Welcome..... I'd concocted a longer title with all sorts of references to bitch stitching and pasta bakes, but was thwarted by the pesky character limit

Jenny chose to play the martyr rather than kicking Kate into line. No sympathy here

Jenny has always put family first whatever she is asked to do. Kate had been making a success of the business (even Brian acknowledged that) and mentioned how for the first time she had the respect of the children. Debbie also lobbied on Kate's behalf, Adam and Kate both backed selling the house as did Ruth. On paper it was the logical thing to do.

I don't think its fair to blame Jenny for the situation they are in or for having a whinge about a small two bed cottage when all the way along Brian has been talking about something significantly bigger.

Sorry mabelchiltern - not Carol. Was having a bleary eyed NYD moment - meant Christine.

Oh Ruairi! Give her a hug.

Lily, DUMP HIM!

grumiosmum · 01/01/2019 19:15

thursday!

SusanWalker · 01/01/2019 19:40

Ffs Lily. At what point will she realise that he is pretending to support her whilst she is actually supporting him. It sounds like she should move back home, have a gap year and apply for a different course next year at a different uni. All without Russ of course. The ultimate in cocklodgers.

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/01/2019 20:40

Just caught up with this thread (and scored only 14/20 in the quiz Blush - I bet everyone else could remember what Lower Loxley's Halloween gruesome-fest was called).

Had a chuckle at Abra1de's post about Mr Bingley.

I was a bit distracted while listening earlier (and actually can't remember whether it was the lunchtime repeat, or this evening's episode - listened to both today), so not sure who caused the mess that Adam and Ruari (sp?) were clearing up. Or why it happened.

And a happy new year to all.

All that guff about how he will look after the flat and make sure she eats. Fgs- it's a 2 bedroom modern flat. What looking after does it need?

I think that it was the Gills housewarming / New Year party. I have no idea why Adam thought that the mess was their responsibility to sort out.Confused I was also a bit surprised by Ruairi being quite so horrified and house-proud. Not a normal teenage reaction (esp if nursing a hungover).

Abra1de · 01/01/2019 21:51

Sadly very nasty mess is un-Bingley like, though, Princess.

birdsdestiny · 01/01/2019 21:58

My teenager has just come home complaining about the town he and dh visited today saying how messy it was. Ruairi is the product of his upbringing.

lottiegarbanzo · 01/01/2019 22:29

Ruaridh and Ben went to 'Molly's house party', I assumed Molly Button.

Ruaridh said the next day '...when we were there... I mean, when I looked at the house from the office in the afternoon...'. I took that to mean that he'd been at the party at Home Farm.

He and Ben went to look but didn't attempt to go in. I assumed he didn't want Jennifer to know they had been thinking of crashing it.

lottiegarbanzo · 01/01/2019 22:36

Oh is that all. And the Buttons still live, wherever they live (newer houses in the village?).

DeepanKrispanEven · 01/01/2019 23:43

I struggled to sympathise with Jenny about the problems of fitting stuff into a smaller kitchen. How much equipment does she need to cook for three people?

C8H10N4O2 · 02/01/2019 00:04

That isn't what its about though is it? Jenny's entire life has been around family, home and being a very effective corporate wife.

Cooking isn't just something she does to feed people its something she does very well and its a part of what she is. Being unable to cook properly (for her values of properly) is just reinforcing what she has lost, through no fault of her own.

SusanWalker · 02/01/2019 00:38

Although I think Jenny possibly needs counselling to help her stop measuring her self worth by the size of her kitchen and the number of appliances she has.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 02/01/2019 00:42

I felt a bit queasy about Brian’s jewellery gift on Christmas Day. I believe he used to give her such things when he’d been unfaithful. I’m sure Jennifer would have found it more useful if he’d got stuck in with the packing and made her a sandwich.

PrincessFiorimonde · 02/01/2019 02:27

Thanks, R4.

Minimammoth · 02/01/2019 04:39

Too right susan

cheminotte · 02/01/2019 07:49

Well he could even have helped out AND bought her a nice piece of jewellery.
I too am confused why Adam and Ruari were tidying up the empties. Are they planning on doing that every time the new owners have a party?
I was disappointed that Phoebe didn’t help Lily consider her options more but was encouraging her to return to uni. BOOP for her tentative questioning on whether Russ was contributing at all!

LillianGish · 02/01/2019 08:25

I understood they were cleaning up because the mess was outside - the point being that though the house has been sold it sits very much in the middle of the farm. I still can’t understand for the life of me why they didn’t sell theSpiritual Home land instead - Kate has disappeared. Who is taking care of things? They sould have taken the tents down and put them up in another spot when/if she Comes back. Completely bonkers.

glamorousgrandmother · 02/01/2019 08:32

I have no idea why Adam thought that the mess was their responsibility to sort out.
He said Jenny would be upset if she saw it. I can't imagine they'll be able to keep it up indefinitely.

Ruaridh said the next day '...when we were there... I mean, when I looked at the house from the office in the afternoon...'. I took that to mean that he'd been at the party at Home Farm

He didn't want her to know they'd been there to tidy up. I thought they had given up trying to find a cool party and ended up at Brookfield on NYE.

R4 · 02/01/2019 08:43

It's not Jenny's house anymore. It is not her place to be 'upset' or anything else. She needs to Let It Go. It was a mistake to live quite so close to the old place.
I'm afraid that I don't have much sympathy for JD. She was happy to live her life on Brian's money when things were going well (i.e. never bothered to maintain her own earning power) so she can live her life on Brian's absence-of-money too.

LillianGish · 02/01/2019 08:57

A bit harsh re JD R4. They can’t move too far because they still have the farm. I would also say she and Brian have pretty much been a team when it comes to Home Farm. She does all the schmoozing and catering for the shoot and other business events and runs everything else to allow Brian to concentrate on the farming - even to the extent of raising his child by another woman. To suggest her contribution is somehow less seems a bit churlish. Now they have actually moved out it seems this plot is very much about watching osmeone else living in a much loved home (revisiting To the ManorBornas I said down thread). How long before we see Jenny’s beloved kitchen in a skip?
