Spoilers thread for The Archers. All Archers listeners are welcome here, whether you post on our main Archers thread or not. There's just one rule: please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers thread.

We usually add the BBC teasers and cast lists for forthcoming episodes as they
become available, plus the Radio Times and Daily Mail previews when possible.
Feel free to add anything else you come across, e.g. cast news, scriptwriter
tweets!

Thanks for the new thread and spoilers @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g .
Thanks for the AATA link,@BoreOfWhabylon . He comes across very well in it.

Who's going to make a horrifying discovery tonight?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/05/2024 16:27

Don't know! Could be David finding that Pip hasn't ordered some vital farm thing, but I doubt it.

Not sure this adds anything, but here it is.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine May 12th-17th
As Ambridge continues to be rocked by last week's events, Tracy looks to unify the village, but Adam is struggling to hold his family together - and might it be too late to save Alice?

Adam is struggling to hold his family together

Does this mean the Aldridges or the Macy-Craigs?

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/05/2024 16:49

Maybe the horrifying discovery is that nobody has done any farming for months.

Too late to save Alice from what:

Death?
Prison?
Something else incredibly minor like a stubbed toe?

TottersBlankly · 12/05/2024 18:41

Surely Xander is old enough to take on a bit of farming now? And to start plotting how to gain his share (or more than his share) of whatever’s left of Home Farm.

Every single Archer-Aldridge descendant must wake up sweating, with the word Ruairi somewhere deep in their nightmares. Grin

@BoreOfWhabylon - Many thanks for that link. That was one of the best All-About-The-Archers interviews I've seen. He pretty much took over, and made me laugh.

I find it hard to forget that O'Connor elected to employ Cartwright to play a policeman in the year during which Cartwright was found guilty of a criminal assault in which he smashed someone's eye-socket. It's hard to like him with that at the back of my mind. And I know I ought not to confuse actor and character, but the creepy stalking of Fallon and refusal to accept her saying she did not want to go out with him made me very edgy about the character as well, right from the start.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/05/2024 20:37

One resident makes a horrifying discovery I was so sure that would be either Alice or Brian at death's door. I hadn't thought of George finding out that Fallon was pregnant. Still, it shows he is not an out and out psychopath.

OP posts:
JanglyBeads · 12/05/2024 21:12

It thought that at first but then I thought is it just that he's terrified of going to prison?

TottersBlankly · 12/05/2024 22:00

No - it’s because Fallon is his weak spot; he seems to genuinely adore her.

Which might force him to confess. Maybe prison is beginning to seem the lesser of two evils. Guilt over Fallon being worse.

JanglyBeads · 12/05/2024 22:06

Possibly yes Totters

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/05/2024 19:44

Do we have proof that George has a driving licence? Him driving the Bridge Farm van is not proof of him having a driving licence or having passed his test.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/05/2024 20:03

I don't think the Bridge Farm Archers would allow him to drive their van if he didn't have a licence and would therefore not be insured in the event of his being in an RTI.

He has also driven Henry at least once, and at Helen's suggestion; I doubt she'd have encouraged him to take Henry to the skating rink with Keira unless she knew he had a full driving licence.

DeanElderberry · 13/05/2024 20:57

In my experience farm youngsters get driving licenses as soon as they can, they are vital tools for most rural employment.

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/05/2024 20:58

I can remember Ben passing his driving test but not George. I can imagine George either failing his test and saying he'd passed or skipping the formality. Tom and Helen might not ask to see his driving licence. They know him and would have seen him driving.
I can think of at least one person who drove on the roads without a full driving licence. If they appear to be competent drivers, you wouldn't question it.

I don't think I've ever been asked by anyone (other than the police) to show my driving licence, despite having driven company vehicles.

I'm trying to think why would George have pulled Alice into the driver's seat but might be barking up the wrong tree.

DeanElderberry · 13/05/2024 21:02

Any employer who needed me to drive as part of my job needed to see my licence at the time I applied for the job.

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/05/2024 21:25

But I'm asking do we know for a fact that George passed his driving test? 'Yes he must have because he gave Henry a lift/drives at Bridge Farm sometimes'. is not proof that he is licenced to drive a car.

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/05/2024 21:54

Back to the spoilers, we have 14.5 Alice presses self destruct, and tensions mount at the vet surgery to look forward to.

I'm trying to think why would George have pulled Alice into the driver's seat but might be barking up the wrong tree.

I assumed it must be so that she would be believed to have been driving and to have caused the crash, rather than him. Simple as that.

Bruisername · 13/05/2024 22:41

I’m assuming self destruct is her getting blotto in front of xander?

TherapistInATabard · 14/05/2024 08:31

Yep, George wasn’t thinking beyond ‘can’t let them think anyone other than Alice was driving’.

oakleaffy · 14/05/2024 22:00

iratepirate · 09/05/2024 21:19

Do we think they actually mean it when they say that Alice self-destructs?!

What’s really sad is that it is mirroring real life for me in a way.
I don’t drink, but found alcohol tins placed in my recycling bin.

Over several weeks
Only an alcoholic would seek to hide empty tins of strong cider in someone else’s recycling bin

Turns out it’s the adult alcoholic relative of a friend who lives locally -

Why dump empties on me??

A cry for help?

Alcoholism
is a terrible condition- And I do know people who have said AA and NA is rubbish- but the simple fact is- It does help a huge amount of people.

I hope “Alice” makes it- and the chap I know of too.

oakleaffy · 14/05/2024 22:06

Bruisername · 13/05/2024 22:41

I’m assuming self destruct is her getting blotto in front of xander?

The creators of the series clearly have researched well.
Many addicts/ alcoholics feel they can’t live without their drug or drink of choice- and are beyond help.
How “Alice” feels right now.

It’ll be interesting how it all turns out when “George” fesses up - or the fact that he was driving comes to light.

I don’t want spoilers though!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/05/2024 22:14

Best head for the main thread, then, @oakleaffy! I'm sorry to hear about your friend's relative. That must be tough.
