I wondered the same thing - on the basis that surely you're meant to watch them?! But I wasn't imagining a ratio of 2:3. What are you there for, if it isn't to keep an eye on them? (Genuine question!)

MikeUniformMike · 11/05/2019 20:25

Ah, I was £10K out. Thanks.
There's a Bunting's Green in Essex but Buntingford is nearer.
The looking after Poppy is "wifework"(sorry). Nic would have been doing it, so Will would not have been aware that it needed doing.
Clarrie does all the running around looking after the family in Grange Farm.
In Ambridge, childcare is generally the mother's domain, apart from Helen and Pip, who seem to be adept at delegating the task.
Maybe Ian and Adam will share the parenting.

thislido · 11/05/2019 20:36

Google maps tells me my nearest bunting related location is a Bunting Close in Edmonton. I mention it because very nearby there is a business called Gateau Fabulous and I thought you might also enjoy the pun. It is described as a bakery, but confusingly the single review says "I love every vist here. I'd recommend the window care any day"

DadDadDad · 11/05/2019 20:48

There's a Bunting's Green in Essex but Buntingford is nearer.

Nearer to where? Bunting's Green is a hard place to actually find on the web (looks like a few house near Halstead).

Funnily enough it looks like I live about 15 miles from one and about 30 miles from the other.

She's a well-written, interesting character who's considerably less shallow that most of the child characters in TA, and is well-acted.

I'd like to give the scriptwriters a BOOP point for the way that they've developed the Mia storyline over many months. There have been lots of episodes in which Mia has been in the shop buying stuff, or Will's said "Mia's just giving Poppy her bath" etc etc, and it's just ticked over in the background until now. Nobody has had a character transplant, it all makes sense as a storyline. BOOP!

Well, they obviously got something right by apparently bringing in a SW specifically to deal with the Mia story! (Unfortunately I cant remember her name but she’s a playwright who has written about the detrimental effect on bereaved children of taking on a caring role in the household.)

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 11/05/2019 20:49

This is probably outing but ... I don't have a law degree from Oxford (or anywhere for that matter) and really couldn't give a toss if a few clever clogs on here have. Just wish they wouldn't clutter up the thread picking holes in the legal aspects of TA.

BOOP for the sibling relationship between Helen and Tom. I know they are both insufferable but they seem genuinely fond of each other and have one another's back. Unlike the Brookfield siblings.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 11/05/2019 21:02

Oh Revoke! You are so outed! GrinGrinGrin

(But how did you get in to the thread? I had to show University transcripts and everything ... Hmm)

( Grin )

Dumdedumdedum · 11/05/2019 21:23

What's the pun in Gateau Fabulous, please? Am bilingual franglais and can't for the life of me see the jeu de mots.

thislido · 11/05/2019 21:31

Oh! Ghetto Fabulous > Gateau Fabulous

thislido · 11/05/2019 21:33

MuffingtonClay · 11/05/2019 21:45

Wow Revoke that is really rude. Who made you in charge of deciding what is “clutter” and what is fair comment?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 11/05/2019 21:50

Muffi dahling - chill ...

😙

JazzersMaw · 11/05/2019 21:52

Jings, as my dear son Jazzer, would say I needed help with that jeu de mots too. I think the 90s passed me by - I was probably too busy with babies and paid work. Though I was going to google it as I thought ‘Oh, Edmonton, I’ve heard of that’.

No, DDD, naebody cares where you live - and anyway isn’t anywhere sarf of the border just one big homogeneous mass? Grin

InvisibleLlamaBurningCamel · 11/05/2019 21:54

@RevokeRemainpastcaringreally BOOP for you for grounding the thread. Idiosyncracies of the legal system can be interesting (sometimes/occasionally), but have you ever met anyone who went to Oxbridge who refrains from mentioning it in every conversation?
Not rude.

thislido · 11/05/2019 21:57

West Coast rap probably doesn't make the best lullabies.

DadDadDad · 11/05/2019 22:03

Invisible - but how would know about the ones who went to Oxbridge and don't mention it in conversation?

OP posts:
JazzersMaw · 11/05/2019 22:03

One touchy lawyer leaves, another arrives. It’s busy round here tonight. Hmm

Anyway, The Archers - wasn’t the writer this week the Stimson guy who did a lot of the Rob scenes rather than the new woman who has written on family dynamics? I like how they done the Mia scenes too and don’t really care who’s responsible though did wonder if the new Ed has influenced things (he has experience of bringing up girls after the traumatic death of their mother).

InkySplatter · 11/05/2019 22:04

Acis 'he'd get into a dreadful temper with everyone when it came to putting the tent up' bang on. I know swearing is not appreciated on these threads but %$#! The thought of campning with Will. Actaully scream/laughed out loud. That would be so terrible.

Very glad Mia has escaped. Feel awful for poor Poppy. I can't feel sorry for Will after everything that came out last week. He's not fit to look after the children is he?

JazzersMaw · 11/05/2019 22:06

TBF I’ve known Oxbridge graduates who do rarely mention it but I take your point, @InvisibleLlama.

JazzersMaw · 11/05/2019 22:08

Oops, missed out an ‘ve. I do know correct grammar when I see it.

InvisibleLlamaBurningCamel · 11/05/2019 22:24

@jazzersmaw thanks for that, as on ootsider to the thread, it's easy to feel sidelined. Such a shame I think really for a genuine listener. I try to (and do) contribute to the threads here and there.
What was the other point Ddd?

StationView · 11/05/2019 22:35

Revoke, I think I love you! Grin

Redcliff, if a public exam (e.g. GCSEs, A levels) is being held in the UK, invigilators are not permitted to do anything other than walk up and down the hall, hand out extra paper, read the exam paper etc. If it's an internal exam then you can get on with your marking / Mumsnetting. It must be different where you are Smile

DadDadDad · 11/05/2019 22:36

Invisible - I think the perception of being an outsider can be just that - perception. As a threadstarter, and regular "known" poster, I guess I feel like an insider, but I also find I make comments or ask questions that get no response. My point is that everyone gets ignored at times - the thread just moves on, or someone reads what you say but doesn't have anything to add. If you keep contributing thoughts about The Archers, then you are an insider - because at the end of the day, that's the only topic that we have in common.

What was the other point Ddd? Er, well, imagine you were a Cambridge graduate who really didn't make a point of bringing it up in conversation, and someone then said "Oxbridge types will always bring it up in conversation", then your paradox is that if you reply "well, I don't bring it up in conversation" you're proving their point. Confused

JazzersMaw that's an interesting point about the new editor and his own personal experience.

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 11/05/2019 22:45

The thought of camping with Will

The thought of camping anywhere with anyone turns my bowels to water.

Why didn't Will use his loaf and book an all-inclusive to Majorca? The kids would have loved that, even with Will there.
