Spoilers thread for The Archers. All Archers listeners are welcome here, whether you post on our main Archers thread or not. There's just one rule: please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers thread.

We usually add the BBC teasers and cast lists for forthcoming episodes as they
become available, plus the Radio Times and Daily Mail previews when possible.
Feel free to add anything else you come across, e.g. cast news, scriptwriter
tweets!

Anyway, I suspect that the army may be rather tired of being regarded as a dustbin for unpleasant people for whom civilian life has no particular use.

It seems that recruitment has been outsourced to Crapita, which gives them less control over the process. And, of course, fewer soldiers - because by the time they've processed the initial applications, any potential recruits the army might actually want have qualified as electricians/plumbers/whatever!

Madcats · 19/05/2024 11:27

They are going to send Roy to Bulgaria(?) to see out his days with Lexi, aren't they.

The end of "The Tuckers", I suppose.

JanglyBeads · 19/05/2024 13:40

I'm u sure as to what's going to happen with Alice - Friday's ep felt like she was going away for a long time but Ruari's house let presumably runs out in July or August.

Daily Mail preview, FWIW. I don't think the barn dance can be at GG.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine May 18th-24th
The barn dance at Grey Gables provides some light relief from the trauma in Ambridge, but Fallon's soon at the end of her tether. Joy faces a shock. and tension mounts at the cricket.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/05/2024 14:42

I suspect this may be the barn dance they spoke of at one point as being something for guests at Grey Gables to go along to. The way that guests at a luxury hotel enjoy slumming and discomfort, I suppose.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/05/2024 16:29

Of course! I'd forgotten that particular bit of idiocy.

Is the barn dance at Brookfield? If the GG guests are super-lucky, they might get to witness a calving emergency, with Dayveed stripped for action, or be asked to watch Rosie do her special performance of whatever utterly enchanting thing (boak) she's doing this week.

Weren't they supposed to be having some kind of special exciting thing in a polytunnel at one stage? I don't think I could have imagined it, my brain isn't that weird.

That was the glamorous opening night I believe.

Edited

So glamorous that it involved pizza, if I recall correctly (though that may have been a fever dream).

DeanElderberry · 19/05/2024 21:02

My concentration must have slipped that day. Can't imagine why.

Yes. From Ian's pizza van.

DeanElderberry · 19/05/2024 21:20

was it on a Wednesday?

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/05/2024 14:48

Neil and Kirsty tonight. I hope we get something pig-farming related.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/05/2024 14:59

DeanElderberry · 19/05/2024 21:20

was it on a Wednesday?

Oliver described the later one, this January after the refurbishing was finished, as "their soft opening next Wednesday"; the one in the poly-tunnel last December (with pizza) was on a Friday.

DeanElderberry · 21/05/2024 17:40

ah - puzzling. I did miss TA on Wednesdays for a while in February and March, but that can't be the explanation. Yet again my concentration must have strayed.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/05/2024 18:10

The "soft opening" on 17th January was mostly about Lynda and Robert staying the night there, and Adil leaving the programme. No actual celebration: they just started letting out the rooms to guests.

The other narrative thread was Emma whinging about the Texels and the land sale and the rain and the world in general, and Clarrie trying to be positive about everything.

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/05/2024 21:03

24/5 Fallon reaches the end of her tether, and there’s a shock for Joy.

Fallon, luv, LTB! Poor Joy.

Is Ben graduating from his nursing course on June 6th?

Isn't this the end of his first year, as he had to restart the course after the breakdown?

TottersBlankly · 23/05/2024 03:51

Good point! I obviously wrote that without thinking. Blush Maybe just celebrating getting to the end of the first year / passing an important first stage? I admit I don’t know how nursing training is carried out these days. And doubt my mother’s reminiscences of the late 50s / early 60s are much use as a reference!

Gosh, was the Ben drama that recent? It seems like aeons ago. There's something very odd about the way Archers time works in my head. 🤔

Madcats · 23/05/2024 09:58

Gonners I suspect that you simply wanted to wipe Ben's time with Sykesie from your memory cells. What was that all about!

WhoppingBigBackside · 23/05/2024 10:21

Fords can be shallow but there are some in tidal estuaries. There used to be one across the River Dee. I can recall some boys drowning decades ago trying to cross it. Apparently IIRC there was only one elderly lady who knew it still alive.
The magic of search engines won't let me find it this morning.

The Am isn't tidal I hear you thinking but that's where we go wrong. The Am can be whatever the SWs decide. i think that it's actually the River Severn in places but just a little brook in others (hence Brookfield)

(Sorry, I know it's a main thread one)

Gonners · 23/05/2024 11:57

I like the idea of them surfing the tidal bore on the Am.

Bruisername · 23/05/2024 12:04

That’s going to be the next GG event for their high end clients - bore watching
