Archers thread #114: Bull banished, Bali beaches beckon, bickering bullshitters burgeon

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/01/2020 21:48

Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Gavin to stay around, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for all thread title suggestions! I've gone with a B theme which with a bit of luck will seem odd and irrelevant by the end of this thread. Here's hoping, anyway.

Haven't caught up with tonight's episode yet, so off to do that shortly.

It's nice to have my own "@" summons to a new thread. Thanks to Gasp0de for keeping us going. I believe this is the thread that will see the 111,111th post, for those who like those sort of things.

I'm loving all the Bs in the title - funnily enough, we do have a pub near us with that name. Well, actually it's full name is the Bees in the Wall. I wonder if that's a common pub name?

As I consider you my little online community Archers (

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/01/2020 21:58

Good luck for tomorrow, DDD! I well remember that nailbiting time.

OP posts:
Fink · 13/01/2020 21:58

Thanks Gaspode.

I really hope Gavin gets his comeuppance soon, he's getting to be more and more of a bully every time we hear him. I bet Joy, with the help of her massive bunch of flowers, could see him off.

DadDadDad · 13/01/2020 22:01

Obviously my nerves are so shot, I wrote "it's" instead of "its". I shall surrender myself to the grammar police forthwith.

Fink · 13/01/2020 22:03

Fingers crossed, DDD. You'll have to go down to DadDad once he's flown the nest. Just think, your DS could be the next Phoebe! Grin

I remember that time too, for myself rather than DC yet (and, having become a perennial student, I relive it from time to time). We didn't know exactly when we'd hear though, so it was probably less stressful than a countdown to D day.

DadDadDad · 13/01/2020 22:14

You'll have to go down to DadDad once he's flown the nest.

Ah yes, because students are well-known for never bothering their parents for laundry, food (and other hotel services) and money during the vacations. I'm sure, like Phoebe, he'll never return to hang around here anymore. Hmm

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/01/2020 22:57

Masterly use of 🐝's Gasp0de

And good luck to SonSonSon!

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/01/2020 22:59

Anyway, back to TA - How long before Alistair tells Philip what he overheard and P cuts off Gavin without a penny?

SurpriseSparDay · 13/01/2020 23:00

Thanks Gasp0 - loving the B @ BBC Archers @ MNHQ!

I would wish your DS luck DDD, but Phoebe makes one suspect that an Oxford undergrad education might not be quite what it was ... Hmm Grin (Thankfully the more mature areas of Oxford academic life are still thriving. At least until the SWs find out about them.)

EBearhug · 14/01/2020 01:57

Didn't Gavin try to ask Kirsty out when Philip first introduced them? I think he's jealous and will try it on with her at some point (quite probably forcing her.)

CodenameVillanelle · 14/01/2020 07:07

Ew well Gavin is a nasty piece of work!

BuckingFrolics · 14/01/2020 07:29

Thinking of the DDD household this morning...

And FFF me but Gavin is unnecessary unless there's a long view being taken that results in Kirsty inheriting a bundle and becoming lady muck-ish-by-TA's-standards.

What oh what is happening with Call Me? I'm so utterly bored with Alistair and Jazzer hassling Jim. In fact I'm bored of Jim, which is a shame as I like the character but have just heard to BBB much from him in recent months.

BuckingFrolics · 14/01/2020 07:31

Here's the "o" that naughtily ran off and would not attach itself to TOO in my previous post. Pesky blighter.

BagpussAteMyHomework · 14/01/2020 07:35

Assuming Philip doesn’t actually keep his laptop in the wardrobe, what was Guilty Gavin looking for in P & Ks bedroom?

LizziesTwin · 14/01/2020 07:41

Morning all! Why do they keep introducing new unpleasant characters? Hannah & Gavin don’t add much, I’d far rather hear how Chris’s potential move to Newmarket is going and how Ruardih (sp) is getting on at college.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2020 07:59

Hope your son gets good news this morning, @DadDadDad Grin

As to last night's episode, I can only say, quel bordel de merde.

Motoko · 14/01/2020 08:17

Checking in, thanks for new thread Gasp0de.

Fingers crossed DDD.

I thought the wardrobe was an odd place to keep a laptop, and wondered if Gav was looking for something else.

I also thought it odd, that an executive new build, didn't have a "Family Bathroom", with the only bath being in the en-suite. I have seen houses with a bath in a large en-suite, but they also generally have another bathroom, with bath and shower for the rest of the household.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2020 08:44

It occurs to me that the poor actor playing Philip must greet each new script where he doesn't die, with a huge sigh of relief!

LillianGish · 14/01/2020 08:58

Bravo Gaspode (another B for you). I did wonder if that ridiculous contrivance in Kirsty’s bedroom (I actually thought Alistair was at the health club to start with - I see you’ve brought your own towel - a much more sensible and likely place to go when the water’s off) was to throw us off the scent with Natasha’s absences. Could she be playing away just as Tom has decided to up his level of devotion? Incidentally I do think that Alistair, as Philip’s friend, would definitely fill him in on how out of order Gavin was - despite Kirsty’s instruction not to breath a word. That was an extraordinary scene - even if Alistair had not been in the bath - Gavin letting himself in to their home while Kirsty was out and snooping around the bedroom.

MollyButton · 14/01/2020 09:46

Of course the other possible way this could go is for Kirsty to "accidentally" get pregnant. Philip would suddenly become a doting Dad. And Gavin would totally throw his dummy from the pram (and be cut out of the inheritance).
Even better if it meant Kirsty couldn't fly to Bali.

DoctorTwo · 14/01/2020 09:52

Ahhh, the joy of a shiny new thread, thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g. That Gavin is slimier than a fresh turd, I hope he gets his comeuppance.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2020 09:57

I'm sorry, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g, I keep forgetting to thank you for the beyewtiful, brand-new thread! I'm so incensed by the garbage that was last night's episode, I'm forgetting my manners Grin

Madcats · 14/01/2020 10:03

Keeping my fingers crossed for mini DDD.

I wonder where Jazzer is going to go for his bath/shower? Wouldn't a 'farm animals mostly' vet have a shower at the surgery?

Why have the builders had to turn the water off for hours/days anyway? When we ripped the back off our house to put in an extension/bathroom/kitchen we were only without water for an hour or so while they rigged up a temporary kitchen and again when they connected the new boiler and new drains. Jim is just getting an extra bedroom and a radiator, I imagine.

Where's that intern?

Thanks for the new thread Gasp0de

I’m wondering just how many apple trees Batasha intends to prune (in a day?) if she has an orchard big enough to produce fruit to yield juice for a thriving business. It’s hardly something she’d just keep putting off and ‘mean to get round to’. A commercial orchard would need careful tending to ensure a continued crop, surely.

It also needs some skill to prune fruit trees correctly - are we now being told that she’s an expert? I thought she just switched from make-up to fruit-juice because she spotted a better business opportunity?
