Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to LillianGish for the title idea. Very tempted to go with MrsGrindah's suggestion of It’s all a bit crap and boring at the moment but let's be positive, maybe things will look up in the coming days ... Hmm Also very taken with Lexi's Midnight Runners - Burpers, maybe? - from Madcats.

Not at all happy about Lily not going to university. Yet another bright Ambridge woman not fulfilling her potential. Why do they do this?

“I was convinced it was Oriel. I heard it with my own ears”

Well, oriel evidence is good enough for me.....

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2019 14:39

Oh hah ha ha Bert Good one Halloween Grin

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2019 14:53

I'm a bit magdalen now.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 22/10/2019 16:00

Christ, church for (T)Eddie Hall, they should be so Brasenose to find St Hilda's hiding place.

Taswama · 22/10/2019 16:06

Whoever heard of a wake in a tea room?
I did rather enjoy Ed asking Alf for his £20 back and Clarrie realising why Alf has been able to return her money.

QuaterMiss · 22/10/2019 16:18

All you need is the caius to the Gin cabinet, MUM.

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2019 17:54

Jesus, Wadham I on?

DadDadDad · 22/10/2019 18:53

Ooh, just turned up to find I'm late for a pun-off. Gordon St Benet's, how did I miss that? I've got a few more but I'll Keble of them to myself for now.

(Psst! Quater, Caius isn't an Oxford college, just to be Clare).

QuaterMiss · 22/10/2019 19:05

I know ...

(It’s my anti-exclusionary drive.)

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2019 19:11

Somerville-ified for less.

QuaterMiss · 22/10/2019 19:14

Right.

Either:

Joy is a witch.

Or:

The SW is on drugs.

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2019 19:16

How do you do a Lincoln here? Not that I am New.

DadDadDad · 22/10/2019 19:53

"And over on 4 Extra, a new spin-off series, Archers Animals , where Ruby accepts her mission from Joy and goes on a quest to find Hilda..."

echt · 22/10/2019 20:23

Thinking of the least episode, I thought I detected a tiny note of hope in Tony's voice when he enquired as to whether Hilda had been flattened on the road.

TheSilveryPussycat · 22/10/2019 21:45

This talking to animals is A Thing - can't remember details but I was on t'interweb and came across it, linked to an interestingly barmy book.

MissBarbary · 22/10/2019 22:01

Joy has to go. What on earth is the point?

chemenger · 22/10/2019 23:16

SW - how’s the Mumsnet research going young intern?

NI - baffling. They seem to talk in some sort of code. One of them has a brace on their nose or something. They’re very interested in windows too, does anyone in Abridge have an oriel window, they’re having a big debate about that. Quite a lot of religious chat too, they seem interested in the life of saints. Maybe if there was a religious character you could make more of that, I think it would be popular.

SW - We had been resting Shula, but it is probably time to have her back...

NI - and they really hate Joy. That much is very clear. I wonder if you should kill her.

SW - it’s a little early in the day to be suggesting killing off well loved characters I think, young person.

NI - My mum doesn’t like her either.

SW - Everyone loves a comedy character. Have you, by the way, written the Christmas play for Lower Loxley yet? You were very keen on it before.

NI - I don’t think I’ve every heard of it.

SW2 - I think that was the other intern, you know, that young person who decided university was more important than doing their job here.

SW - They all look the same to me.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/10/2019 08:14

This thread's filling up fast - any ideas for the next thread title? I could start it later today or early tomorrow, as required.

Enjoyed the college puns earlier - I feel they added Merton to the thread. Grin

Perhaps Joy will be mauled to death by an enraged mob of Ambridge pets, led by Eccles the Immortal Peacock.

I have been struggling to come up with a thread title honouring the fact that this is Thread 111 (wiki, for non-cricketers) and Monday was Trafalgar Day. The best I have is:
The Archers 111: Let's find Hilda and turn a blind eye to Joy because "we have lost more than we have gained."

ppeatfruit · 23/10/2019 08:59

I like them both, maybe add some of Dad's brilliant idea about 4X broadcasting a TA spin off the subject being the mission for our furry friends

QuaterMiss · 23/10/2019 09:03

I thought I had one

The Archers, Thread #111: Log it with the police ...

UntiI realised I was mixing it up with 101. Hmm And I couldn’t think of anything for the NHS non-emergency number ...

DadDadDad · 23/10/2019 11:54

I'm loving all the playing with 111, especially as I once discovered that my oldest (surviving) post on MN, was made at 11:11pm on 10/11/11. (Yes, it wasn't planned, and I should have waited a day).

I even started a thread about it..
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3376839-Longest-serving-username-PLUS-freaky-numerological-coincidence

5 threads from now we'll reach the 111,111th post so I'll keep an eye out for it next year.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2019 12:39

Thread 111: Is Hilda conscious and breathing, or is she Shrodinger's cat?

MikeUniformMike · 23/10/2019 12:53

Good to see that the New Intern is back. Thanks chemenger.

R4 · 23/10/2019 13:22

Thread 111: Peggy needs to case her joint to find her cat; David needs Casey to joint his meat.
