Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you believe Rochelle exists, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5071889-the-archers-spoilers-thread-9-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

This thread may well fill up as fast as the last one, so let's just get stuck in!

speaking of characters who are sorely missed

In ‘proper’ TA no week like this could have taken place without the grown ups sweeping in from Brookfield to spread order and calm and establish the truth. The First Family silence is the most shocking thing about this whole story.

Edited

With Jenny gone, it's harder to tie the Aldridges to the Archers, but both Tony and Lillian could have been interesting this week. And I'm sure Peggy and Jill would have had something to say.

It's notable, in fact, that Alice is the only part-Archer to be centrally involved in all this. A Grundy, an ex-Archer spouse, and then a load of 'random' villagers who have no core ties to the Archer family.

TottersBlanklyOnTheEdge · 09/05/2024 21:58

A Grundy, an ex-Archer spouse and the stepdaughter of a Brookfield Archer.

But not a word from the mother ship.

That's true, I always forget about Fallon's link to the Archers, but I guess it seems a bit tenuous since she didn't become an Archer stepdaughter until she was already an adult, it's not as though she grew up with Kenton as a stepdad.

Luckily for her she was probably fairly old (IIRC) when she got the homophobic criminal Sid as a stepdad too. She must have been at least late teens by the time they got together?

TottersBlanklyOnTheEdge · 09/05/2024 22:24

Early to mid teens? I seem to recall her mortified complaint to Jolene (when they moved into The Bull) that she could hear her mother and Sid through the wall at night …

For gods sake Alistair, if you’re going to have an affair with a married woman, you need to do better than that! Especially in the face of Paul’s needling ways.

I think George was telling the truth about only having one drink. It had to be something he didn’t like so it could be left in the car! It also explains why he left the party early - he’s definitely the type to feel like he has to be pissed to enjoy himself.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 09/05/2024 22:49

We only have George's word that his phone is broken. Isn't the location tracking stored in the cloud?

On an Android phone Google maps stores your daily activities to your Google account - assuming that it's set to do so. The phone will upload it to the account and the information can be accessed from any browser by logging into your Google account. If the phone is destroyed or so damaged that it won't upload, the data to that point is still saved in your Google account.

I've no idea if it can be deleted from your Google account as I've never tried to as I find it a very useful source of information for myself if I want to check what I did/ where I've been. I've no idea if Apple has a similar function.

I know Shula is widely disliked on these threads, but I like her.

Me too, @Fink , but then I’m not averse to Helen either which I know marks me out as an oddity in these parts Grin

Hello all
I am a long time member of this thread but havent been here for aaaages (2017 ish) and have name changed.
I have been really behind and caught up last night on all the events...and came straight here to check out all the theories...

WitcheryDivine · 09/05/2024 23:30

Checking in

iratepirate · 10/05/2024 01:55

also checking in and -knew- there was a reason such a meal was made about the purchase of the fruit cider.

Alwaysdieting · 10/05/2024 04:58

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread Gasp.
Paul should have joined the Police what with the 20 questions he is so annoying, Mick was quick jumping in though, seems like everybody condones a bit on the side. Nice one Denise letting Alistair do all the lying, she really dosnt care about him.
Why would Chris not say he will have Martha instead of Alice saying she is not fit to look after her. Would you let a lasp alcoholic look after your 3 year old. What with all the pussy footing around Alice anyway, he dosnt know it wasnt her driving he knew how reckless and a horrible drunk she was. Its only us, dear listeners, that know the truth.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 10/05/2024 06:15

Has the fruit cider been mentioned by someone? Have I missed something?

Alwaysdieting · 10/05/2024 06:18

Alice mentioned it to Chris saying it was found in her car and Chris said it wasnt like her to drink it and she said yes it was, meaning that she would drink anything alcohol.

Darker · 10/05/2024 06:22

I wish Alistair and Denise had thought this through a bit more. Even saying they had gone out for a drink. They are longstanding colleagues after all.

Thanks. I must have blanked out Alice's whining self pity. I don't like Alice. I really don't care if she's been set up for the accident. She's a horrible person.

PoppingTomorrow · 10/05/2024 06:31

Has anyone asked why George was in the car with Alice?

Alwaysdieting · 10/05/2024 06:34

I dont think anybody knows George was in the car with Alice.

DeanElderberry · 10/05/2024 06:36

I was out last night so have only just listened to it. A lot going on there.

I had hoped Denise would catch a chill and shuffle off, but don't like the sound of her throwing up. If you know what I mean. I fear Fallon and the inappropriate doctor was a red herring, and Denise is going to be our surprise pregnancy - I've no idea what age she's supposed to be, but if mid-40s it's possible. Which will startle Paul, since he knows his dad was with him in the Caribbean, and that combined with his eagerness to keep the practice paperwork straight is going to make him feel horribly betrayed by Denise, Alastair AND Mick - I wasn't wild about Mick's readiness to provide collaborative lies,.

Chris will be the one to clear Alice (how? will the blood tests show that she didn't drink all the vodka? Joy will be able to explain the cider, at least) and implicate George, with deepening Grundy / Carter angst..

Bruisername · 10/05/2024 06:41

Denise can’t be pregnant by Alastair though

iratepirate · 10/05/2024 06:42

No, I don’t think they’ve had chance to consummate their relationship yet..

DeanElderberry · 10/05/2024 07:03

I thought they'd had a moment of ghastliness at the surgery? Don't tell me it's still all lingering glances and sighs.

Bruisername · 10/05/2024 07:09

That was just a snog

DeanElderberry · 10/05/2024 07:10

ffs!

DeanElderberry · 10/05/2024 07:11

Though maybe that raises the hope that the river disease will indeed prove fatal. We have been told there's a lot of water pollution, so it would be topical.

RegimentalSturgeon · 10/05/2024 07:12

will the blood tests show that she didn't drink all the vodka?

What good would that do? Probably better if her BAC is in the unconsciousness zone than just ‘normal’ raging pissed. (‘Better’ from the point of view of wanting George up to his neck in shit, that is)

Paul needs holding under the Am until the bubbles stop.
