FILL THE OLD THREAD UP FIRST! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4902507-archers-thread-154-cider-with-fat-rosie-meadow-rise-to-candleford-or-the-darling-horrobins-of-september-get-your-rural-saga-fix-discuss-the-archers-here?page=10

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more scenes in the abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Lots of lively discussion about Brad's university aspirations and the Open Day on the last thread. Do you want him to end up at Felpersham or do you want him to spread his wings and go further afield? Where will Mia go?

Will this thread see the end of Rob, or do we have many weeks more before his long overdue demise?

What's going on at Grey Gables? Are they running into financial trouble? Will we hear from Roy, who I had forgotten was working there until he was mentioned the other day? Who are the mysterious 'Owners'? Will the locum GP turn out to be Adil's sister, as we have been surmising since she first spoke? Why's she been conjured up?

Talking of the GP, I'm hoping against hope we're not in for bad news about Jim's mole.

Praying that we're going to get a long and much-needed break from hearing P*p. Not praying that we hear Rob being christened. Who would be his sponsor, as someone commented on the last thread? Harrison? Surely that would be a conflict of interest. Can't see who else would do it locally.

I wonder how Ben is getting on now he's back on his nursing degree? Will we ever hear anything about Lily's course, or how Freddie's getting on at the abattoir?

So many questions! Over to you for some answers and boundless speculation.

Eddie is sounding more and more excitable. Is there something in the water?

What was remarkable was Eddie calling in a vet

EmmasBirthdayEarrings · 17/10/2023 09:24

I avoided becoming a regular listener for years because of Clarrie and Eddie and Joe. I just couldn’t get through their scenes - the ferret on the loose in GG after the flood was unbearable. Eventually I capitulated and then things obviously improved hugely when Joe died but I still have to switch off when they have one of their ongoing scam SLs.

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 17/10/2023 13:36

I still think Max Crawford (was that his name- Lillian‘a ex) could be the mysterious owner of GG.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/10/2023 13:48

Matt probably wouldn't have the money; he didn't really deal in millions (plural). Hundreds of thousands was his mark.

Ooooh interesting! I think it was Matt.

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 17/10/2023 13:51

True @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime but then he tended to use other people’s money fairly often.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/10/2023 14:09

I don't think he would have allowed his confederates to leave a single-point-of-failure person in charge with no oversight whatever, though. He was cannier than that.

faffadoodledo · 17/10/2023 14:19

I think Eddie has been listening to motivational and management podcasts with his talk of him and Oliver being 'game changers'

SequentialAnalyst · 17/10/2023 15:04

I am not going to comment on TA for the time being. But I'll still be here Wink
@Bruisername PM'd you yesterday evening.

Westwindworries · 17/10/2023 15:36

Re Eddie's witch walk. I'm involved with a group which does history walks and we have public liability insurance and training in Health & Safety.

We're not walking through woods at night, we're not scary and our main H&S issue is walking over cobblestones.

I wouldn't be leading a witch walk without Public Liability Insurance.

WombatCowgirl · 17/10/2023 19:01

I feel it's a shame that no one has even mentioned witch trials as being as a result of hatred for and fear of women, especially women past childbearing age. I know it's not public service broadcasting, but it goes out of the way to be sensitive in some respects. The last time I was offended by it was when Chris, I think, was being crucified as Jesus in a mystery play, and women were sniggering about how sexy he was in a loin cloth being tortured to death on a cross.

I enjoyed Tiger and Pusscat. Justin a damp squib in comparison

Bruisername · 17/10/2023 19:15

Boiled egg and hazelnut curry! Intriguing.

Lee is definitely on the way out.

how thick are Oliver and Lynda!!! Honestly, why are they trying to make out the village is full of idiots?

Sidebeforeself · 17/10/2023 20:15

I am always shocked when Carrie and Susans ages are referred to. Can’t believe Susan has just turned sixty! I’ve been listening for ten year and I thought she was in her 70s then! That’s radio I suppose.
But Claris’s strange noises are getting worse.. please God she never has a scene with Jill The Owl…although has the actress officially left now?

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/10/2023 20:15

Boiled egg and hazelnut curry! Intriguing.
Yuk!

BeaLola · 17/10/2023 20:48

I know quite a bit is going on (and on) but I am trying to fathom Lynda "Tuesday is the day I empty the bin" - wouldn't you be doing it every day ??

She said the paper bins. I only empty our bedroom paper recycling bins once a week.

Maybe she has a different arrangement for the actual rubbish. I've never been or hosted a long-term B&B resident, but I could imagine that they might have reached an agreement to give Adil some privacy - he leaves the bagged rubbish outside his door or something.

BeaLola · 17/10/2023 21:24

Yes good points - I just think Linda would be doing new towels etc or something even though he is long staying guest

As to Oliver - surely whatever paperwork he signed gives him just more than Ardil for the new GG revamp - would Roy who has disappeared not have noticed anything either ???

Bruisername · 17/10/2023 21:34

As soon as she knew adil was going away surely she would have been in the room to change sheets/give it a clean etc in anticipation of his return

I just can’t believe they fell for the note! I guess his sister will be involved soon. Still have my money on her and alastair although I can’t remember how old he is - maybe he’s a bit old for her

echt · 17/10/2023 21:35

I don't know what caught my attention more, the boiled egg and hazelnut curry, which I think the SLs put in to give this thread something to talk about, or Lee's trainers humming on the radiators.

Helen has the ick doesn't she?

WeWereInParis · 17/10/2023 22:06

Helen has the ick doesn't she?

I agree. But there were a couple of mentions of smells turning her stomach. Maybe it's just in my head because of the the previous talk on here of a surprise Pip pregnancy, but I did wonder.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/10/2023 22:35

There's something in the water, as I've always suspected. They are all as thick as two short planks. Sadly, the SWs must think we're drinking the same water. Join the dots, FFS! Excellent point about Roy. Why aren't they all bombarding him with questions? And what on earth has Oliver been doing all these months, given he knows nothing about what's happening? Hasn't Adil been writing reports and updates? Also, how has it happened that Ian has morphed back into Executive Chef, when he was appointed as Head of Food, which appeared to be a job signing contracts for ingredients?

WitcheryDivine · 17/10/2023 22:40

Ah so this is why they were so clear that Adil sister doesn’t live in the village. Presumably she’ll be none the Wiser until Eg Oliver has a funny turn due to the stress

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 17/10/2023 22:58

It’s true Helen’s ick was all about smells. I wondered …

Given her habitual inclinations, she’d probably keep the baby but divest herself of its biological parent.

WitcheryDivine · 17/10/2023 23:04

I don’t know, I’ve heard it said before that when you get put off someone‘s smell that’s a sure sign of the end. But that’s more like Normal skin smell not stinky trainers. Leaving those on the radiators is rank and I’m surprised at Lee who I’d have thought had an antibacterial spray and was very scrupulous with his stuff (since he’s very conscious of not being stinky in the armpit region).

the note thing was ridiculous.
