Or a Great Cheese Theft.
Ooh, cheese thieves could carry out a Romance Scam against Helen and make off with all her cheese!

Bruisername · 20/11/2024 14:31

Only if the scammer is a penguin and is thwarted by a man who has a dog with very expressive eyebrows

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/11/2024 14:46

this would be most believable if one of the older characters got one of the infamous ‘this is your bank calling’ calls

Sigh. Yes indeed. They could add the neat little twist we had recently that what my Mum thought were scam calls were actually genuine automated calls from the bank asking her to verify that a transaction on her credit card was indeed hers. It was, but she is very deaf so struggles a bit with the phone anyway, and was so panicked by the very idea of trying to distinguish real contact from the bank and scam calls that she ignored all the calls and her card got frozen. Fortunately I have power of attorney so I can speak to the bank, and after finally staying on the line for 20 minutes in spite of the repeated warnings that We are experiencing very high volumes of calls at the moment ... I managed to speak to a human who was very helpful and understanding, but insisted the card had to be cancelled and re-issued. I have now made myself the primary contact so we should avoid this in future. Should have done it earlier. Lesson learned.

Yeah my mum refuses to speak to anyone who calls her from the bank! Sometimes they get shitty with her 🙄

WhoppingBigBackside · 20/11/2024 15:18

Don't you just love being told repeatedly that you'd have your problem solved if you went to wubbiyuw wubbiyuw wubbiyuw when the reason you are calling is because you can't access your online account?

Bruisername · 20/11/2024 15:23

Yes! DH got caught in a doom loop of ‘please tell us what you want to talk about’ ‘did you say ‘insert wrong thing here’

after about 10 minutes I heard a despairing cry of ‘I just want to talk to a human being’ and then he got cut off!!!

Don't get me started on that! The bank has been pretty good in most respects but I couldn't set up a new savings account for Mum online. I had to speak to someone on the phone, which was a dreadful waste of time for both the staff member and me, as a large part of the call was taken up with the staff member reading me the terms and conditions. The lengthy wait to get through in the first place was punctuated by the recorded voice asking me why I didn't try doing this stuff online and me shouting back 'Because you won't let me!'

I think we discussed that one at the time, didn't we? Here or on the other thread. I don't think they could have amended the scripts quickly enough to squeeze this in, but it would have made a fantastic storyline for Bridge Farm.

Bruisername · 20/11/2024 16:56

Yes we did on other thread

could they really steal that value of borchester blue?

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/11/2024 17:22

Ah well, I must have missed that discussion somehow.
Imagine the conniptions though, if a smooth-talking rogue made off with her cheese!

Bruisername · 20/11/2024 17:46

It would be far better than this scam week I’m sure!!

Bruisername · 20/11/2024 17:46

But they would probably make it Emma or Susan’s fault because only the lower class can be stupid enough to fall for a scam 🙄

TottersBlankly · 20/11/2024 20:09

I recall posting that actual headline on the main thread - but I’m not sure it aroused much interest.

It could indeed be an amazing Bridge Farm story - but I guess the creative team might think it too on the nose, so they’re likely to inflict the damage on another farm with a different enterprise.

Bruisername · 20/11/2024 20:20

Sheep rustling?

perhaps Henry’s stinky goat will be kidnapped and we’ll get a hero sniffer dog sl

Possibly because nobody could get their head around the idea of anyone wanting to steal Mankwold?

It’s difficult enough accepting the notion that anyone would buy the filthy stuff, after all.

DeanElderberry · 20/11/2024 21:23

so now Mick's van is in the pub carpark can we hope that the new names will be a busload of crusties moving in to camp for the winter?

Gosh golly, billygoats smell! is a bit of a non story. They are animals that don't bring out the best in the SWs anyway, I still resent the cross-dressing goatherding story from more than 20 years ago. Their sense of smell would protect them from falling for anything so daft.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/11/2024 23:46

Cross-dressing goat herder?!?
Tell me more...
<agog>

DeanElderberry · 21/11/2024 07:51

Goat newly arrived at Grange Farm, no doubt doomed to feature in some get-rich-quick scheme had had bad experience with men, displayed quite reasonable hostility, Joe thought if they stole one of Clarrie's dresses and Eddie wore it the goat would think he was a woman because the goat was an early-wave genderist and prioritised stereotyped presentation over the evidence of her own senses.

Or maybe that was the scriptwriter, because the goat wasn't fooled.

edited to remove over-use of the word doomed, it must be something about Grange Farm. Or maybe goats?

DeanElderberry · 21/11/2024 07:56

Clarrie was furious btw.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/11/2024 12:41

Goodness me. I haven't missed an episode for over 20 years but I have no memory of that. I must have blotted it out of my memory, and for good reason.

OP posts:
WhoppingBigBackside · 22/11/2024 17:57

You blocked it out for good reason, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g .

Gonners · 22/11/2024 19:26

22.11 There’s a near miss for Kenton, and Justin makes his mark.

Did I miss something, or do they not know what "a near miss" means?

RegimentalSturgeon · 22/11/2024 19:33

The latter.
