Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

Well we'll have to wait and see Mike You reckon it's twins ? Grin Grin

Comfortablylow · 21/01/2019 14:03

I think you're right Mike Lexi's 2 children will get fond of their half brother/sister as a growing 'bump' and Lexi won't be able to give the baby up.
Cd someone tell me pls about Lexi's children, how old they are and are they girls or/and boys, TIA.

MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2019 14:09

Yes it's twins. Both girls. One of them is really a boy but I couldn't make two names to suit oout of Adam+Ian. OK, Damian is an abvious one. Dash it. No twins. Just a Damian.

MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2019 14:10

Lexi has two daughters. One is called Wioleta.

ChampooPapi · 21/01/2019 14:11

@InkySplatter he is Hugh Bonneville!

Bittermints · 21/01/2019 14:21

That episode last night annoyed me. I am married to an obsessive runner. We socialise a lot with other obsessive runners. I've even taken part in a couple of races myself and I am a regular at parkrun. I have frequently attended big races as a supporter/baggage holder. I have never, ever seen or heard of someone running a race in a novelty costume who kept that fact a secret until the race was over. What was the point supposed to be?

People who run to raise money for charity mention every single thing that might increase the sponsorship UP FRONT. They don't wait till the end!

People who run in a face-obscuring novelty costume for fun also tell others what they're doing in advance, as otherwise none of their supporters will know who to cheer for! Having supporters there calling out your name, waving, yelling encouragement and just smiling is a big boost to morale. Hiding from your supporters is odd in the extreme.

Is it just me?

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 21/01/2019 14:25

@Bittermints it's not just you, that costume was a really weird choice to chuck in. They could have still worn something a bit 'novelty' without half killing themselves in a horse costume for no reason, as well as it obscuring their faces.

Really random and pointless, ruined that story line!

Madcats · 21/01/2019 14:34

Am I the only one getting annoyed with the Lexi story line? Brexit or no Brexit this is going to get messy if Lexi hangs around in Bulgaria.

There is a helpful little table that somebody has posted on Bulgarian parenting/surrogacy -
www.ined.fr/Xtradocs/lawsandfamilies/LawsAndFamilies-BG-Section3.pdf

I wonder what the script-writers are playing at (unless it turns out to be Roy's)?

Also, why has Wilf Scolding (Chris) changed his accent? Or is it another NuChris?

Bittermints · 21/01/2019 14:36

@ChampooPapi, glad I'm not alone! Saddo that I am, I actually perked up when I went to catch up with it and remembered that Alistair was running the half-marathon. All downhill from there, sadly.

Yeah all a bit daft, dramatic licence I guess. However I at least breathed a sigh of relief for Kirsty as I was worried that Philip had collapsed and Alastair was trying to save him- yes, Phil is still not confirmed 100% recovered but surely the SW cannot, after all her very serious traumas, have her lose a boyfriend to “Ill-thought -through decision to run a half marathon dressed as the arse of a pantomime horse”

JessieMcJessie · 21/01/2019 14:56

“Violeta” will be written in Cyrillic Mike . First letter B. I doubt Lexi would anglicise it with a W -that’s Polish I think?

Can’t remember the name of the other one, but they are both teens I think. We never hear anything about their father either. I always thought it was an odd decision to give Lexi two teen girls when they gave Albanian Ilona two teen girls as well.

Comfortablylow · 21/01/2019 15:12

Thanks for the info on Lexi.
Loved Jenny's speech to Brian asking which is more important to him, his reputation or his moral integrity. I can see him going to prison over this.

Bittermints · 21/01/2019 15:12

Grin I hope not! No wonder he's been tired though. Running a half-marathon bent double with your head stuck up somebody else's buttocks doesn't sound like much fun.

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2019 15:14

Yeah, the spelling I gave is probably Polish. I hadn't thought of how to spell it in Bulgarian. At least I got the pronunciation. I think Ilona's daughters were Rosa and Anna. Their father was HeWhoMustNotBeNamed.

JessieMcJessie · 21/01/2019 15:25

Elizabetta just came to me as Lexi’s other daughter but I might be wrong (and no idea how to spell it Mike Grin.

MrsArthurShappey · 21/01/2019 16:04

I know the conversation has moved on but I haven't been on all weekend. Hornets of course I was joking!

The fact that we agree to disagree on all sorts of characters and storylines (and almost always good-naturedly) is what makes these threads so enjoyable and enduring.

Re Pip, Lillian has as ever hit the nail on the head. It’s David and Ruth that are the problem. In fact, Pip has often tried to downplay things when they go over the top. But she really is so snidey and unpleasant towards her brothers, and you might have thought she’d have grown out of that by now.

I’m sorry to say I really do think she’ll end up with Rex, because I’ve just noticed how like David he is. Generally good natured but passive, moany, put-upon, the ‘good brother’….they do say women marry their fathers don’t they? Poor Rex, he is a nice chap and deserves better than the Brookfield Archers!

On the subject of Brian, how many people actually know he knew those men were dumping toxic waste, and paid him for the pleasure? I thought it was only ‘the partnership’ that knew that. So, he might get away with pleading not guilty. Ugh he is awful. It’s Jenny that’s ‘suffered enough’, not him.

I really dislike Alice these days, I’m sure she used to be more down-to-earth. Chris was bizarre and hilarious.

cheminotte · 21/01/2019 16:07

I agree Bittermints - I thought they’d tell people in advance re the horse.

williteverend99 · 21/01/2019 16:25

Damian and Adan?

witchmountain · 21/01/2019 16:26

Thanks for the Boring Talks recommendation, Fink! Looks right up my street.

birdsdestiny · 21/01/2019 16:51

I so wanted them not to do the surrogacy storyline, I just don't think they have the skills to tackle the issues it raises.

SaturdayNext · 21/01/2019 17:11

Isn't Brian going to have to explain how come he meekly paid up hundreds of thousands of pounds for the contamination clean-up if he thought he wasn't responsible?

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/01/2019 17:47

If you just go for partial anagrams, you could have quads: Damian, Aidan, Nadia and Amanda.

cheminotte · 21/01/2019 18:59

Presumably Lexi is going back to Bulgaria for a few months but will come back to the UK to have the baby?
If it’s multiples she will have to come back a lot sooner.
Also do the Home Office have any concerns when visibly pregnant women arrive on a one-way ticket?

cheminotte · 21/01/2019 18:59

Or will they post-B**t ?

QuaterMiss · 21/01/2019 19:08

Wow. Shock

Think I'm in love with Ben ...
