Spot on about the ED, I was thinking similar during the episode.

birdsdestiny · 18/03/2019 07:50

Yes to be fair to Pat I am a bit distracted today as my youngest is going away with school for the week! if I had gone through what Pat has I might not be that confident in my decision making.

Dumdedumdedum · 18/03/2019 07:58

I thought Pat's mention to Tom last night of Helen's not eating was an indication that she was indeed worried about the implications and the possible recurrence of Helen's anorexia?

Hmm. Well, let's wait and see what she does. My betting is either (a) nothing or (b) blunders in and makes things ten times worse.

ppeatfruit · 18/03/2019 08:44

Pat using her sewing machine is the S.Ws getting into the 'reuse, repair before throwing out or taking to a charity shop' fashionable mode. It was only Fallon who was into it in Amb. before.

Choccyp1g · 18/03/2019 08:58

Except Tom said it reminded him of her doing the same for his trousers, about 35 years ago.

ppeatfruit · 18/03/2019 09:05

Nothing wrong with that. Choccy

EcclesThePeacock · 18/03/2019 09:09

It's the SWs mentioning something Pat has been doing all her life, I guess.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 18/03/2019 09:15

What is it with the Brookfield women and cardigans?

Was thinking last night that Jill and the lilac must be the source of Shula's cardigan obsession. Then remembered how, years ago, Elizabeth wanted to borrow money from Shula for a pink cardigan (possibly from Underwoods.) Shula laughed and retorted that "no-one needs a pink cardigan!"

Choccyp1g · 18/03/2019 09:19

Well Precisely, PPEATFRUIT, I mean the Bridge Farm Archers have always been ecofriendly, before it became fashionable.
I'm feeling as though we are getting the same plots recycled over and over. Sudden weddding; (Chris and Alice) repeated for Tom and Natasha.
Do-it-yourself wedding; (Emma and Ed) repeated for Fallon and Harrison.
Wedding that didn't happen (Tom and Brenda, Tom and Kirsty, Lillian and Justin) And Caroline and Robin but that maybe 30 years ago.
Not noticing Lizzie is ill, not noticing Helen is ill...
"Doggedly independant" single parent, moves back in with family. (Helen, Pip, Emma though she's not exactly single)

Probably about time for another coma and miraculous recovery.

EcclesThePeacock · 18/03/2019 09:20

Cardigans are useful if you're variably active, especially moving between differently heated environments, and moreso again if menopause buggers your temperature regulation.

However....I'm more concerned by Brookfield having run out of flapjacks and only shop-bought ginger something-or-anothers being available.ShockGrin

Dumdedumdedum · 18/03/2019 09:24

And Caroline and Robin but that maybe 30 years ago.

OMG, Choccyp1g. How old I am Grin

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 18/03/2019 09:25

Did someone mention flapjacks? Grin

EcclesThePeacock · 18/03/2019 09:26

In a series running as long as TA there's bound to be some repetition, but the proportion of unusual/non weddings is excessive. I wouldn't include DIY ones among those though, surely that's pretty normal in the real world?

Choccyp1g · 18/03/2019 09:34

To be fair, real life is just the same old story recycled, maybe I am getting too old and cynical and have literally heard it all before.

UnspiritualHome · 18/03/2019 09:36

The problem with Tom's claim that the thing about taking over the farmhouse was just drunken meanderings is that he repeated it to Helen when he was stone cold sober. So his sober self couldn't see anything wrong with it till Natasha beat him up about it.

ppeatfruit · 18/03/2019 09:42

Yes I would say that Amb. has a fairly normal range of weddings and non weddings (going by the records of my 3 dcs friends, (dd2 does have a LOT of friends with very varied post and pre weddings not one jilted at the altar though Grin)

RadioCarter · 18/03/2019 09:56

I have been feeling this recently. It used to be a strength of TA that nothing much happened, just like RL. They do seem to have accelerated the rate of storylines which means that they run out / repeat / get more extreme, but it's nothing like the rate of TV soaps.

EcclesThePeacock · 18/03/2019 10:22

At least TA does have some genuinely new material in the form of developments in agriculture/agribusiness- different applications of robotics, now the aquaponics.

ppeatfruit · 18/03/2019 10:23

True Radio I don't watch any of the TV soaps now, they make TA seem like an intellectual fest!

DM watches Emmerdale and the amount of make up, wigs , bad acting etc. makes me cringe. Shock

Sadly R4 is majoring much more on DRAMA now , I would like to know why? Have they done market research to show that that's what we want?

BuckingFrolics · 18/03/2019 11:08

Kill has not been focusing on flapjacks but on unhelpful things like her appearance and Leonard's picture that he didn't paint

BuckingFrolics · 18/03/2019 11:14

I see Kill Jill is back. sorry.

We can't have it both ways - grumbling about too much Drama and the grumbling about "irrelevant" or dull things like Jill flapping about her wardrobe. I liked the wardrobe but a lot more than the "Will Lee find out" drama for eg.

ppeatfruit · 18/03/2019 11:26

Oh h I blame the SW's for my thinking that yesterday's ending was not dramatic enough!! I have to remind myself that it's fine to be calm and 'normal' Grin {annoyed with the producers emoji}

thislido · 18/03/2019 11:27

I never understand the excuse of not meaning what you say when you’re drunk. Surely if you reveal anything in a disinhibited state, it’s what you really think but would normally keep hidden.

Apparently Women’s Hour are doing ketamine tomorrow if anyone wants to learn about it. Perhaps that will come back around as a story.

SisterMichael · 18/03/2019 11:39

lido it makes it sound like WH will actually be doing ketamine on the programme tomorrow Grin

Maybe it’s another thing to get the younger listeners in.
