Spoilers thread for The Archers. All Archers listeners are welcome here, whether you post on our main Archers thread or not. There's just one rule: please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers thread.

We usually add the BBC teasers and cast lists for forthcoming episodes as they
become available, plus the Radio Times and Daily Mail previews when possible.
Feel free to add anything else you come across, e.g. cast news, scriptwriter
tweets!

I’m sure he told her about Denise

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/08/2024 19:35

I think you're right, but only obliquely: he said he'd gone on a date because he'd decided he couldn't put his life on hold waiting for something that might not happen, which I think led to her realising that he had a crush on someone else.

Bruisername · 11/08/2024 19:41

Yes that sounds about right. Sue seemed pretty level headed about it all

maybe she’ll turn up at the bull on a date with john

That would be wonderful.

I have a feeling Denise is a bit dog in a manger and will be miffed if/when John moves on. If not Laura perhaps another eligible woman in the village. I thought of Helen but John seems very nice and does not deserve the drama she would no doubt bring.

Gonners · 11/08/2024 20:33

It would be great if John moved on really quickly (and openly, and happily) with someone local, because that would cause ructions all round. Kirsty's available and owns a house. She would have to evict Helen, of course - goodness, how tragic! But I wouldn't wish her on John (or on anyone, frankly), so perhaps he could get it together with Fallon and turn The Bull into a top venue for hungry and thirsty cyclists. Then Kenton and J'lene could go and visit his daughter Wossname in the Anti-Podes and be eaten by an allegedly extinct Tasmanian tiger.

Haven't listened to tonight's yet. Glanced at the main thread, though, and I realise there is no hint in the spoilers of Grundy or Horrobin reactions to the A level results this week - both Brad and Mia must be on tenterhooks. We haven't a clue where either of them may be headed, have we? Neither feature in the cast list this week - no Horrobins at all, Will and Emma are probably going to be preoccupied with the loathsome George. With luck we will get a passing reference from someone. I'll be cross if it's ignored.

I can’t believe they're going to postpone the inevitable until the end of August 🙄

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/08/2024 21:00

The George actor is good.

Part of me hopes Brad fails everything but on the other hand I hope he gets best results ever and goes to a university, far, far away, never to return. Tedious twerp.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/08/2024 16:54

He has applied to Felpersham, I think, because he was scared of leaving home. Also he wanted to go to the same place as Mia.

TherapistInATabard · 14/08/2024 08:10

Brad is in the cast list next week, so hopefully we’ll hear then at least.

Full round up of spoilers at the weekend, once the BBC has put up the latest batch and we're done with this week, but here's the Radio Times for next week:

Radio Times Ambridge Diary August 18th-23rd
George makes a shocking decision that has far-reaching consequences and soon everyone at Bridge Farm is sucked into his actions. Natasha and Pat are landed with problems too, and there's another shock in store that affects many Ambridge residents. Alistair finds himself in trouble with Lovell James, Denise struggles with her living situation and Kirsty is offered a surprising opportunity.

Thoughts on what George is going to do? We already have the daily teasers for next week.
18/8 Alistair faces the consequences, and George takes shocking action.
19/8 Will is forced to improvise, and Jim makes a suggestion.
20/8 A mystery deepens for the Grundys, and the pressure mounts at Bridge Farm.
21/8 Ed attempts to do the right thing, and there’s light at the end of the tunnel for Denise.
22/8 An opportunity presents itself for Kirsty, while Susan offers some advice.
23/8 A surprise visitor causes chaos, and Paul comes to the rescue.

Crikey. George takes The Twins hostage?

JanglyBeads · 15/08/2024 15:14

Not sure how that'd help him, but you know, George....

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/08/2024 15:24

Frankly, I'd rule nothing out now. On the main thread Reg Sturg has mused about George attempting to murder Alice, and I had been thinking on the same lines. However, if there were to be anything as huge as that in the offing, I'd be expecting wall to wall trailers for several days leading up to it. Anything of that nature today? (Been out.)

OP posts:
JanglyBeads · 15/08/2024 15:39

Far reaching consequences (which are predictable immediately presumably).
Hmm.
And the rest of Bridge Farm gets sucked in. What are they doing farm-wise atm. Who have we heard talking to G there recently? I only half heard the last couple of days' episodes.

As you say, no huge advertising effort (well, have seen one tweet), like at the time of the accident, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

TottersBlankly · 15/08/2024 16:09

He’ll run away. I keep hoping for Canada but not sure if he has that sort of money. Bridge Farm are sucked in because they’ll be (inexplicably) short handed without him.

Is Roy going to suggest Kirsty buys his house? Meaning she’d sell her Beechwood house to Helen? (Wild guess.)

MsCheeryble · 15/08/2024 16:15

Perhaps George will decide that the mysterious person he saw in or near Alice's car looked like Tom; 😁

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/08/2024 16:18

That's a good shout, Totters. George probably doesn't have that sort of money. Does he have a passport? Has he ever been abroad? However, going back to the money, he knows a man who does (Oliver) and we suspect from the never-resolved incident of the stolen charity box when Great-Uncle Alf was visiting many years ago that George is quite happy to steal to get what he wants. I wouldn't be in the least surprised if he knows where Oliver keeps his PIN and/or internet banking passwords written down. Or maybe he'll steal from Bridge Farm. The farm shop presumably has a till.

We know from recent events that he wants to arrange the world to suit him rather than face up to problems and take the consequences, and who cares what happens to the other people caught up in his schemes? (Except that he's found, very much to his surprise, I suspect) that he can't entirely block out the guilt and shame, and I expect he wants to run away from that as well.)

OP posts:
Bruisername · 15/08/2024 16:20

Is it that realistic the shop will have that much cash these days?

TottersBlankly · 15/08/2024 16:23

Oh yes - stealing money from Bridge Farm could be it.

Maybe not cash? He may well have / gain access to an online farm account.

Oh dear. That would be bad. But he’s still almost a child and isn’t that what a child would do - just run away?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/08/2024 16:30

Almost a child? He'll be 19 in April! There are kids several years younger than that being sentenced for their part in the recent riots. Others his age are in the armed forces or the emergency services or getting married and having children. I know his brain (what little there is of it) is still developing, but he's been a toerag all his life.

Twins, boiler suits, miniature organic vegetable garden and the big modelling job pay cheque.

I think it's his infantile reactions and behaviour that make people think George is almost a child.
