I'm going to miss him. Sound of the 70s has become a weekly fixture for me, usually live. I did try the Rock Show, but couldn't get on with the music. HIs presenting style is just marvellous. Thank goodness Whispering Bob Harris is taking over SOTS. He's good too, and he knows his stuff.

I hope he and Tiggy have a decent amount of time together once he can rest more. He sounds very frail these days.

Oh 😢

veryvanessa · 27/10/2024 16:57

Oh Johnny!

Elderflower14 · 27/10/2024 16:57

No Bruce.... Was certain he would finish with Born To Run... 💙

HannahinHampshire · 27/10/2024 16:59

Amazing Grace. A couple of years ago my Mum died and my brother and I were sitting in her flat debating what music to have at her funeral. Johnnie was on the radio and played Amazing Grace, my brother said ‘that’s the final song.’ I need a gin!

😞

MmeHennyPenny · 27/10/2024 17:00

God Bless you and yours Johnnie!
A perfect ending to your last show.

ginasevern · 27/10/2024 17:02

Dear god, I'm in pieces.

TroysMammy · 27/10/2024 17:04

So sad listening to Amazing Grave because he's not retiring to have a long and enjoyable retirement but because he is ill and doesn't have much time left. However he has had a long and enjoyable career which I'm sure has been the best job he could have ever had.

Beautifully said. Raising a glass to Johnnie now.

I've been in tears the last three shows as he's read out the messages sent in to him.

It's been wonderful, thanks Johnny!

drivinmecrazy · 27/10/2024 17:11

What makes me so sad is that radio2 was the background to my childhood in the 70s and 80s, it was always on the radio in the kitchen.

Don't think there's much left for me with radio 2 now

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/10/2024 17:34

I must admit that my eyes might have leaked a bit.
Amazing Grace - The Scots Dragoon Guards version-also from the 70s - holds special significance for our family. It was playing on Pick of The Pops the day my FIL (himself an accomplished piper) passed away...and like that day I was driving back from the shops.

AuntieMarys · 27/10/2024 17:36

I'm pissed

FranticFrankie · 27/10/2024 17:40

Bless him- loved his show. He’s been around for what seems like forever!
A very happy retirement to him 🥰

He's retired because he's terminally ill

WillowTit · 29/10/2024 18:33

the jeremy vine show with Johnnie Walker and his wife also very emotional.

Lalgarh · 30/10/2024 19:11

He played out with Amazing Grace. I don't normally listen to him (gave up on Radio 2 after Paul O'Grady was ditched, save Sunday Love Songs) , but I had it blaring out over my phone as I did some gardening.

suburburban · 30/10/2024 19:22

I only started listening in lockdown but absolutely loved the show and Johnny

Houseplanter · 31/12/2024 16:13

Sadly it's just been announced he has passed away, just 2 months after retiring.

Sad news

redtrain123 · 31/12/2024 16:17

Just heard on the radio. The news must be hot if the press, not announced elsewhere. Must be a very difficult programme for Bob Harris to do - you can the emotion in his voice.

Darkerdreamingdescribe · 31/12/2024 16:20

What an amazing life. He was able to consistently do the work he loved, right up to weeks before his death.

Jumell · 31/12/2024 16:23

Heard him earlier this year do an excellent jointly presented Radio 2 show with Tony Blackburn

DreamW3aver · 31/12/2024 16:23

I was just thinking about him the other day and how he'd lived longer than he'd expected

Sad news

suburburban · 31/12/2024 17:50

Oh no😓

almondfinger · 31/12/2024 17:51
