I'm going to miss him. Sound of the 70s has become a weekly fixture for me, usually live. I did try the Rock Show, but couldn't get on with the music. HIs presenting style is just marvellous. Thank goodness Whispering Bob Harris is taking over SOTS. He's good too, and he knows his stuff.

I hope he and Tiggy have a decent amount of time together once he can rest more. He sounds very frail these days.

It's emotional for sure. But I hope he has some time to rest too. I know someone who has been closely involved with one of these last shows. He's been recording from home and is incredibly frail apparently.

5 minute warning till Johnnie’s final show! Looking forward to it.

drivinmecrazy · 27/10/2024 15:06

I'm listening now.
I know there's going to be tears 😞

drivinmecrazy · 27/10/2024 15:07

I'm so glad there's a thread about this.

With all of the cancellation culture and sex scandals it's so nice to
Know they're not all rotten apples

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 27/10/2024 15:07

Listening now, proper end of an era..

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/10/2024 15:14

I'm going to be a soggy mess by 5pm.

I’m a soggy mess at 3.40! So emotional.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/10/2024 15:44

Oh dear, Freebird. I'm off again.

Listening with a glass of Malbec. I love this man. Feeling particularly emotional as I've had a massive bereavement this month, but JW has been such a part of my life.
May he and Tiggy enjoy their champagne

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 27/10/2024 15:54

Ah that's so lovely, what very special memories.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/10/2024 15:55

Lovely story, @Elderflower14. He always makes interviews sound so natural.

Nice tribute from Sir Rod there.

Can barely see through the tears to type. So so sad.

ginasevern · 27/10/2024 16:12

I'm listening now, as I have done where possible since Sounds of the 70's started. I was a teenager in the 70's and Johnnie Walker was a big part of that scene. We were gutted when he quit Radio 1 in '76. I'm crying on and off as I type. We'll miss you Johnnie, you've been a big part of my generation's lives. Sending love to you and Tiggy.

Elderflower14 · 27/10/2024 16:13

I think I've told this story before... As Tiggy is sharing her David Bowie story I'll tell you mine. In 1995 I went to Christies in London to see some Lowrys been sold... After they had been sold people got up and more people sat down. I was looking around the room. A man caught my eye and smiled at me.. I thought he was rather nice... Then I realised he had different colour eyes... I looked again. He smiled again.. It was Mr Bowie... ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ He was most amused when I slid down my chair in shock. I didn't dare get him to sign my programme in case I ended up with an expensive painting... When David died in 2016 Johnnie read my story out..

What a great story and what a pity you didn't get DB's autograph! Johnnie said he's always tried to read every story/request out even if it was handed to him on the back of a fag packet.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 27/10/2024 16:18

I'm listening as I paint my bedroom. Very very emotional. Getting quite choked up.

Have loved cooking along to his show.

anon20 · 27/10/2024 16:54

End of an era indeed. I shall miss his voice on a Sunday afternoon 😔

Houseplanter · 27/10/2024 16:55

What a lovely man, and so brave. I'm not sure how he's holding it together.

The end of another great era.

Thanks Johnnie.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/10/2024 16:56

I'm certainly not holding it together.
