Thanks to witchmountain for the last thread and to dadx3 for Godfathering them! Also to any other posters whose ideas I have borrowed for the title.

Responsible I also thought that Ben had a lovely, well rounded voice yesterday evening.
Merdede I had to look up the meaning of non-sequitur, oh dear I thought it was FrenchBlush Oh well, I'm a dab hand at polishing taps.

ResponsibleMushroomForager · 03/12/2018 19:12

Howdydo - yes, well rounded is a better way of putting it! Unlike Pip whose voice was going really deep again last night.

witchmountain · 03/12/2018 19:15

I'm actually a bit disappointed

Fink, google ‘prodigal son misuse’ and you will no longer be disappointed.

Re Gruach I saw her on another thread a few days ago with the name change she was using on here but an advanced search says she hasn’t been posting much anywhere with that name. Maybe she’s having a break. I miss her on here.

I loved the way Russ said "Fine"; worthy of the sulkiest of teenagers.

Elizabeth's marathon headache bodes ill (sic).

And Lily driving up to Manchester? Is this Russ's car or hers? It was National Express coaches back in my day.

TheMadGardener · 03/12/2018 20:03

Lily and Freddie were given a joint car when they passed their tests . I guess that Lily has taken this car to uni, since Freddie can't use it while he's in clink. Russ also owns a car. Whether he and Lily can afford to run two cars in their financial position is dubious.

echt · 03/12/2018 20:10

I'd forgotten the birthday car, but agree running costs would be considerable.

Fink · 03/12/2018 20:52

I work in a church, witchmountain, so the misuse of the prodigal son is familiar to me. Many's the time I've seen a fresh faced young priest try to point out that 'actually, we could say it's the father in this parable who's prodigal a ha ha ha ...' to a sea of blank faces. I was interested above to see whether the word was evolving to a new meaning alongside its original one, rather than just being misused.

witchmountain · 03/12/2018 21:45

That’s how it happens though, isn’t it? Like fulsome.

LillianGish · 03/12/2018 22:01

A pasta bake - wonder if it contained tuna? Symbolising the demise of the relationship. Has anyone ever done an Academic Archers paper on the significance of various dishes - tuna bake, anything with salmon, Susan’s Chilli... I suspect Lily won’t make it back on Wednesday and that Russ will end up coming to LL for a showdown.

InkySplatter · 03/12/2018 22:08

Or a show up Grin

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/12/2018 22:10

I thought Russ was quick to get off the phone. Pasta bake doesn’t get crisp in 2 minutes.

witchmountain · 03/12/2018 22:14

Yes, I thought that. Also crispness is the point of pasta bake.

chemenger · 03/12/2018 22:28

I hate pasta bake because of the crispness, pasta is meant to be soft.

Rubycat · 03/12/2018 22:44

I KNEW you guys would have spotted that pasta bake/tuna bake mention! The harbinger of relationship DOOOM......

witchmountain · 03/12/2018 23:03

It’s the cheese on top that should be crispy!

DadDadDad · 03/12/2018 23:13

Hey, Lillian, we did this back in September. I wrote the following...

Lillian - and presumably if a tuna bake appears then it is truly the end. I wonder if the writers have a fish-based scale (pun intended) of dramatic outcomes? Tin of sardines = mild peril.

I suppose fish are the main food type that a rural farming community can’t produce themselves, so they represent the unknown, a challenge to familiarity and stability. There’s probably a dissertation in this...

JessieMcJessie · 03/12/2018 23:19

Something Bad is going to happen in the barn. All the references to David and his risk assessment and now Rex saying that Lynda should leave it open. It’s setting the scene for something.

LillianGish · 04/12/2018 06:37

Well remembered DDD - I see my comment then was prompted by Elizabeth cooking a salmon when Russ came to dinner. There’s definitely something in it for the Academic Archers. Using your fish based scale, if Russ’s pasta bake does indeed contain tuna then who knows what might happen on Wednesday (if all goes well then we’ll know it was nothing more than macaroni cheese).

Minimammoth · 04/12/2018 07:17

Grin Lillian ah the innocence of mac cheese.

JessieMcJessie · 04/12/2018 08:24

if you are on Facebook the BBC are doing an Archers Advent calendar this year- follow them and each day in your news feed you will get a new vintage clip- so far we’ve had Brian’s first appearance, Neil’s speech at Chris and Alice’s wedding party, Hazel Woolley scheming against Jack and...wait for it...the Sid and Jolene shower scene. Well worth a listen. Might possibly be on the Archers website too.

JessieMcJessie · 04/12/2018 08:29

Can’t see it on the website but I did see
this. Looks like they are doing the Canterbury Tales as a stand-alone Christmas drama like they did with that ghost one whose name I have forgotten.

Bekabeech · 04/12/2018 08:32

My totally wild prediction could the Gills who are buying Home Farm be Brenda and her new husband?

OnceUponAGiraffe · 04/12/2018 08:38

I’m still an episode of two behind, but don’t we hope/think that Jill’s “huge family Christmas” is a sure sign that there will be Drama on the day, and someone won’t make it as far as New Year? There’s an awful lot of rather old people around (not to mention Lizzie and the ominous headache) and all that Christmas based nostalgia is surely a prime opportunity for the Ambridge reaper to do his/her worse?

howdyho · 04/12/2018 09:02

I think you might be right OnceUpon with Jill's comment 'who knows where we'll all be next year' though being dead didn't cross my mind at that point! I hope Elizabeth's headaches don't turn into something more sinister, she can be a pain but I've always enjoyed listening to her and never get tired of her voice, unlike some others....
The Advent calendar sounds fun. Sid and Jolene's shower scene! I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard that! Would love to listen again and also to hear Nigel's voice if he is also in the Advent calendar?

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/12/2018 09:02

We haven't heard from Kate in a long while (well, you lot may have done - I'm running a fortnight behind)
