And why would Jakob choose Finland over Sweden? I'm sure Finland is very nice, but everything he mentioned is also available in Sweden, with the advantage that he's half-Swedish and speaks Swedish.

RegimentalSturgeon · 24/11/2024 21:17

I didn't have Kate down as an Algarve sun seeker,

Not now she no longer has small children, anyway….

TribulationPeriwinkle · 24/11/2024 21:17

I’m not sure the Algarve in January will be the sizzle-fest Kate is picturing.

I suppose being half Swedish, Sweden might not feel like a holiday so much?

WhitbyBee · 24/11/2024 21:24

Surprised that they instantly knew it was nut roast
I would have suggested meatloaf would have been the 1st assumption

ThisGreatHazelKoala · 24/11/2024 21:24

There are historic links between Finland and Sweden. Some family connections too.

Iknownothing · 24/11/2024 21:40

It must be scam week- I feel I've been duped into thinking I was listening to the Archers.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 24/11/2024 21:54

I’m probably an outlier but I thought that was quite amusing (apart from the bit at the beginning where I was just confused because I didn’t know who these people were…). I’d still have slung them in a yurt though, I’d have been suspicious that they were thieves or con-artists.

I do love Jakob. And Kate has definitely mellowed, time was she’d have insisted on a holiday that she could have walked to which involved an organic hemp weaving workshop and possibly knitting one’s own lentils. Now she seems to hanker after a week in the Algarve. Won’t someone think of the carbon footprint? 😱

BrightYellowDaffodil · 24/11/2024 21:55

I’d have been pissed off at someone eating my nut roast, mind. I love a nut roast.
