Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to @MrsGrindah for inspiration for the title of this thread. I was hoping to find a way to combine it with @C8H10N4O2's inspired suggestion of '"The Assumption of the Ambridge Angel' and @chemenger's comment 'I hope she gets kicked in the head by a horse and wakes up an atheist', but it all got a bit too lengthy.

Odds on Joe shuffling off this mortal coil before this thread ends? We've been marking/anticipating his passing for a while now.

I am struggling to think of a nice one, at the moment.

kesie123 · 27/07/2019 00:17

Their mortgage would have been agreed long before this so Ed loosing his job would now be irrelevant surely - another stupid SL.

LassOfFyvie · 27/07/2019 00:42

How are they going to pay it? Where is Ed going to get another job? It's going to be obvious at job interviews that he was sacked.

kesie123 · 27/07/2019 00:48

Agree that they will in the end probably default on the mortgage but they still have it so can move into their house for now.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/07/2019 07:32

Not much point in moving in if they're going to have to move out again within the year. The shame will kill Emma. I wonder if Oliver might step in?

We all knew something like that was coming, but oh my word, that was tough listening.

Isatis · 27/07/2019 08:33

I do hope we're not going to have Emmur going into whiny victim mode again. This one is totally down to decisions both she and Ed have made.

BertrandRussell · 27/07/2019 08:52

For the first time in recent Archers history, a manager makes a proper management decision. Well done Adam- but bloody hell, poor Ed.

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 27/07/2019 09:16

Gruesome and really hard to hear.

But not as hard as when he has to tell Emma....

Not sure I'll be able to listen to that, quite honestly.

BertrandRussell · 27/07/2019 09:22

I do have to say it’s rough that the SWs have chosen this particular storyline to be realistic. Let’s slam the working class characters, while apparently Lower Locksley is happily back to its profitable prime 3 and a half seconds after getting its licence back.

LassOfFyvie · 27/07/2019 09:40

while apparently Lower Locksley is happily back to its profitable prime 3 and a half seconds after getting its licence back

Is it? Have I missed something? When did it get its licence back?

BertrandRussell · 27/07/2019 09:57

I’m sure I heard someone say to Shula they had their licence back- did I imagine that?

QuaterMiss · 27/07/2019 09:59

I didn’t think I could bear Freddie’s incarceration ...

But this. It’s too hard. Just think of Ed - I was going to say waking up to this, but of course he wouldn’t have slept. Oh, it’s horrible.

Madcats · 27/07/2019 10:00

I need to catch up on the past fortnight's omnibuses, but caught last night's. I do wish the scriptwriters would cut Ed some slack!

How many gallons of weedkiller is Ed now hiding? Couldn't he just drive over to the 3 or 4 nearest council recycling centres in the county and pop it with the paints/oil? Yes, he might need to use Emmur's car rather than his van.

C8H10N4O2 · 27/07/2019 10:08

When did it get its licence back?

It was mentioned by StS just before she launched into her "All About My Vocation" monologue to Lizzie. I zoned out of that as well but did catch the comment about the licence.

It sounded like they only just have it back so doubt they have recovered much business yet.

Mabelchiltern1 · 27/07/2019 10:10

Tim is the baddie... like I said months ago Ed should tell PC Harrison. I can’t bear it for Ed.... let’s crowdfund him! Oh just remembered this is not real. Blush

C8H10N4O2 · 27/07/2019 10:11

Will was stupid to go to have it out with Ed at Home Farm but on the other hand Ed was bloody stupid ever to get involved in illegal pesticides.

If I had heard that my kids had been put at risk by someone's stupid, illegal doings I'd be very angry as well.

Yes Emma did encourage Ed but he let her think it was no more than a bit of VAT avoidance which plenty of TA listeners will regard as "victimless" crime (like dodgy claims on house insurance). She never knew anything of the reality and doesn't know about the chemicals stored in the barn.

This is down to Ed.

BertrandRussell · 27/07/2019 10:17

“It sounded like they only just have it back so doubt they have recovered much business yet.”

This is the Archers, remember!

C8H10N4O2 · 27/07/2019 10:20

This is the Archers, remember!

Good point. Next week will be the tale of the groom's mother at the 500 guest wedding Grin

EBearhug · 27/07/2019 10:22

Yes, there was a brief mention of LL finally getting it's licence back, possibly at Rosie's party, also with reference to Freddie being at the stables and thus making it possible, and all that's now needed is for him to find a job.

I think Willis reasonable in feeling anger. I don't think he was reasonable in how and when he expressed it. And the real issue is Timotei, and what I really want is for him to go down (and take Martyn Gibson with him, not Ed.)

DoctorTwo · 27/07/2019 11:51

I felt for Ed but understand why Adam had to sack him.

orangeshoebox · 27/07/2019 12:00

can't willned hide the barrel(s) in tim's garage and then call the police?

LassOfFyvie · 27/07/2019 12:05

Adam had no choice (although strictly speaking Adam did not follow the correct process for dismissal even in such extraordinary circumstances)

Will's timing and choice of location was a disaster but he was right about Ed's culpability and stupidity.

It's a horrible storyline. Will and , probably , Adam are going to be vilified. It will create irretrievable grievances and feuds in and between the Grundy, Archer and Carter families.

Kayemm · 27/07/2019 13:37

Hi. I've just returned to Ambridge after a 15 year absence. Feels like I've never been away. The only plot line I'm not fully with is why Eddie and Clarrie are moving. Can someone enlighten me please?

Abraid2 · 27/07/2019 13:52

They can’t afford the rent if emma and Ed don’t house-share with them.

But that might change now...

QuaterMiss · 27/07/2019 13:54

Oh ... that’s another thing that will be up in the air. Kayemm they are due to move out of Grange Farm because Eddie and Clarrie (+ Joe) wouldn’t be able to afford the rent once Ed and Emma move into the home they are buying on the new estate.

But now that purchase looks doubtful ...
