🎄Archers thread #122: Deck the Hall with Eddie, Freddie 🎵 'Tis the Season to be jolly (but orange juice for you, Alice)

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you love Bert Fry’s poetry (as I do), or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @C8H10N4O2 for requesting an annoyingly cheerful thread title which might take us up to Christmas and to @Prestissimo for the title suggestion. I was strongly tempted by @LillianGish’s suggestion: Eddie’s turkeys, Freddie’s show, village green with lights aglow, Stir Up Sunday, Deck the Hall, Merry Christmas one and all - with apologies to Bert Fry and @R4’s suggestion Wassail to the Ambridge Not-A-Panto where Freddie gets nine LESSONS in directing from CAROLe Lynda. Grin Top work, all!

Three days to go until we can return to Ambridge. Sad

My list for Father Christmas

In the next few weeks I’d like:

  • Freddie’s show to be a huge success
  • Philip and Gavin to be driven out of the village with pitchforks into the waiting arms of the police, and the three ‘horses’ Angry rescued and taken in by kind people who will help them turn their lives around
  • Pip to take a perpetual vow of silence and leave for a nunnery
  • a terrific Grundy Christmas (although the travails of Alice and Chris will overshadow things)
  • Alice to lose the baby, as this seems the least grim option for us listeners; she leaves Chris and makes a fresh start of some kind

What do you all want for Christmas from The Archers?

OK, READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TONIGHT

Really. Off you go if you don't want to know.

OK, here we go.

Gavin asked Philip to think again about selling the 'horses' to Victoria and Philip pooh poohed all concerns.

Philip and Kirsty are now married. Helen was summoned to be a witness with Gavin. While they were waiting, she explained to Gavin how and why Rob was a controlling monster. You could hear the scales falling from Gavin's eyes.

Philip came out with some nauseatingly sentimental guff about how wonderful she was, and she sounded deliriously happy. Poor, poor Kirsty. Sad

I rushed off to listen...not quite as dramatic as I expected!

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 10/12/2020 19:49

@CaptainMyCaptain

At least she'll get the house now won't she?
Only if he dies...
MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2020 19:49

Poor Cursedy indeed.

MrsGrindah · 10/12/2020 19:52

Oh you’ve spoilt it now.

Grin
CodenameVillanelle · 10/12/2020 19:52

Not if it was bought with the proceeds of crime I think?

MrsGrindah · 10/12/2020 19:53

But now I can’t wait till she finds out...

MrsGrindah · 10/12/2020 19:54

Thanks Gasp

Madcats · 10/12/2020 19:58

I think Gavin might be spending some time getting to know Helen.

Damaged souls together....

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/12/2020 20:04

@CodenameVillanelle

But would an innocent spouse be thrown out of their home? Genuine question, I have no idea.
OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 10/12/2020 20:06

Gav is either going to set the horses free and encourage them to run far, far away

or

Confess the whole thing to Harrison

Augustbreeze · 10/12/2020 20:07

It was significant that Helen explained how no one could see through her husband's shiny veneer.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 10/12/2020 20:18

I'm just relieved we didn't have the police rolling up to the door in the middle of the wedding. Was all much too tense for an unsuspecting Thursday.

theThreeofWeevils · 10/12/2020 20:19

Philip could be forced to sell his share of the property under Proceeds of Crime legislation, so yes, it could be that she would be forced to leave. She certainly can't buy him out, having barely a pot to piss in in her own right.
So yay & hurrah. Kirsty is stuffed.

But would she keep her share of the house? (Then Helen buy the other half.)
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/12/2020 20:43

I don't think Helen and Gav are going to get together. We haven't heard him for months and months, but Helen is still with Lee, isn't she?

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 10/12/2020 20:45

She mentioned Lee the other day.

MissBarbary · 10/12/2020 20:49

What share? I thought Philip owned the house. Getting married might give her some rights if she and Philip divorce but it doesn't give her half the house so far as creditors, confiscation as proceeds of crime.

Just wondering.

I hated that episode! It seems so mean to give Kirsty such a rotten life! Jilted at the altar, miscarriage, ending up with a total scum bag ... who she's now MARRIED to.

So upset! Kirsty is one of the few I really like. 😰

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/12/2020 20:54

I can't remember if they bought the house jointly. If they did, presumably they also got a joint mortgage.

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 10/12/2020 20:57

I think she might have put in a smaller portion. Presumably she would keep this unless the police thought she was involved too.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 10/12/2020 21:09

Wonder how long the new Mrs Moss will get to enjoy her altered state?

I couldn’t agree more, and a good actor too.
