Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Joy's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for all the input on title suggestions. I'd missed the significance of 111, but @R4 and DDD, our resident numerologist, were right on to it. Strongly tempted by Bore's suggestion but couldn't resist the chance to mention my favourite ever Archers character, Nelson Gabriel. Have not managed to incorporate a cricket reference, so you'll have to read up on that for yourselves. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_(cricket)

I wonder if this thread will last till Joe's funeral.

I may have drunk too much M&S Oloroso, so my comprehension may not be quite ...

Taswama · 10/11/2019 19:17

We had goose instead of turkey two Christmases ago, not a coincidence.

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2019 19:29

Oh ffs- he hasn’t told Mia they’ve moved! And why aren’t Mia and Jake seeing their little sister?

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2019 19:30

I mean- Mia was looking af

CodenameVillanelle · 10/11/2019 19:33

Here you are! I lost you.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/11/2019 19:36

but there are loads of other models. I knew someone who claimed to be a non-stipendiary vicar - he described it as being sent to carry God into the workplace.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/11/2019 19:37

We had goose instead of turkey two Christmases ago, not a coincidence. I accepted my supermarket's free offer of a bottle of kefir.

inkysplatter · 10/11/2019 20:50

I started making my own kefir

Coffeeandchocolate10 · 10/11/2019 21:39

I now drink tumble tussock

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 10/11/2019 22:45

I send my cat with message for the neighbours.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2019 22:46

If someone says 'let me just explain...' I never let them until at least two days later.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2019 22:47

And of course, I always greet neighbours etc by their full name.

TheSilveryPussycat · 10/11/2019 22:56

Speaking of which, in Friday's episode everyone was calling each other by their first name.

Texelcowboy · 11/11/2019 04:58

I've got a cereal cupboard that makes life so much quieter. Single parenting's a doddle. Time consuming friendships, irksome rellies, sorted.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/11/2019 06:57

I've strongly encouraged all the young women I know to do well at school and go on to university. I've then strongly encouraged them all to come back to live in our tiny village and do any old job they can get, regardless of whether they're using their skills or not.

BertrandRussell · 11/11/2019 07:00

I hope you haven’t encouraged them to go any further than Felpersham- only wierdos from broken homes seeking validation ever do that.....

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/11/2019 08:00

Good grief, Bertrand, what sort of sadist would I be to encourage a young woman to leave Borsetshire! Shock

HeronLanyon · 11/11/2019 08:32

I personally make sure all young women if my acquaintance are fully informed as to the complete lack of opportunity outside Borsetshire. I hate to see them throw their lives away by ill advised moves to eg Birmingham or Manchester or London or Glasgow or even worse Abroad (unless you go to a Hungarian pig shed obviously) etc (the list of these awful dead end places could go on but it is such depressing reading).

HelloYouTwo · 11/11/2019 08:46

If someone clearly wants to tell me something really important I repeatedly cut them off with my own trivial conversation and then leave the room.

chemenger · 11/11/2019 08:47

I’ve just listened to Sunday’s episode. I thought it was very well done, Jim’s chat with Will was very much in character for both of them. The Grundy party also rang true for me. I do feel that there is a tying up of loose ends going on. I hope Alf isn’t a permanent fixture though.

HelloYouTwo · 11/11/2019 08:50

I used to ring my friends neighbours or family if I needed to talk to them but now I make sure to walk over to their house or workplace in the middle of the day and interrupt them at work to have that chat instead.

Fink · 11/11/2019 09:10

I frequently make portentous statements signposting what is about to happen only for it not to happen. For example, I recently left a large pot of money lying around in the presence of a known petty criminal, advertised this fact to him. And then it was presumably still there when needed as I never mentioned it again.

Madcats · 11/11/2019 09:12

Further up thread there was a discussion about the vicar storyline. I was awake stupidly early this morning so caught the "on this day" slot. Apparently the general synod finally approved the ordination of women as priests in November '92. This year is also the 25th anniversary of the first ordination. So scriptwriters went a bit "niche topical".

Can Alf go away now...PLEASE.

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2019 09:13

If you move to the other side of the world, family visits will result in a half-sibling or bereavement.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/11/2019 09:55

I buck the national trend on greeting card sales by keeping a birthday book with the names and birthdays of everyone in my tiny community and I hand deliver every single one of them a card on the big day, usually during working hours, with the traditional birthday greeting of 'Sorry it's only a card'. Then I leave them to get on with their extended family tea party. It's not a birthday without a tea party, after all. All employers in the area know this and give their employees time off to attend said parties.
