Well hasn’t it been a fun few years! Thank you all for supporting the threads and sharing in love and critique of The Archers.

I usually listen to episodes the next day but I reckon I'll tune in live tonight. I hope Tom gets jilted.

and if either child speaks there will be serious consequences.....

At 7.15 tonight we must all look out for remorseful children shivering and abandoned on the hard shoulder ...

Apart from Jennifer and Brian...and Johnny, who is actually going to the wedding? I'm just going to nip to Felpersham and sit in the coffee shop opposite the Registry Office (I'll take a spare tie, because I doubt that Tony has a decent one). Does Johnny own a suit?

I'm having visions of Kirsty sitting in a hide in her finest Miss Havisham costume.

RadioCarter · 08/03/2019 09:23

I wonder who will be Natasha's guests at the wedding? It must go to one of two extremes: either she will have nobody apart from parents (if Ambridgites are struggling with logistics, it must be even worse for the Welsh contingent) or she will have a phalanx of TheGreat&TheGood (?CEO of Nuffield?).

I enjoyed the dinner party yesterday in its low-key / no-drama way. They resisted the usual Soap shenanigans so a BOOP for that.

Thank you to Pseudo/Infested Badger for starting them and to all you funny and dedicated regulars who make the threads so interesting

I've got a new cream cardigan to wear tonight, and guess what I've baked for the reception? You'll never get it.

Motoko · 08/03/2019 11:28

I don't think there would be a problem with Lee searching for Helen Archer. There's bound to be something online, linking her Borsetshire Blue nomination and her previous history.

Susan really pushed the boat out for the dinner. Foam? And what was the other thing? Wasn't she going to do a consommé?
I think the comments by Brine and JD, before and after, were quite natural, and totally believable.

Why wasn't Alice drinking? I know she was driving, but it sounded like she had insisted on that, so she had an excuse for not drinking. It's not like Alice to voluntarily turn down alcohol.

HelloYouTwo · 08/03/2019 13:31

I enjoyed the dinner party, hearing Brian being quite surprised by how much he enjoyed himself, making everyone laugh with his lame jokes, Neil getting plastered and Chris & Alice vowing never to have dinner with just their parents again. Glad that Susan’s food worked out too.

WhiffofSnell · 08/03/2019 13:50

I'm borrowing Helen's navy dress - just have to sponge the slime off it.

I really dislike Ed. Can someone more articulate than me explain why he irritates me so much.

HelloYouTwo · 08/03/2019 13:55

We could have a fantastic potluck wedding buffet. Flapjack, Christmas cake and casserole from Jill. Tuna and custard from Helen. Pat’s disappointing vegetable stew, with a rival one from Olwen (wither Olwen by the way?). Herbal tea from Carol (ditto the query re Carol’s whereabouts), scruff gin from Toby, home grown veg from Joe and Bert. Apples and cider from the Grundies. What else? Smile

BorsetshireBlew · 08/03/2019 13:55

Anyone notice alice wasn't drinking? That plus the 'when are you going to have a baby' talk makes me wonder...

onthenaughtystepagain · 08/03/2019 14:18

and if either child speaks there will be serious consequences...

Someone else who plans their driving around TA, we had to sit outside Lidl for 15 minutes the other day so that himself could listen, he's not mastered iplayer!
Has there been a poll about the liklihood of the nuptuals happening? My vote is No.
I loved how Tom said that Natasha said they should get married, so does that mean that no-one actually proposed??

Sanguineclamp · 08/03/2019 14:25

I went to Underwoods for my outfit but the Jacques Vert concession was closed.

KateMadikane · 08/03/2019 14:32

I enjoyed Chris and Alice being mutually supportive at the dinner party last night but thought Dad’s comments on my absence were rather cheeky!
(I’m about the same age as Kate but that’s where the similarities end and I couldn’t work out how to subvert my usual name that starts Chem)

BringbackCharlie · 08/03/2019 14:53

Why was Alice not drinking?

I suspect that Alice was worried that she would say something inappropriate if she got drunk so found it best to stay away from the fermented grapes altogether.

Ambridge could do with some more kids, though. I really don't think I could cope with a few decades of listening to the current under-40s.

ppeatfruit · 08/03/2019 15:06

At Tomasha's wedding reception Susan's delicious sounding entree horseradish foam and mackerel/cucumber puree. Oh dear too much sloppy stuff IMO. It should have been pate in a pot . Though they all seemed impressed.

No one commented on the Death By Chocolate dessert, that sounds the best bit , nice at the wedding.

PrincessPip · 08/03/2019 15:36

Tom's happy 'It just feels so right' spiel seems to be signposting that something will jinx the wedding at the last minute. Or are the SWs just bluffing us into thinking that?

grumiosmum · 08/03/2019 15:42

The mackerel/cucumber puree sounded very odd and watery.

Nothing wrong with a horseradish/mackerel/cucumber combo as such - but I would have expected a bit more texture. Still the guests seem o have enjoyed it.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 08/03/2019 15:47

Ambridge weddings generally do go ahead. I remember Caroline and Robin not actually getting married was a huge thing (even though not a jilting at the altar situation).

During SOC and post-SOC* we had both Tom/Kirstie and Justin/Lilian. Hmm Excessive, some might say.

So it seems likely there will be a marriage tonight. The fun will come afterwards ...

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 08/03/2019 16:29

HelloYouTwo just don't suggest Susan's chilli for the potluck reception.

That certainly would SATTC.

LillianandJustin · 08/03/2019 16:38

I think the wedding will go ahead, but might be out of earshot - like the evening Tom announced their engagement and Natasha arrived after we’d gone. My prediction is that they will get married, but it won’t last - marry in haste and all that. Not quite sure why they need to get married for plot purposes - I’m thinking it must be inheritance related. I will actually be out, but will catch up as soon as I get home.

birdsdestiny · 08/03/2019 16:46

If I was asked by my new husband to move in with his ex FWB I would assume he was asking me to be in an open marriage. Who on earth does this?

LillianandJustin · 08/03/2019 16:56

I agree it’s too weird and can only be happening to prompt some plot development between Natasha and Hannah.

grumiosmum · 08/03/2019 17:00

I missed the episode where Tom announced he was getting married to Natasha, please could someone fill me in, before tonight's?

Thanks.

LillianandJustin · 08/03/2019 17:12

Pat, Tony and Helen were all together for dinner with Tom and Natasha. She was delayed on the road somewhere. In the end Tom blurted out they were getting married before she arrived - cue shock, surprise and attempts to sound supportive. The episode ended before Natasha arrived.
