Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to LillianGish for the title idea. Very tempted to go with MrsGrindah's suggestion of It’s all a bit crap and boring at the moment but let's be positive, maybe things will look up in the coming days ... Hmm Also very taken with Lexi's Midnight Runners - Burpers, maybe? - from Madcats.

Not at all happy about Lily not going to university. Yet another bright Ambridge woman not fulfilling her potential. Why do they do this?

Well, I quite enjoyed that episode. Some clearing of the air and an excellent dressing down from David. I think Lillian may be single again soon.

R4 · 05/10/2019 08:36

I didn't! Lexi doing her usual moral-superiority thing and David getting annoyed at Justin for not being the Saviour of Borsetshire Farmers.
I so wanted Justin to ask David where David's bid was. Who lazily decided that it was up to non-farmer Justin to save them from Casey?

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2019 08:52

There was an article about Ambridge food in the Waitrose Weekend paper.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2019 08:55

It was slightly better yesterday, nice to hear Ruth and Pip doing normal mum and daughter things at the possible nursery for Rosie. Justin has always been a shit and Lilian has always stood for it with a weak protest. Though good that she refused to put Amside money in his bid for the abbatoir. Also good to know it's HER money.

QuaterMiss · 05/10/2019 09:02

I can’t see Lilian leaving Justin. She is, as she said, stupidly loyal to men. She’ll just put up with the inevitable hostility towards him and spend more time with her mother and sister.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2019 10:04

That is a picture of the previous Pip, isn't it. You'd think the BBC at least might keep track of all the hirings and firings among the Archers cast.

You'd think

This is the current annoyance:

ADarkandStormyKnight · 05/10/2019 10:38

I really enjoyed David laying in to Justin.

Agree re Lilian. Neither she or Jenny have particuarly high expectations of men and have both chosen men who provide them with social and economic status at a price. They will always have each other to complain to.

inkysplatter · 05/10/2019 12:12

I'm so behind with thread and episodes so apologies if I'm repeating ideas but, I can't believe a story where Justin, the boss listens to his junior female employee over his error prone manager (not how I see Neil really, but...)
That's not how business usually works. Exasperating managers get all the benefit of the doubt and outspoken juniors, whether well intentioned or toxic get squashed. Such rubbish.

inkysplatter · 05/10/2019 12:13

Also BBC sounds is a travesty. I want my radio app back!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 05/10/2019 12:50

Do you suppose Justin is destined to become the J R Ewing of Borsetshire?

If the scriptwriters continue in this present 'soap style' vein, I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

It will probably be the Christmas Day cliff-hanger.

Who Shot Justin Elliott?

Tonnerre · 05/10/2019 13:04

I wouldn't put it past the scriptwriters to send him to hospital before Adam and Ian have parental responsibility.

Surely Adam already has parental responsibility?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/10/2019 13:07

You're so right, inkysplatter, I can't be bothered to catch up with TA this week as the Sounds app, which has unilaterally taken over from the radio iPlayer without my requesting it, makes it so difficult I've lost interest by the time I finally make it to the episode I want to hear.

DadDadDad · 05/10/2019 14:38

David getting annoyed at Justin for not being the Saviour of Borsetshire Farmers.

I think that's a bit harsh, R4. Of course, it would be foolish to see someone as a saviour, but Justin was quite aware that he was letting David make assumptions, and let David, Brian etc be supportive of his bid - we heard enough conversations with Lillian to be sure Justin was aware that he was being deceptive. If the farmers had known his true intentions, they could organised their own bid.

I think David was justified in being angry about the deception.

chemenger · 05/10/2019 14:51

The farmers couldn't raise enough funding without Borsetshire land joining in and they decided not to. Justin got his idea to to buy the abattoir at that meeting (did he vote against Borsetshire Land backing the farmers' consortium in order to get a chance to buy it himself)? At least I think that's right, happy to be corrected.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2019 14:54

Yes Dad were you not surprised at the times Justin's dishonesty was UNDERLINED by the SWs ? Who do they think are listening? A whole swathe of newbies who aren't aware of the old storylines?

It's as if all of the faithful old types are being airbrushed out of their audience, We should boycott it, or at least e mail en masse, the new series of Feed Back starts next week.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/10/2019 15:29

inkysplatter

There are a few of us on the support thread. I've swtiched over to Radioplayer UK and Apple podcast software for now as I find Sounds loathsome to use.

Tonnerre · 05/10/2019 15:41

I don't have a problem finding TA on My Sounds. I just subscribed to it and it's a couple of clicks.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2019 16:52

David was pretty clear that they would have tried to raise the funding between them if Justin had not given them to understand that he was stepping in to save the slaughterhouse. He felt betrayed because they had been conned into supporting Justin's bid. I don;t suppose Brian is going to be delighted either; Justin seems to have flat-out lied to him about what his plans were, after vetoing Borchester Land getting involved.

R4 · 05/10/2019 18:20

Yes Dad were you not surprised at the times Justin's dishonesty was UNDERLINED by the SWs ? Who do they think are listening? A whole swathe of newbies who aren't aware of the old storylines?
Well David certainly seems unawares of how duplicious Justin is.Grin

What happened to the Beechwood money that Bridge Farm never never put into the cookery school idea? Isn't that still looking for an investment opportunity.

Motoko · 05/10/2019 20:47

And the ten grand that David got back from Kenton/Jill.

LillianGish · 05/10/2019 21:20

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but just back from watching the Downton Abbey Film and couldn't help noticing Harrison Burns in the boiler man role. Unmistakable tones and unusually I didn't for a second mistake him for the vicar.

Taswama · 05/10/2019 22:01

I don’t usually like seeing cast pictures, as they are never quite how they look in your head, but newPip looks EXACTLY right in my opinion. A certain air of superiority about her!
