Zoe Ball on Radio 2

I haven’t heard a lot so apologies if my perceptions seem wrong.. When I’ve heard her, she reminds me of a contestant on Just a Minute: she has to unnaturally stretch some of her words and comments to fill the time she has. I’ve also never heard her say a word of anything she appears to have thought herself. She laughs, she introduces guests and asks them questions, but nothing seems to come from her.
She reminds me of Ant and Dec: proficient in their field but of no more interest than that.

I quite like Sara Cox for the fact that you get a sense of her.

All of the above said, I can’t deny that it’s admirable for anyone to hold together a programme professionally and obviously that’s a skill she has.

I’d love to know if anyone disagrees with me.

I have no beef with Zoe Ball but agree she's just pretty dull in this slot. Show and Tell is absolutely torturous.

I also find the constant fawning cliquey trailers between Zoe and Sara's shows annoying.

Love Ken Bruce and Rylan. And Graham Norton.

I don't often catch the show and tell slot, but when I have, I've noticed a slight difference with the kids on there and the ones who would go on Chris Evans. There was a little boy with dyslexia who did some spelling, and other kids who found thing difficult doing things, whereas CE always had 'Tarquin is doing hus grade 8 piano' type kids on. As I said, I may be wrong as I don't listen at that time very often but I get the impression it was a bit less showy offy. Still mostly I couldn't care less about other people's kids and their 'talents' on the whole!

I'm in my 40s. Always used to listen to radio 2 when I was a SAHM and carried on when i went back to work. I used to enjoy Chris Evan's until he started promoting Carfest. Suddenly every word was car this car that and I turned off.

I moved to radio 6 and really enjoy it. I'm listening to new bands I hadn't heard of before and one of the presenters in the morning brings on interesting people to talk about science in a very accessible way. I didn't think I would like it after Shaun K's slot moved but I do.

I dip back into radio 2 now and again but just don't enjoy it.

Yes, I think it was carfest that did it for me. And also constantly having his kids on. He just started to turn (back) into a self centred prick. Just like the 90s-retro

Every time I listen to CE it just seems to be men chatting. I find that irritating. I can’t stand James Martin for the same reason.

I followed CE to Virgin as well, after trying to like ZB. I actually liked her Saturday afternoon slot but not the Breakfast show. He used to really annoy me but after listening to the alternative I'd rather put up with him.

Sarah cox's call in segments and horrific. Phrased and confused...whoever thought of that needs sacking.

Zoe is about a million times better than Chris Evans, but TBF that’s not saying much. I think she’s doing ok, she seems to get good guests at least. She still does the gushing, stuttering thing though, very annoying. I know it’s not nice to criticise someone for The way they speak, but that IS her job.

Sarah on the other hand - I had high hopes for her and I like her, but I think her drive time show is awful. It’s so boring. I so miss Simon Mayo and all his regular features and interesting guests.

Switched to 6 music when Chris replaced Terry. Absolutely loved Sean Keavney but Lauren Lavern is growing on me.
I don't think I'll be returning to Radio 2 any time soon judging by what's been written here.

I've followed Chris to virgin, although it slightly bugs me they only ever seem to promote TV shows that I can't watch as I haven't got sky (I know its because of the sponsorship) but I put up with it because I can't stand Zoe on the radio. I really tried to like it but don't.
I also tried to like Sarah as I used to like it when she covered for Chris but I miss Simon too much.

I now listen to virgin on the way to work and alternate between virgin and absolute radio on the way home depending on the time.

radio 2 is desperate now. The music is all 80s - they have definitely changed the playlist and althogh the 80s is when I grew up, its not what I want to listen to!

And Trevor Nelson every ffin night...no. ( I liked his Saturday evening show, but not every night!!!)

And the dreadful Karaoke they put out now on Friday Night is Music Night. I dont want to listen to a 2 hour tribute act to Queen/ Stevie Wonder/ Barry Manilow or whoever....

I'm trying to find a new station...I find I'm listening to Radio Scotland now most. There are some good evening music programmes.

ps - didn't actually reply to the OP's point re Zoe Ball.

OP, I agree. Its a dreadful show. Can't stand all the gushing, even in the trailers. yughhh.

Sarah's show is Dull and Confused, whenever I catch any of it. And loads of Gushing there too.

I'm with you, the breakfast show is rubbish now with Zoe Ball, I can't quite put my finger on why. Chris Evans was so self centred, it all revolved around him or his wife and kids. The children in need week he did was ridiculous, the events he was pushing and expecting bids of £100k ffs.

I’ve switched to radio 1 or local radio for my journey to work in the morning and back to radio 2 for my journey home.
I do like Sara cox and really wanted her to do the breakfast show.. although with children it’s probably a nightmare to have done on a long term basis.
I have tried to listen to Chris on Virgin but my radio cuts out while listening to DAB channels for
some reason or id still be listen to Chris Moyles!

Best R2 show by far is Liza Tarbuck 6pm -8pm saturdays. Very funny. Eclectic music choice. I think she's also very good whenever she guest presents for one of the regulars.

Oh yes Craig Charles really like him too. I don't mind jo w and Liza tarbuck is good. Can't really stand Vanessa feltz.

Really expected to like Zoe, but really don't. I have the volume Judy high enough to hear the music but not her speaking. It's just a wall of uninteresting noise otherwise.

Really really expected to like Sarah's show, but I don't. It's bland. She was so good in the Breakfast Show when she stood in for CE. They should put her back there and have a rejigged drive time show.

I feel so much better knowing others hate the children's 'show and tell' slot aswell...thought I was just a miserable grouch. I used to love the Radio 2 breakfast show with Chris, but find myself constantly switching to Radio 1/Radio 4 now :(.

I cannot listen to ZB. Have tried but even the kids ask me to turn it off

I LOVED Sara on her 80s show she was hilarious and I like her when she fills in on the breakfast show but I’m not a natural listener at her new afternoon time so haven’t really been able to listen much. When I have she doesn’t feel like she has settled into it yet- not as relaxed as she normally is.

Pls give SC the breakfast show Radio 2.

I'm listening to Absolute, Planet Rock, Smooth, Classic and only listen to Radio 2 on Saturdays

Oh and the show and tell is EXCRUCIATING and for someone with kids herself ZB just cannot converse with them.

We listen to ZB and like her. CE became very male, my family and I’m at the peak of the mountain I’m the best ever and it made my skin crawl.

I don't have a problem with either Zoe or Sara's show to be fair. It on in the background from time to time at work.
Radio 2 isnt my go to station though as a rule though. I tend to listen to Planet Rock or Triple J unearthed.
