Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to LillianGish for the title idea. Very tempted to go with MrsGrindah's suggestion of It’s all a bit crap and boring at the moment but let's be positive, maybe things will look up in the coming days ... Hmm Also very taken with Lexi's Midnight Runners - Burpers, maybe? - from Madcats.

Not at all happy about Lily not going to university. Yet another bright Ambridge woman not fulfilling her potential. Why do they do this?

R4 you called?

Vince Casey isn't bothering me half as much as Justin. God he's horrible. And I'm so sick of Lillian, she's not even entertaining any more, just cringeworthy.

And as for Hannah? When she was laughing at Neil? Good God! It's fairly inevitable that his days at Berrow are numbered - I'd love him to resign with his integrity intact!

Abraid2 · 04/10/2019 14:44

I keep mishearing Vince Casey as Vince Cable and confusing myself.

UnholyStramash · 04/10/2019 14:49

Some of this might be wrong - I do occasionally dream about TA and then have trouble remembering what’s real and what’s real IYSWIM. Blush Wasn’t the fundraiser for the ITU in Felpersham? Or maybe it was Borcester? Some big hospital anyway. Now this where I’m really vague as it was some peripheral character who had a relation (? a nephew) whose life was saved there. I cannot think who the character was. Maybe Timotei or Maurice but that doesn’t feel right? Anyway Willyum was his usual churlish self though in this instance understandable as they didn’t save Nic innit? I wish I could remember more ...

UnholyStramash · 04/10/2019 14:51

Actually it wasn’t ITU, but High Dependency Unit as I recall a discussion somewhere else about the difference.

birdsdestiny · 04/10/2019 14:54

It was definetely put in for a reason, I suppose it depends whether they can remember what that reason was.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 15:04

I’ve just remembered, Rosie was born on Flower and Produce day..

chemenger · 04/10/2019 16:29

EBearhug John Madejski Academy is not, in fact, the "nice school in Berkshire" I had in mind Smile

TheOliphantintheRoom · 04/10/2019 16:42

And two Josephs? I wouldn't put it past them

Grin Like many others, I only keep listening to TA for the gems on this thread!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2019 16:57

Was the Borchester Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit Appeal the occasion? Because that was what got Will and Mia at loggerheads: she wanted Nic's name to be associated with the Ambridge effort and he didn't, or something.

EBearhug · 04/10/2019 18:31

John Madejski Academy is not, in fact, the "nice school in Berkshire" I had in mind

Well, I am surprised. ;-)

I’m beginning to enjoy the Phoebes’s results question. I can see it becoming a regular thing for the next 50 years ...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/10/2019 19:14

I'm clearly not paying enough attention as I can't remember a charity event recently. Was the thing associated with the HDU or ITU a Lent appeal? That rings a very distant bell.

MrsGrindah · 04/10/2019 19:14

@DadDadDad doesn't the whole saga start every year with them saying there will be no Christmas play?

Yes, it's like the Monty Python sketch were no-one mentions the Spanish Inquisition

Bloody brilliant

MrsGrindah · 04/10/2019 19:15

Honestly I find this thread far more entertaining that the actual show!

Madcats · 04/10/2019 19:38

I would love to do a "led by donkeys" style poster campaign or 100 near BBC Birmingham to get characters back on track.

Or some "missing personalities" (gone missing) ones clipped to nearby lampposts.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/10/2019 19:43

Has anyone caught the new Rachel's Organic "Rebellion" ad? Couldn't swear to it but the voice over actress sounds very like Gnasher. Better ears than mine will be able to tell.

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2019 19:52

I thought it was Batasha too.

Taswama · 04/10/2019 20:41

Very true @MrsGrindah - never mind The Grundies, I come here for a bit of light relief!

FannyCann · 04/10/2019 22:14

I’m beginning to enjoy the Phoebes’s results question. I can see it becoming a regular thing for the next 50 years ...

In about 30 years time Phoebe will be pottering around the village, married to some farmer, and writing occasional blog pieces for the local newspaper and running the Ambridge village magazine and website, reminding people she got a 2:1 at Oxford and is perfectly qualified for this onerous task.

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 04/10/2019 23:37

I hadn't heard the Rachel's Organic ad so I just looked it up - it certainly does sound like Mali Harries.

Amusingly, I see the ad was produced by a company called Archer's Mark

I tend to listen to TA on iplayer (now the ghastly Sounds app) when I'm getting ready for bed. I may have to stop - yet more trumped up interpersonal strife in yet another storyline for absolutely no bloody reason but drahhhhhma could put my blood pressure at risk.

That series currently has more loose ends than a bowl of spaghetti.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/10/2019 08:11

hah - as I sit here listening to R4 I'm hearing about a soothing TA soundscape to fill the Saturday Archer gap. Apparently to boost uptake of the unpopular Sounds app.

I might well get the soundscape to listen to instead of TA Grin

QuaterMiss · 05/10/2019 08:12

R4 Today is talking about a Soundscape of TA being available as a podcast.

I have to say I didn’t understand a word of the very short article - really just a plug for a podcast, not ‘news’.

#Toooldforthisworld ...

I listen to the Archers on the podcast with my morning coffee in bed. This morning I accidentally started the birdsong recording “eavesdrop at Marnies Farm” which the cat was very interested in!
