Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you believe Rochelle exists, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5071889-the-archers-spoilers-thread-9-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

This thread may well fill up as fast as the last one, so let's just get stuck in!

Are you on the right thread?

Wasn’t that a reaction to Sturgeon’s self-assessment?

I said I wouldn't comment on Harrison, but the more I think about it, the more annoyed I am.

I am increasingly worried that he is going to be overtly anti-abortion sometime soon, with all his talk of wanting Alice prosecuted for the murder of his child. This annoys me because, speaking as a prolifer, we get bad enough press as it is; I could do without the new mouthpiece of the fictional prolife movement (the drama is fictional, not the movement) being a misogynist, dim-witted, selfish arsehole.

I wonder how he will cope if/when Fallon reaches the end of her tether and says she wouldn’t have had it anyway. Is he going to accuse her of murdering their child?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 22/05/2024 21:16

What a poisonous brat Princess Lily is. Although well done Fallon for managing to convey via the medium of radio how she was exercising considerable effort to avoid shovung the silly brat's face into the gluten free dessert.

That was what I was wondering, yes. It sounded from tonight that that was the direction of travel, if he's even able to string a coherent sentence together by that point. He's getting more and more divorced from reality.

YellowHairband · 22/05/2024 21:25

Harrison is absolutely going off the deep end. And being very annoying while he does it.

But I don't understand Fallon's surprise about him wanting to write an impact statement. Has she been paying no attention at all? I mean, given his views on the whole situation, obviously he is going to want to write one.

Harrison isn't a victim. Why would Fallon expect him to write a victim statement.

Gonners · 22/05/2024 21:29

Harrison writing an "impact statement" is just fine, as long as Fallon gets to write one too, saying that although at the time it was a terrifying experience, she has suffered no long-term mental or physical effects.

Sorry all, should not have posted in haste before listening to the episode or catching up with the thread or while preoccupied by the Masterchef final and the election news! Now see I totally missed the context to what @newtlover had posted. Apols all round.

Anyway, new thread. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5080745-archers-thread-166-choppy-waters-in-ambridge-look-out-for-the-red-flags-and-discuss-the-archers-here

@Loveheartsandlockets I completely disagree. And I know quite a bit about controlling men....

(You're entitled to your view though, of course!)

JumpedTheShark · 24/05/2024 19:19

FFS. Why am I listening t this sh**e. I do not want to hear about the non-baby ever again.

JumpedTheShark · 25/05/2024 13:42

@Gruffallowhydidntyouknow, sorry for your loss.
If my post seems insensitive, it's that Fallon and Harrison's pregnancy was not, on Fallon's part anyway, a longed for one, and was unlikely to have continued.
Hope you are OK.

madroid · 25/05/2024 17:28

I actually thought yesterday/today's episode with both Fallon and Harrison imploding was quite convincing at the the end. Both knew they needed to talk but were talking at cross purposes/talking at each other to the point where they could no longer cope with the lack of understanding and empathy from their partner who is supposed to love and support them.

Why was Elizabeth bothered about Joy's birthday? And how has she got time to be invested in it? Did I miss something?

BOOP for the dinner with Vince and Freddie though - nicely done I thought.

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 25/05/2024 20:47

I have just listened to the Fallon/Harrison scene and thought it was really well written and acted. Well done Fallon for sticking to her guns.

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 25/05/2024 20:50

I got the sense that Elizabeth was just the convenient available actor to act as a vehicle for moving the Joy and Rochelle storyline forward. Perhaps the link is Joy being so good with Ben, is it possible that she got to know all the Archer family well at that point, especially the aunt with her own history of mental illness? I can’t think of any link between Joy and Lower Loxley, or the twins.
