FILL THE OLD THREAD UP FIRST! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4902507-archers-thread-154-cider-with-fat-rosie-meadow-rise-to-candleford-or-the-darling-horrobins-of-september-get-your-rural-saga-fix-discuss-the-archers-here?page=10

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more scenes in the abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Lots of lively discussion about Brad's university aspirations and the Open Day on the last thread. Do you want him to end up at Felpersham or do you want him to spread his wings and go further afield? Where will Mia go?

Will this thread see the end of Rob, or do we have many weeks more before his long overdue demise?

What's going on at Grey Gables? Are they running into financial trouble? Will we hear from Roy, who I had forgotten was working there until he was mentioned the other day? Who are the mysterious 'Owners'? Will the locum GP turn out to be Adil's sister, as we have been surmising since she first spoke? Why's she been conjured up?

Talking of the GP, I'm hoping against hope we're not in for bad news about Jim's mole.

Praying that we're going to get a long and much-needed break from hearing P*p. Not praying that we hear Rob being christened. Who would be his sponsor, as someone commented on the last thread? Harrison? Surely that would be a conflict of interest. Can't see who else would do it locally.

I wonder how Ben is getting on now he's back on his nursing degree? Will we ever hear anything about Lily's course, or how Freddie's getting on at the abattoir?

So many questions! Over to you for some answers and boundless speculation.

Clarrie was at work - at Bridge Farm. No wonder she was a bit discombobulated.

Not yesterday, she wasn’t. The Grundys were at the village shop and then at Grange Farm.
That wobble in the voice is ludicrous and makes me imagine her looking much like one of ‘they’ turkeys, with quivering, wattle-like jowls and chin-sag.

Ah, I must have been mistaken. But they encountered Lee, didn't they? The partner of Helen, Clarrie's employer?

Wattle-like jowls? Chin sag? Charming! Genuinely Angrythis time.

Klaxon - pip is back if anyone wants to avoid! She and Stella have the oddest conversations and I’d rather not hear them

Alastair sounded different. Is he legally divorced from Shula? Is he going to marry Adils sister?

is the gg project part of a con? It would explain all the stupid decisions and how badly run the whole thing is- has adil been squirrelling money away and putting in fake invoices

can’t believe Jill would have been asking about pronouns. Total bullshit. Pip and Stella aren’t the first gay couple in the village

I wonder if Jill was being portrayed as quite PA. 'Oh, a lesbian, eh? I suppose she'll be non-binary or vegan next. Always looking for attention!'

I'm quite glad my Granny was long dead before my cousin came out (to be fair, she would have been 110). Granny lost her inhibitions along with her hearing and I can just imagine a loud comment like 'so which one's the man then, in the bedroom?'

Bruisername · 16/10/2023 19:42

But the silly little conversations you have with your partner generally sound ridiculous to the outside world and the sw seem intent on exposing us to them.

also, Rosie doing cartwheels of excitement 🙄

I think the references to jowls etc was because clarrie sounds like she’s a turkey- that’s how I read it. Has Eddie killed clarrie and replaced her with a giant turkey?

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2023 19:55

FOOT-LONG TURKEY WORMS?!!!

Did you mean Ian?

Yes, stupid moment!

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2023 19:55

FOOT-LONG TURKEY WORMS?!!!

That was exactly my reaction as well 🤢

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/10/2023 22:29

Alistair and Shula have been divorced for a fairly long time, I believe.

There's clearly something very odd about the GG story, but I fear it may not be a very convincing denouement. We shall see.

Oh, poultry medicine is fascinating and frequently horrifying. Truly.

I saw something on Instagram about tapeworms in eggs with an accompanying gross video

I’ve just decided to pretend I didn’t see it and assume the lion mark means it’s just a US issue

FOOT-LONG TURKEY WORMS?!!!

I advise you not to read about tape worms in humans

4m has been mentioned

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2023 23:21

I have had (professional) encounters with the human tapeworm - or rather, bits thereof.
Never in close proximity to a festive table though, and I'd like to keep it that way.

SequentialAnalyst · 16/10/2023 23:27

Read about them? I had to study them for O Level Biology Grin A parasite with two hosts, as I recall, for different stages, the other host being the pig. A life cycle which includes a stage rather reminscent of Alien, though on a smaller scale.

Nobody ever served pork pink in those days...

Mumblechum0 · 17/10/2023 00:22

Re Clarrie, I agree about her sounding like a wobbly turkey. She always sounds like such an anachronism, always picture her like a granny from the 1920s, grey hair in a headscarf, nylon pinny, rosy cheeked and very chubby. She's sounded like that forever.

I find it strangely comforting

😂

Alwaysdieting · 17/10/2023 07:25

Yes Clarrie's wobble is over the top, she always sounds like she is going to burst out crying. Mind you being married to Eddie Im not surprised.
I think Helen is going to be single again soon, and Henry knows who painted the church door. Perhaps it was Pat!
Ardil's allotment is going to need a lot of weeding if he comes back. He cant sort out GG and grow winter veg its too much for him.

Patcherdog · 17/10/2023 07:28

It sounded a bit like a con last night.

Bruisername · 17/10/2023 07:33

If it was a long con by adil then he did a good job of it tbf. Would explain why he moved in with Lynda rather than commuting in from somewhere he could get a flat or something.

I'm assuming if it is a con that he has conned the other owners and they are a load of people investing in his company rather than a hotel group

Ambridge · 17/10/2023 07:55

If it’s a con, his sister also knows about it - I assume, from the conversation they had the other day - so I’d say it’s unlikely.

I’m more annoyed that we’re supposed to believe Oliver has sold his long-established and cherished business to a mystery buyer whose name has never once been mentioned, who’s never been glimpsed except through a single representative, Adil, and yet who has enough funds to embark on a year-long complete renovation of a large country-house hotel to a luxury standard. And Oliver doesn’t appear to think this is in any way odd, nor has he accidentally blurted out the name.

Who IS this person and why, for goodness sake, insist on keeping them shrouded in total anonymity? It’s the Gills all over again.

Chemenger · 17/10/2023 08:02

I haven’t listened for a month (covid, holiday, covid again). I haven’t kept up on here either. I’m hoping Rob is dead, Pip is dead (or at least no longer a lesbian) and the Grey Gables grand opening has taken place successfully. How disappointed am I going to be?

Passepartoute · 17/10/2023 08:05

Sorry Chemenger, you may be disappointed enough to go into a relapse. Better have the medication ready before you turn the radio on.

Did anyone else find the sound was dodgy last night? I thought it was my radio, but the announcer afterwards and the subsequent programme were absolutely fine.

TherapistInATabard · 17/10/2023 08:09

@Chemenger you have been found disappointed on all three charges, I’m afraid. The writing was better last week (Keri) so there’s that. I hope you’re feeling better x

JayAlfredPrufrock · 17/10/2023 09:04

Eddie is sounding more and more excitable. Is there something in the water?

Parasites are wondrous things. There’s one which has stages in mouse and cat, it disrupts the mouse’s brain so it comes dancing out in front of the cat saying “catch me!” Clever stuff!
