Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to share a camomile tea with Kate, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish for the excellent Bert Fry tribute title!

I don't think this thread will get us to Easter, but we should be well into Lent before we need a new title. I wonder if St Stephen's will have a new oh-so-interesting Lent initiative this year. When did we last hear from Alan?

Wasn't Gavin a nasty piece of work a few weeks ago? Is Em in for a nasty shock if she takes him on?

LillianGish · 04/03/2020 10:43

Absolutely! We know that, Kirsty knows that, but Emmur has only seen his charming side.

Madcats · 04/03/2020 11:49

Whilst sorting through family post today, I flicked through The Book People's clearance catalogue. They are selling Keri's "The Archers: Year of Food & Farming" for a quid.

(£17 off)

I probably shouldn't tell him, should I!

Langsdestiny · 04/03/2020 12:40

Sigh. So Emma will discover that Gavin is a wrong'un and will run back to Ed, as obviously it's not possible for Emma to be on her own or eventually meet a man who is decent and not a grundy.

R4 · 04/03/2020 19:43

They are so heavy-handed with their compare&contrast.

SurpriseSparDay · 04/03/2020 19:55

Not sure I want an Archers where Ed and Emma are divorced. They’re meant to be together.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2020 20:09

I believe they will get back together, I want them to.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 04/03/2020 20:13

I have just learned, this very evening, that the exceptionally talented Sally Wainwright was an Archers scriptwriter in the very early 1990s.

It was her very first job as a professional writer - even before writing anything for television.

She needs to come back! To take The Archers by the scruff of the neck and sort it out!! Grin

UntamedWisteria · 04/03/2020 20:16

They haven't mentioned coronavirus yet, have they?

(I haven't been paying much attention lately)

They're going to have to slip that in soon...

LillianGish · 04/03/2020 21:11

They’re meant to be together They should never have split up in the first place - I couldn't help thinking when Emmur was telling Gav about all the jobs she had done to try and earn enough for the house (not to mention trying to borrow off everyone in the village) that Ed was only doing to same when he started his dodgy dealings with Timotei - wholeheartedly encouraged by Emmur. I think Ed will rescue her from Gav. He has to. Their's is a story I actually care about and am engaged with.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2020 21:26

Wasn't it Phil who introduced Ed to Timotei?

MollyButton · 04/03/2020 21:57

Nope I think it was Oliver. Who got Timotei to fix the kennels for the hunt I think.

EBearhug · 04/03/2020 21:58

I think it was Oliver, too.

inkysplatter · 04/03/2020 21:59

Hi all, not caught up with everything yet and from the thread it looks like I've missed an episode. Just had to pop and in say to meredint, it always tickles me in The Tiger Who Came To Tea how calm the dad is about arriving home to no food, water and a tiger ransacked house.

Also a big Enid Blyton fan and preschool book worm. I loved all the adventure ones, but loved the five find outers and a dog, the spiggy holes/secret island bunch and the cousins at mistletoe farm. I wanted to be George from the famous five and cut off my long blonde hair. Blush

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2020 22:08

I bow to pp superior knowledge re Timotei. I was imagining it added to the belief Phil is dodgy.

MollyButton · 04/03/2020 22:15

I was only thinking today that the way Philip sorted out Jim's builders makes it seem unlikely that he didn't know Timotei - which makes you wonder... Especially as he seems to have influence over other firms in the area.

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/03/2020 22:38

inky You're right, but I hadn't thought of that. But it was a very gentle tiger. Now if it had been Hilda, the outcome might have been very different. (I had to drag the conversation back to TA somehow)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/03/2020 07:46

Poor Ed. He obviously hoped Emma was having second thoughts about the separation.

Do we know where Neil and Susan have gone? Hope it's not Northern Italy, Tenerife or somewhere in the Far East.

For some reason, Lanzarote rings a bell.

R4 · 05/03/2020 08:19

He was the one who instigated it. He is doing the "I don't want you but I don't want anyone else to have you" thing.

Do we know where Neil and Susan have gone?
Chile?Grin

Taswama · 05/03/2020 09:30

LOL @R4 !

A little BOOP for Tony telling Tom about how Pat left him to ‘babysit’ them when she was doing all her women’s lib stuff. Also, presumably the ring is in Tasha’s birthday cake?

EBearhug · 05/03/2020 09:51

presumably the ring is in Tasha’s birthday cake?

That is what I assume.

Motoko · 05/03/2020 10:06

I assumed that too. Let's hope Natasha doesn't swallow it!

I agree with R4 about Ed. If he wanted to get back together, he should say so, not try to stop Emma from moving on.

Langsdestiny · 05/03/2020 11:18

For the first time ever I really disliked Tony during that conversation with Tom

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2020 12:23

Tony and "women did the cooking back when we married" isn't really right; they didn't. Or at least, they did if they stopped 'ome while their husband went out to work all day, which was possible but not I think the norm; they certainly didn't if they were half of a couple who both worked on a farm all the hours of daylight.

I think Tony was talking rubbish about that.
