Well, there'll have to be (another) intervention. Will plainly isn't in a fit state to look after a small child. Or a teenage one. Or any one, probably.

LillianGish · 12/05/2019 09:42

I think all expertise should be welcome on this thread - the more obscure the better. One of things I love about it is that you can pose almost any question in relation to something thrown up by an Archers plot and someone will pop up to answer it. I think a bit of legal one-upmanship and educational stealth boasting is a small price to pay. DDD didn’t you once mention you went to Cambridge? Grin

MollyButton · 12/05/2019 09:44

First, it occurred to me (and probably Mia) that whilst all those water sports sounded great for the boys - unless there was a kids club it would be pretty rubbish for Poppy. So would Mia end up babysitting the whole time?

I have an Oxbridge degree, rarely mention it - unless I meet another Oxbridge graduate, when I tend to ask "which college" to break the ice. And I know some other Universities are far better for some subjects.

EBearhug · 12/05/2019 09:45

Surely he has annual leave in his contract and his employer must plan for someone with children to have time off in the summer?

He's got at least 28 days leave (including bank holidays) by law. I would assume if a gamekeeper has any restrictions around taking leave, it would be over winter, when it's open season for pheasants, and possibly around egg hatching time. But that's just an assumption.

BertrandRussell · 12/05/2019 09:56

If all the Oxbridge graduates on Mumsnet were put end to end.....

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 12/05/2019 09:56

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here, ppeatfruit, but what's a CM?

thislido · 12/05/2019 09:57

LilGstealth boasting”? Grin

thislido · 12/05/2019 09:59

CM = childminder.

BuckingFrolics · 12/05/2019 09:59

Will's (theoretical) camping trip "as a faaamly" would include Clarrie and Eddie and Will himself would arrive late and leave early. He's going to have so much to regret, in his later life.

ppeatfruit · 12/05/2019 10:00

Child Minder Where's Grin

HelloYouTwo · 12/05/2019 10:04

Will is just (and always has been) not very bright and is utterly emotionally illiterate to boot.

He doesn’t have time at work because he’s just laid off Pete. So has to do everything himself. His dark conspiracist theories about Pete trying to muscle in (rather than take the load off Will as was clearly the case) hint at a worse state of mind. I suspect he is heading for a complete breakdown / violent rampage.

HelloYouTwo · 12/05/2019 10:06

If all the Oxbridge graduates on Mumsnet were put end to end.....

Is that an I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue style quiz BertrandRussell?

If all the Oxbridge graduates on Mumsnet were put end to end..... they would be able to brown-nose all the better?

BertrandRussell · 12/05/2019 10:08

It’s what people used to say about pieces of the True Cross. If they were all put together it would make a cross 5 miles high! Grin

DadDadDad · 12/05/2019 10:23

Hmm, I just working out the practicalities. I suppose two Cambridge grads could lie head-to-head so they could discuss important questions such as which college they were at. Then they can go feet-to-feet with Oxford grads so they can also be head-to-head and discuss whatever those guys talk about.

Just heard on omnibus: "You know that's actually not such a bad idea". That cliché surely needs taking out and shooting by now.

First listen this week.
Oh Will. Poor Mia.

ThelilacsofParis · 12/05/2019 11:15

A bit of gentle flouncing or stealth-boasting is ok I think.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2019 11:27

Will and Emmur had a honeymoon in Acapulco IIRC. Mexico anyway. That's how Casa Nueva got it's name. Will and Nic went to Cape Verde, and renamed the house to Greenwood Cottage.

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 12/05/2019 11:27

I didn't go to either Oxford or Cambridge. Red-brick all the way

Is it really bad that when I only half-heard the episode with the ashes last week, I thought they were talking about Nigel's ashes?

😱😳😯😖😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

DadDadDad · 12/05/2019 11:31

But I wouldn't recommend stealth-flouncing.

HelloYouTwo
he’s just laid off Pete

That puzzles me. Will wasn't Pete's employer, so how come he was able to lay him off?

GabrielleNelson · 12/05/2019 11:37

I didn't go to Oxford or Cambridge either, for the record. Godless institution in Gower Street for me. Loved it. Nobody in TA ever goes to London to study. I wonder why not.

thislido · 12/05/2019 11:38

You put it down to only half listening, 5000, but might your rather lowly education have something to do with it?

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2019 12:09

Why on earth would they go to London when there's a perfectly decent uni on the doorstep?

GabrielleNelson · 12/05/2019 12:17

Well, obviously, Felpersham has just topped the world higher education league tables across the board for the 25th year in succession, MUM, but not everybody is lucky enough to get a place there. Grin
