Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Shock to all of that! Lol

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/07/2023 10:59

Rob will say he is dying and will win Helen round. She dumps Lee...
Helen makes another tuna bake and home-made custard...
Joy drowns Rob in the hot tub ...

Rob reports Henry's bruises to SS.

Stella and Pip become a couple. Ruth and Stella have an affair. Pip leaves Ambridge ...

Fallon finds out she's in labour and gives birth to baby Harrisonson Burns...

The Henry actor is good so far, much better than the Cassette-Tape Robot Henwee of yore.

Gonners · 12/07/2023 12:23

I've never made tuna pasta bake, or even seen it in the wild, but the very idea of it revolts me.

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/07/2023 12:39

Anything bake sounds revolting, as does anything melt.
Tuna smells like cat food to me.

MuddlerInLaw · 12/07/2023 12:39

Great stuff, @WhoppingBigBackside!

What I really want to hear is that the Rob actor Timothy Watson has a solid year of TV filming coming up, necessitating the silencing of Rob. 🙏

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/07/2023 12:48

I like his voice and he's a good actor. They should have not made him into such a baddie then he could have stayed as a main character.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/07/2023 17:27

I like tinned tuna. My favourite thing to do with it is to make a bean salad by mixing cannellini or other beans with spring or red onion, lots of parsley and a dressing made from extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice and mustard. Plenty of salt and pepper. Flake the tinned tuna on top. Eat with some good bread, and maybe some leaves or a crunchy salad on the side.

I'm not sure I've ever made a tuna bake, but it's just tuna, pasta and some sort of sauce, probably with cheese on the top, isn't it? Tuna bake melt has a certain ring to it, @WhoppingBigBackside ... Grin

Bleurgh! Didn't Helen's tuna bake end on the floor?
Many years ago, 'melt' would be on most menus I saw, usually as a panini melt (toasted cheese sandwich) or bruschetta melt (cheese on toast), pasta bake would also appear as a main dish.

Where do the Ambridge residents buy petrol?

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/07/2023 19:46

I make tuna with pasta also including onions, peppers, courgettes, spinach or whatever I happen to have and either tinned tomatoes or soft cheese or both. I might eat it as it is or put grated cheese on top and bake it. Simple comfort food.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/07/2023 20:34

In our house macaroni cheese with tinned tuna in it is known as MacTuna and is a popular supper-dish. That is baked in the oven. Does it count as a tuna bake?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/07/2023 20:46

I would say so. Melted cheese is so good. I had a Croque Monsieur for lunch today and it was lovely.

Gonners · 12/07/2023 20:53

Melted cheese is great, as is tuna. The thought of the combination provokes the boak response. As for the addition of sweetcorn - I have no words.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/07/2023 21:13

Tuna pasta bake is known in Australia as tuna mornay and is a bit of a classic dish. Lots of recipes online.

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/07/2023 21:35

I've already expressed my thoughts, but I still looked up Bore's suggestion and found this

No wonder I don't fancy it. Grin

One of my favourite meals when I was growing up was this cheap and cheerful pasta bake

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/07/2023 22:08

The ones I enjoyed were nothing like that Whopping!

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/07/2023 22:23

Did you not use 'floor' in yours, Bore? Hmm

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/07/2023 22:26

DKitten likes melted cheese.

Actually, I didn't make them myself, I let others do that. The best ones were sort of in layers, with lots of cheesy bechamel. A common variation was with rice rather than pasta.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2023 17:28

All sane people like melted cheese. The bits that get extra crispy are the best of all.

Our cats won't eat it

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/07/2023 17:33

I can't agree with you Gasp. It depends on what cheese it is. Melted cheese is not necessarily grilled or baked, so there might not be any crispy bits.

Cheese on toast made with microwaved cheese and toast toasted in a toaster is not a treat. Cheese on toast made with red leicester under a grill is delicious.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/07/2023 17:34

I haven't asked DKitten if she likes tuna. She doesn't like sprats.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/07/2023 17:35

There's not been much fishy business in Ambridge recently. It's pork and porkies this week.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2023 17:40

Microwaved cheese on toast! [faints] This is what grills and ovens are for.

There's not been much fishy business in Ambridge recently. It's pork and porkies this week. Indeed. Grin

Radio Times Ambridge Diary July 16th – 21st July 2023
After last week's bolt from the blue, Helen is cornered by an unexpected person with a surprising request.
There's tension among the Grundys as George finds actions can have far-reaching consequences, while Emma trades blows with an old enemy - and there are shocking repercussions when Neil insists on an intervention.
Meanwhile, Jazzer and Tracy find their honeymoon is very quickly over.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 16th – 21st July 2023
Jazzer and Tracey’s honeymoon period seems well and truly over as they return to Ambridge.
Troubled Helen find herself cornered, and Tony is struggling to control his emotions.

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=Miles but no Rob; hmmm. I think Miles asks Helen to look after Rob because his wife has refused to help him at all, and that's what corners Helen. (And her reply should be simply "no" , and repeat it ad lib, but it won't be, will it. Argh.)
