Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to share a camomile tea with Kate, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish for the excellent Bert Fry tribute title!

I don't think this thread will get us to Easter, but we should be well into Lent before we need a new title. I wonder if St Stephen's will have a new oh-so-interesting Lent initiative this year. When did we last hear from Alan?

I wonder where the Shires Brewery is?

If they really want the pub to be trendy, I'm surprised no one has thought of setting up a micro brewery around the back, to produce their own 'artisan' beers.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/02/2020 15:17

a micro brewery around the back,
Or a gin distillery - that could happen.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/02/2020 15:35

I wonder where the Shires Brewery is?

Madely, Shropshire.Changed its name in 2009
www.quaffale.org.uk/php/brewery/219

Now another has taken over the name, and created the most boring facebook page in the history of facebook
www.facebook.com/Shires-Brewery-800519170080535/

Shires, in its various manifestations, seems to be highly thought of among beer drinkers
www.ratebeer.com/ratings/beer/showbrewer-recent.asp?bid=3647

THough the Bull may actually have switched to getting its beer from the more recently opened Three Shires Brewery in Felpersham.

There's nothing I like better than a good excuse to google when I should be getting down to work.

nettie434 · 24/02/2020 15:45

Was it this thread or the last one that somebody asked why we had heard nothing of Mungo for months? I had a quick whizz back but couldn’t find it.

Anyway, I was listening at lunch time and who should be mentioned but Mungo! I call that a result for the poster here.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 24/02/2020 15:46

Do you mean Shires is a real beer, MereDint? Shock

I've always thought it was just a suitaby rustic-sounding made up name.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/02/2020 15:55

The interesting thing is that the brewery which owned the Bull was called Stourhampton Breweries, not Shires; yet they served Shires beer.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 24/02/2020 15:55

Did a spot of googling myself.

Found this Blush

Yup!

Gratifyingly speedy re-write ...Wink

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 24/02/2020 16:13

Oh my goodness! There's an actual TripAdvisor thread all about The Bull Grin

How did I not know about this?

This is one review, and I'm racking my brains to work out whose wedding reception it was. Can someone enlighten me, please?

Adam and Ian's stag night at the Bull was on Sunday 13th December, 2015, and Rob made sure it was rather spoiled for at least one of them, as I recall. That would fit the date more or less.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/02/2020 17:41

There are 55 reviews all told!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 24/02/2020 18:07

Thankyou, AQAAT, that's fabulous info Grin

DadDadDad · 24/02/2020 18:41

For those of a sensitive nature, the Trip Advisor does make a disturbing claim about the actual existence of The Bull at the top of the review page. I wonder when it will get renamed "B @".

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 19:12

This is the first time Roman and Tracy have had this conversation? Hmm

Motoko · 24/02/2020 19:35

I thought surely, how Roman got into acting would have been one of the first questions asked, when they met. Seems odd not to have been, so it must be to enlighten us, the listeners.

I missed the first couple of minutes, what was Tracey hiding from Roman?

nettie434 · 24/02/2020 20:31

I missed the first couple of minutes, what was Tracey hiding from Roman?

Was washing up so may be a very unreliable source but I think it was more a question of his timing rather than her hiding anything. I think they spend more time in public places rather than at home. Tracey was getting the children ready for school. It didn't sound as if he comes round when the children are there. Do you think we should ask about a red flag AIBU for either of them?

theThreeofWeevils · 24/02/2020 20:36

See - he wasn't all bad.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 24/02/2020 20:42

It wasn't clear why Tracey wouldn't let Roman in. He obviously knows where she lives. I think its a sign she doesn't want himm to meet the kids or be a permanent feature, at least not yet.

DadDadDad · 24/02/2020 20:44

Never mind that - am I right in thinking that Alistair was getting a bull to ejaculate in that scene with Ruth. Confused

DadDadDad · 24/02/2020 20:45

?

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 20:46

Poor Tracy - it looks as if Roman is about to experience downward mobility. Shortage of work, less income, probably already living beyond his means, won’t be able to afford wherever he lives, scratching around for a job, begging to move in with her ... And she’ll start finding him less attractive as he becomes more needy and hard to drop ...

I’m exhausted just thinking about it, so hope I’m wrong.

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 20:48

(Don’t know DDD, wasn’t listening properly to Alistair and Ruth.)
