ink Horrobin Histories - very good!

DadDadDad · 08/05/2019 16:32

ppeatfruit - absolutely; in our foregoing colloquy I was anticipating that one of my interlocutors would interpose that celebrated milestone in the oeuvre of Duchamps as a seminal intervention in the ongoing interrogation of that beguiling question: what is art? www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/duchamp-fountain-t07573

Anyone else think that the Royal new parents may have taken some baby-name inspiration from the UK's longest running radio drama? Or just a coincidence?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/05/2019 17:38

Surely though a taped-up floor was horribly derivative? Jim Lambie has been taping floors for ages: he had a large installation in Tate Liverpool and a flight of stairs at the RA’s Summer Exhibition in 2015: www.itsnicethat.com/articles/jim-lambie-stairs-ra

Russ' exhibition sounds very dull by contrast. A bit as if he had cut a hamster in half and displayed it in formalin, a poor man's Damien Hirst.

Madcats · 08/05/2019 17:38

slightly off topic, but commenting on D3's post:
if I experience a work of art and I'm still thinking about it the next day, or week or year, then I feel the art has some effectiveness

DD(11) is still traumatised by that Pinnochio-style Jordon Wolfson puppet they had chained up hurling itself about in the Tate last summer.

I thinks she calls it "plain weird, very disturbing!".

I am wondering whether CMR has an alcoholic brother he can invite to stay to screw up the vineyard! Alternatively Lower Loxley could be in danger of turning into something like Hauser & Wirth in Somerset.

grumiosmum · 08/05/2019 17:42

Oh you lot. Still talking about high falutin' art.

What about the Royal Baby name?

Harrison Archer!

birdsdestiny · 08/05/2019 18:07

I hope for his sake he has more spark than Harrison.

DadDadDad · 08/05/2019 18:32

Thanks, you lot! I've just been distracted by reading the BBC news article on the Royal baby. (named Archie Harrison, if that saves anyone a click).

I can't believe I read all the way to the bottom where they helpfully tell me the new baby's weight, the birth-weights of Charlotte, George and Louis, and the average birth-weight in the UK (3.4kg apparently - my DS weighed 0.9kg! Shock ). Why?

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 08/05/2019 18:34

And did Shula say 'strewth?' Why, I wonder? Why not? It's something I remember from a childhood near Ambridge. It's something I think of as quintessentially Borsetshire. Never heard it anywhere else. Though admittedly from Jill's generation rather than Shula's.

It's a fairly common NOT swear word. Perhaps not as common as it was as people aren't afraid of actual swearing now but I'm sure I've heard it recently(maybe it was me that said it).

Acis · 08/05/2019 19:38

Ooh, I do hope they write in a scene about the baby being named after Harrison.

grumiosmum · 08/05/2019 19:46

I was just thinking the same Acis!

JessieMcJessie · 08/05/2019 19:49

10K posts. Makes me think of the 10,000 hours theory about the minimum time that it takes to become an expert in anything...

I wonder how many hours of Archers the average poster has consumed?

Anyway I have enjoyed these threads immensely but the time has come to part ways with Mumsnet as it’s becoming an addiction that is sucking away too much of my time (and I am getting a bit fed up with all the negativity and threads that turn out to be trolls after you have spent time and energy contributing advice). This thread is a very honourable exception but, sadly, I can’t sever it from the rest of MN so this has to be goodbye. It’s been a blast, you are My People and I will still think “BOOP” whenever I hear a particularly pleasing scene.

MikeUniformMike · 08/05/2019 20:06

Oh dear, I wouldn't like to imagine how much TA I've listened to over the years. Or how much time I've spent discussing TA.

thislido · 08/05/2019 20:07

Oh that’s shame Jessie. If you’re still reading I use a bit of software called Freedom to lock myself out of various websites and apps for periods of time when they threaten to be too distracting.

DDD 0.9 kg?! That’s less than 2lb. Was he very premature?

thislido · 08/05/2019 20:10

If you listen to every episode once it’s only 67.6 hours a year, or 2.8 days Grin

GeorgeTheBleeder · 08/05/2019 20:12

That’s a shame Jessie - my over-infestment in Ambridge life has been all the better for your expert rl knowledge and insight and acute memory. You’ll be very much missed! Brew Cake

MikeUniformMike · 08/05/2019 20:21

But you can listen again and listen to the omnibus...

DadDadDad · 08/05/2019 20:27

I hate to be that guy, Jessie, but it's 100K posts not 10K. I reckon if you had listened to every episode of TA since these threads started 6 years ago, you would have heard over 400 hours of drama.

thislido - actually something like 950g so 2lb 2oz. Double-whammy of 10 week prem and growth-restricted. He's taller than his mum and doing A-levels now! Grin

Is it me, or was tonight's episode a bit dull? Will it rain? Won't it rain? Is it raining? No, wait... yes!

We’re you not carried along by the tension? Grin If the Archers were true to life about 80% of it would be dialogue about weather!

I’ve never seen a really tiny baby like that in real life. Glad he’s doing well on it!

GeorgeTheBleeder · 08/05/2019 21:07

It was’t dull!

At first I suspected Ed was lying about the reason for his early arrival at Brookfield - and that he’d been given orders by Tim for later in the day.

Then when he had all of Brookfield scurrying around to get ready, I was afraid Tim would ring at the last moment. Then, then, then ...

And in the end it was just the weather that scuppered things. Which means the threat of Tim and his awful devilry still hangs over everything. If he calls tomorrow morning and Ed obediently jumps - the consequences for. Brookfield will be dire. And inevitably dreadful for Ed.

So it was full of suspense and imaginative leaps!

Taswama · 08/05/2019 21:09

Was your DS premature then, DDD? My 2 were both around 2.5kg.

I’m glad Tom has finally admitted to Helen that all is not well.

Taswama · 08/05/2019 21:11

Sorry, I see you’ve answered and I just hadn’t refreshed the page.

JessieMcJessie · 08/05/2019 21:31

Of course it is, 10 I would only be 10 threads. Doh. See, too much MN rots the brain!

Can you do me a call for listening since approximately 1985, with a year off when I was an au pair in France before the Internet?
(I am allowing myself till midnight to leave Smile.)
May look at this Freedom thing though, thanks. Makes me think of that Freedom Programme that people are always recommending on the Relationships threads when people need to leave coercive partners...

JessieMcJessie · 08/05/2019 21:32

Calc not call.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 08/05/2019 21:33

Jessie, if you are still there (maybe until midnight tonight, in manner of NY resolutions) I think I love you, and I will be emulating your excellent example. MNet is a total time-suck. I used to read. LOADS!! Anyway, good luck with it and hope you enjoy your newfound time.
