Well hasn’t it been a fun few years! Thank you all for supporting the threads and sharing in love and critique of The Archers.

The whole wedding was really unbelievable. They don’t need to get married that quickly, but if they wanted to get on with it that desperately there must be plenty of register offices they could choose from with a slot in the next few weeks at a time when Natasha’s family and Tom’s closest friends could make it. Weekdays in March aren’t exactly prime wedding season. Is it supposed to be compare and contrast to the Kirsty wedding? When everything snowballed into faff about dresses and reception venues etc - this budget rush job shows how very deeply in love Tom and Natasha are?

Motoko · 09/03/2019 10:06

Nail on the head there George.

DavidDavidDavid · 09/03/2019 10:40

I can't work out if the SW are trying to show us that Natasha is genuinely a nice person who is ambitious about the farm but also truly in love with Tom, but something about the way she is acted makes that hard to see.

Maybe the SW know exactly what they're doing and intend to crank up a darker side now she's an Archer. After all, they got plenty of drama from doing that with Rob.

By the way, just sitting here I've noticed what's in the garden opposite - pic attached. #buntingobsession Confused

The bunting is festooning the bedrooms of every middle class child from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Instagram kids’ bedroom pics are full of it. I think it will be something that said kids look back in in 20 years and take the piss out of their parents about.

Almost strikes me as a strangulation risk, strange when we have got such awareness about the cords on blinds.

Regarding Natasha I think that the absence of her parents was just a device to get her in a position to have a heart to heart with Tony but it struck the wrong note for me that her own parents didn’t do more to be part of her day, also that she didn’t really mention how upset her Dad must be not to walk her in, or her Mum to see the vows, it was all about her. I now feel that she must be a character shaped by awful people in the mould of Úrsula and whatever Rob’s Dad was called, and this makes me view her differently. Yet I suspect the SWs didn’t intend this at all.

Hmm ... I don't suppose Hannah is pregnant (it would be too much fun!) but if that's the story then I guess they had to make the wedding happen before Hannah's 'condition' has become apparent. For maximum fall-out. And it's a while since she and Tom were finding ways to liven up their lunchtimes.

ppeatfruit · 09/03/2019 11:13

What did you all expect t the wedding? I liked Dave's comment ; a nice bit of Schadenfreude; remembering Tom standing up Kirsty while he was waiting for Nat. and had bossily told everyone to turn off their phones so he didn't get her message!

Ref. homeopathy most organic livestock farmers use it effectively. As does my family and we use it for our pets, I don't give a poo about science it works as far as we are concerned.

Motoko · 09/03/2019 11:14

Tom said Hannah's been going out getting hammered a lot though (trying to drown her sorrows, although he can't see it). She wouldn't be doing that if she was pregnant.

Also, it's been several months since they last shagged, so it would have started to show by now.

DavidDavidDavid · 09/03/2019 11:14

Rob's dad was called Bruce, and as soon as Natasha said about her parents not making it, I was reminded of the time Rob's parents were meant to be coming for dinner and Helen was going to meet them for the first time, then they mysteriously cancelled (according to Rob).

JazzerMcJazzer · 09/03/2019 11:22

Exactly DDD. They were commented on later, but the damage was done in my mind. Yet I don’t think that is where the plot is going this time.

I also wondered if Tony walking Natasha down the “aisle” was a nod to Prince Charles and Meghan Markle.

DavidDavidDavid · 09/03/2019 11:31

Ah yes, Tony a "senior" member of the Royal Archer family, and Natasha that outsider from a country to the west, with a last minute crisis stopping her own father making an appearance.

I've surprised myself with how much I remember about Harry's wedding, when I claim to have no interest in their lives. Blush

GeorgeTheBleeder · 09/03/2019 11:33

Motoko I've been assuming the story would be that Hannah doesn't know yet! And will only discover this inconvenient fact once Tom and Natasha are safely married and house-sharing with her.

a) Because Hannah doesn't strike me as particularly body-aware. b) Because it's a soap - and in the distant past when I followed TV soaps no-one ever knew they were pregnant until they went into labour. Grin

JazzerMcJazzer · 09/03/2019 11:34

Smile DDD

Motoko · 09/03/2019 11:48

It is possible I suppose George, I've always wondered how those women who didn't know they were pregnant until they give birth, could have been so unaware. Having had 3 myself, the kicking alone is a dead giveaway, there was no way it could be mistaken for wind!

ppeatfruit · 09/03/2019 12:23

But Nat's parents did turn up late didn't they ? Or was I imagining it?

Motoko · 09/03/2019 12:35

Yes, it was mentioned that they were able to see the end of the ceremony.

MikeUniformMike · 09/03/2019 12:39

I bet Natasha is a wrong un. How long has she and Tom been together?

JazzerMcJazzer · 09/03/2019 12:42

Yes, they did turn up, I said that.

KateMadikane · 09/03/2019 13:19

Glad to know my DS has a bright future! Very weird being called Kate, I did wonder who you were talking to for a moment!
I also saw (heard) the Royal Wedding parallels Davex3 ,

BuckingFrolics · 09/03/2019 13:26

Will bridge farm "go" to Tom, or Tom and Helen? And does Natasha know?

I'd certainly think about marrying a handsome (?) Apparently normal(?) man who stood to inherit a massive farm and farmhouse. ConfusedBlush

MikeUniformMike · 09/03/2019 13:29

Bridge Farm has 4 shareholders - Tony, Pat, Helen and Tom. Presumably each owns a quarter of the farm.

DavidDavidDavid · 09/03/2019 13:42

Kate - definitely credit to JazzerMcJazzer for the Royal wedding parallel - it didn't occur to me until she mentioned it!

HelloYouTwo · 09/03/2019 14:29

Surely Johnny has a stake in Bridge Farm, if it’s going down the inheritance route? He would have had John’s share. Perhaps the aim is for Johnny to take the whole place on as an actual farm rather than a tree-growing kefir-making cheese-brewing enterprise, which will all spin off to be satellite companies.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 09/03/2019 15:20

I expect the inheritance issue will come up pretty soon. I don't remember anything being changed to accommodate Jonny but I think that might come up. Maybe P&T will gift him the majority of their shares to make him an equal stakeholder with T & H.

JazzersMaw · 09/03/2019 16:57

When the bride’s parents were ‘delayed’ I immediately thought of bigamy. There’s been a thread on MN recently which maybe triggered the thought but, like DDD, I thought of les parents Titchener too and wondered if NAT just hadn’t invited them.

JazzersMaw · 09/03/2019 17:16

The only reg office wedding I’ve been to was my own and I can’t imagine any way a room like that would accommodate any ‘walking in with the bride’. I’m sure they come in all shapes and sizes though. I truly dislike the idea that PatnTone might be hoodwinked by any other child in law. They were really never that silly in the past- I think I’m just sort of dreading a rerun of Titchy’s malevolence. I can’t believe Natasha is as straight as she wants everyone to think but can she really do much damage if she’s only got influence on tom’s share. Johnny isn’t taken in by her and surely his opinion will have some influence on his GPs- ach, it’s too nice an afternoon here in Meadow Rise for folk to be thinking on TA!
