Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to have your fortune told by Bartleby, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thread thrown together in great haste in advance of tonight's episode. Who's in the Am? Is it George's fault? Is this the end for Alice? Over to you!

I’m not so sure - it sounded like he realised after the rescue. He wouldn’t have known he would have had time to move her

WombatCowgirl · 06/05/2024 19:36

I feel sorry for George. It was upsetting hearing Fallon almost drown, I'm glad she didn't.

JanglyBeads · 06/05/2024 19:36

Well there's no fun storyline to go on possibly for months if he admitted it to the call handler!

Dobest · 06/05/2024 19:37

Will Big Al never stop this "Are you sure?" shit!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 06/05/2024 19:37

I thought I had predicted the seat swap but must have been posting it on Mustardland.

I wasn't sure about deddings but this is going to cause ructions.

Fallon said she saw the car swerving towards them. Fallon and Mick sounded shocked and scared but not out of it the way Joy was. George needs both Fallon and Mick not to have noticed there were 2 people in Alice's car for his story to stand up. Unless he makes the story that he was always the passenger and Alice was driving.

Godesstobe · 06/05/2024 19:39

Perhaps Fallon will decide she wants a baby Harrison after this brush with death.
I can see Harrison pursuing an unauthorised investigation into either Alice or George, depending on who he thinks is to blame if Fallon now suffers from PTSD. That could be career ending.

Worthitforthe · 06/05/2024 19:39

Presumably it's night time though so how would they see who was in which seat? Shocking 😳

It was awful to listen to. That's the best Mick acting we've heard from Mick.

Wrong quote

TheUsualChaos · 06/05/2024 19:40

Nope sorry, I can't forgive George for moving Alice. What would be so bad about him being the driver unless he was well over the limit himself? The repercussions for him are not in the same league. Alice could have gone back to rehab and got herself back on track. But now she will loose absolutely everything. But all George thought about when the sirens came was George.

EBearhug · 06/05/2024 19:40

I should think George has passed his test - he's probably grown up driving tractors and stuff off road at Grange Farm (wasn'the driving there gor haying one year? Or was that Emma?) We don't often hear about younger characters taking tests - they often just morph from non-driving to driving without mention, unless there are plot points like Chelsea having an accident and Josh getting his first car.

JanglyBeads · 06/05/2024 19:41

No!

Fallon!

Yeah, Oscar worthy.

Don't know. How much would you notice of the car coming towards you?

yes sure it was already discussed earlier

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/05/2024 19:43

Surely even George wouldn’t have got in a car with someone who’d had a litre of vodka - he has too much of a sense of self preservation for that. I presume he’ll say she drove off when asked to explain the voice message to Will. However, that assumes Alice doesn’t remember anything. It’s entirely feasible that she will remember “flashes” of what happened…but who will believe a drunk when she’s adamant she was in the passenger seat?

Of course, it would be helpful if Joy/Mick had dash cams and they either survived the dunking or they automatically uploaded to the cloud.

I hope not. It would be nice for once to see people being happy without children, rather than it always being the case that they “settle down and realise a baby is what will make them truly happy and complete”.

JanglyBeads · 06/05/2024 19:45

Was mick picking Fallon and joy up from the concert? Joy only had one spare ticket

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/05/2024 19:45

I don't think George can hope to get away with saying he got into the car with Alice and let her drive, given the state she was in. He pointed out to Alistair that she seemed to have drunk a bottle of vodka and Alistair confirmed that she bought it in the shop earlier that day. (Going to have to listen again. Details are hazy already!) Surely he's going to have to say he was walking home and came upon the accident?

Snap(ish)! Dashcams - good thinking!

Brian survived (for now) - thank God! But George is a little sh*t moving Alice back into the driving seat. And dim to boot, because anyone with any sense would just have phoned her dad when they found her, not attempt to drive her home.
So does Will dob in George after listening to the voicemail?
None of this explains why Ruairi is coming home tho......

TheUsualChaos · 06/05/2024 19:46

Joy was driving wasn't she and it sounds like she had a head injury so she might not remember any of it. Or will she get a flash back and throw a spanner in the works for George.

ArtG · 06/05/2024 19:47

No, because that would be inconsistent with the phone call. He just needs to say she drove off and he followed or came when he heard the crash.

WitcheryDivine · 06/05/2024 19:47

Surely Alice is too drunk to even know she’s got feet let alone apply them to the pedals

Possibly, although why- given both Joy and Fallon are perfectly capable of driving.
