Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you believe Rochelle exists, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5071889-the-archers-spoilers-thread-9-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

This thread may well fill up as fast as the last one, so let's just get stuck in!

The boat painting was bloody weird. Thought the same about the logistics of it. And they just so happened to have the right kind of paint to hand as well?

Alistair and Denise just need to tell Paul now and let him deal with it. They are acting like he's about 12.

I think there was a line about there being some paint leftover from when it was last painted.

BeatriceBatchelor · 14/05/2024 23:28

Wish Alistair would snap and tell Paul to STF up.

Do we reckon John's homemade soup is going to help rekindle the spark between him and Denise? I bloody hope do.

Alwaysdieting · 15/05/2024 04:40

Yes STF up Paul for flip sake on and on, I would have lost my temper with him by now. I hope Denise does fall back in love with John and this sillyness between her and Alistair stops. I hope she goes to work at another vets like last time and Alistair meets a nice lady vet to fall for.
No words for Alice, she just seems very selfish and self centered but I expect Alcoholics are like that.

RegimentalSturgeon · 15/05/2024 05:12

Do we reckon John's homemade soup is going to help rekindle the spark between him and Denise?

If Denise still has the raging squirts and if John’s chicken soup is heavy on the scotch bonnets, it won’t be so much a spark as a burning ring of fire.

Alwaysdieting · 15/05/2024 05:31

John might be putting a Carolina reaper in too. He might know about her and Alistair( cos everyone else does) and he is keeping her ill with hot peppers cos he hasnt any antifreeze or old fashion fly papers.

Abra1t · 15/05/2024 08:12

I’m wondering whether anyone will find a left-side ear bud or earring (some are designed to have distinct sides) in the passenger footwell of Alice’s car and identify it as Alice’s and wonder how she managed to drop it on that side while sitting in the driver’s seat.

TottersBlanklyOnTheEdge · 15/05/2024 08:27

I imagine we’ve already heard about everything that might constitute persuasive evidence?

Some things might be red herrings but it would be a waste of time for the SWs to have laid the groundwork so (apparently) carefully only to pull something entirely new out of a hat that excludes the knowledge they’ve provided us with.

But I could easily be wrong!

Cantsleepdontsleep · 15/05/2024 09:10

I think paul has a pretty clear idea of what is going on, whether he chooses to believe it or not. All the pedanticness is information gathering. I wonder if there even was a soup…

Cantsleepdontsleep · 15/05/2024 09:11

I mean, obviously there wasn’t a soup, but if there was meant to be one. Becoming too invested (not necessarily in this storyline though…)

I think you will find that the abstract noun is pedantry.

DeanElderberry · 15/05/2024 09:46

Most of me just wants the awful story to be over, but a tiny bit would quite like Alastair to say 'oh shut up Paul, your mother and I were heading off to do SEX which is none of your business so eff off'.

And Paul to challenge Ali to duel to defend his mother's honour. I picture Paul and small and podgy and Alastair as still fairly strong after a lifetime of wrestling large recalcitrant farm beasts.

Ha love it, being pedantic about pedantry :)

DeanElderberry · 15/05/2024 09:59

Your mother and were heading off to do SEX and if you keep asking how the sheep comes into it I'll tell you and you really don't want to know

MsCheeryble · 15/05/2024 10:18

Paul is so obsessive about the bloody sheep that I'm wondering whether he didn't work out what his mum and Alistair were doing long ago and is having fun watching Alistair squirm.

Bruisername · 15/05/2024 10:22

It’s so daft. The correct answer for Alastair was to say that when they turned up the sheep had gone

Bruisername · 15/05/2024 10:22

It’s also unbelievable that he would have gone to collect Denise (where does she live?) so Paul must know

Godesstobe · 15/05/2024 10:23

I can't believe they didn't have the nous to agree a story beforehand.

WitcheryDivine · 15/05/2024 10:32

I’ve long since given up on keeping up with this thread but just popping in to add to the chorus of people saying shut up Paul. Someone should remind him of when he apologised to Jakob for being annoying and point out he’s doing it again.

howdyho · 15/05/2024 10:33

It's so awkward, lie after lie and didn't even have the sex!

harriethoyle · 15/05/2024 10:41

Hahaha @DeanElderberry

SaffyRosie · 15/05/2024 10:48

I wish someone would ask Alice how she sees her life planning out if she doesn't give up the booze.

And explain to her how he life will be (and death) if she doesn't go back to the support meetings/rehab and get sober. She will probably have a slow, painful and messy death.

TTPD · 15/05/2024 11:17

Bruisername · 15/05/2024 10:22

Paul would have insisted on arranging a search party to go and find it

Godesstobe · 15/05/2024 11:22

I think that's the point of the last episode. She does realise that she will end up losing everything, including her life, if she carries on drinking but she feels that is what she deserves for causing the crash and "kil@BerylBillings

Paul’s disingenuous (or genuinely thick) “But I don’t understaaaaaand” is getting right on my wick.

Godesstobe · 15/05/2024 11:25

Sorry - cat jumped up and I accidentally posted half way through😹

Alice blames herself for causing the crash and "killing Fallon's baby". I think we may see a suicide attempt.

I am surprised though that Alice didn't know Fallon did not want children given their close friendship.
