Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to @MrsGrindah for inspiration for the title of this thread. I was hoping to find a way to combine it with @C8H10N4O2's inspired suggestion of '"The Assumption of the Ambridge Angel' and @chemenger's comment 'I hope she gets kicked in the head by a horse and wakes up an atheist', but it all got a bit too lengthy.

Odds on Joe shuffling off this mortal coil before this thread ends? We've been marking/anticipating his passing for a while now.

It did seem as if the SW was having fun with us ...

DadDadDad · 06/08/2019 17:42

we've built a huge castle in the air from a cricked neck!

Yes - how about turning to my question about Kate and Jakob at 14:48 that everyone's ignored? Sad

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/08/2019 18:22

DDD, I doubt it's the end of that story but I wish it was. I don't take to Jakob but nobody deserves to end up with Kate.

OP posts:
R4 · 06/08/2019 18:50

So, is that the end of that whole story?
Hopefully. Was it just inserted to be "light relief"Hmm from the MeandEd miseryfest?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/08/2019 20:59

I am worried that Kirsty is going to have trouble with Gavin....

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2019 08:54

Dx3 I get ignored all the time don't worry about it. Grin I will mention that Kate' did not use rosemary ess. oil on Jacob's neck which is the go to herb for most stiff backs and necks (I study herbalism and aromatherapy) and use it too.

Is she so naive that she doesn't realise how suggestive the use of the term 'special services' is in a massage context? DUH

LizziesTwin · 07/08/2019 09:38

Two Archers Academics are speaking at the www.chiswickbookfestival.net on Saturday 14 September.

Tickets are £8 and it’s 5-10 minutes walk from Turnham Green Tube station, on the district line. There’s a cookery book festival taking place at the same time.

"The hard-on right of women to play cricket"
Shock
I presume that is a typo!

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 07/08/2019 10:00

I seem to remember a bit of a hoo hah when Kirsty first met Phillips son.

Something about him being very rude to a waiter? I think there was a hint of it being racial as they were in an Indian restaurant.

FiveShelties · 07/08/2019 11:25

@R4 - I just love that clip - too funnyGrin

Fink · 07/08/2019 11:38

Yes, I vaguely remember that excruciating double date Canoe. Wasn't Gavin about the same age as Kirsty, which made it worse?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/08/2019 11:50

And then he got in touch with her by phone and suggested they go out to somewhere he had chosen, or some such, which left me wondering how he got her phone number.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 07/08/2019 14:08

So who is moving into Grange Farm... Adridges?

QuaterMiss · 07/08/2019 14:14

Who knows!

Too annoyed at Ed initially rejecting the job his father suggested, because “it’s not exactly farming”. He is more than a bit of an idiot. (Poor man ...)

However. It is always amazing to hear how supportive Eddie and Clarrie are as parents.

TeenTimesTwo · 07/08/2019 14:20

I can't listen any more as I keep having to turn it off as my stress levels go through the roof too fast. Could someone do a quick summary of important plot points for me?

Is this right?
Ed lost his job (due to the shady work), so has now lost the new house, and he and Emma have split.
Everyone is bidding for Peggy's money.
Joe Grundy still with us, but family moving soon into #1 The Green.
The Prof still struggling with what happened as a boy.

Anything else important?

Eastie77 · 07/08/2019 15:14

Eddie and Clarrie are supportive but reading Ed the riot act every now and again wouldn't go amiss. They always seem to pander to him and it seems he can't do any wrong in Clarrie's eyes.

I also found the fact they kept repeating "your children need their father" annoying. George is not his child! No wonder Will is so bitter.

TeenTimesTwo · 07/08/2019 15:36

Any news from Freddie or Lily 'n Russ recently? I don't care so much about them. Or Tom & Natasha? Or Pip?

I know Ed & Emma have their giant flaws, but neither of them is afraid of hard work, and they care about their kids, and I'd have so liked it all to work out for them.

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2019 16:04

Teen Well you may not define the fact that Shula has decided to become a vicar as important. Pip has been in it on and off recently. Not in a proper plot line though, her baby has had her Ist birhday party including a live unicorn!

Oh Lizzie's got her licence back now.

TeenTimesTwo · 07/08/2019 16:09

I'd missed about Shula, so thank you.
And the LL license. Good to know.
Live unicorn?? Did they paint one of Shula's horses?

InMyLivingRoom · 07/08/2019 16:18

@TeenTimesTwo I can't bring myself to listen either because Tim/Ed storyline (not sure why it upsets me so much!). Has that threat gone yet? Has Ed stopped working for him or still doing it?

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2019 16:27

Well Ed now knows that there are the shady pesticides in his barn, and has said that he'll do something about it. Though we don't know what he intends.

You knew that Ed has lost his job with Adam because Will told him about the problem with Tim who tried to sell the pesticides to him? Tim has disappeared at the moment.

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2019 16:31

Sorry I meant Eddie now knows.

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2019 16:35

Toby obviously paid a great deal of money to have 'entertainment' at Rosie's party in the barn and it included a special, decorated as a unicorn, pony! For a one year old! She liked it !
