Archers Thanks to LilG for the title, and DDD for starting the last thread and the tradition of the thread starter nominating the next thread starter Grin

Lurkers are always welcome to unlurk and join in, including asking questions of the many very knowledgeable posters with a long Archers-listening history.

Don't post spoilers based on forthcoming plot synopses that you've read, there's another thread for that (and we'd love to see you over there). Once an episode has aired then it's fair game. Archers

[ grin] Bore will they all meet at the STI clinic?

cheminotte · 31/10/2018 08:35

Err how can the SWs not ‘know’ that Hannah is a nasty piece of work? Unless they only write their own episodes, don’t listen to the ones in between and are unaware of how her various words and actions are adding up?

Cromercrab · 31/10/2018 08:38

I just checked the rate of STIs in the UK population. It's 61.2 per 100,000 or (I think) 0.0612%. The rate is higher in young women from 20 -24 (not Hannah's then) at 345 per 100,000. So the chances of STI transmission in UK heterosex seem quite low to me. Although I know it's a Mumsnet thing on boards where affairs are suspected to 'go and get yourself checked out." Which has always come across to me as somewhat nasty and misogynist. Is that what you meant Mini? - because Hannah would be the partner they shared and therefore a site of disease?

R4 · 31/10/2018 08:56

What a totally unproductive pointless waste of time! Every idea Pip and Josh came up with was shot down. It gave the impression that it was for show and David and Ruth are still calling the shots.
I didn't get caught up in it as a story as such. I thought it was just this week's Public Information segment (should you employ strategy A, B or C? - discuss)and filed it away as such.

Not 'have you seen the cost of feed?' but 'how much do we need and how much will it cost?'
They have to write in advance so presumably they wrote this in late summer when they were trying to look ahead. They would have an idea of where prices were going but couldn't be definitive. Besides, when has TA ever been realistic precise about finances?

Fink · 31/10/2018 09:52

Make sure all cows that should be culled have been, this is not the winter to carry passengers.

I think we already heard a scene where Ruth and Josh were selecting which ones to cull a few weeks ago, didn't we?

witchmountain · 31/10/2018 11:26

Cromercrab I imagine the incidence in Ambridge must be quite a lot higher given the apparent non-availability of condoms.

Iirc Jonny showed some half hearted interest in girls at the IoW festival with Freddie, but didn't get anywhere. Maybe he will become Ambridge's first openly asexual character.

Bekabeech · 31/10/2018 12:51

Johnny likes some silent girl at Karate, he has also had a thing with the oldest Button girl.

MeanTangerine · 31/10/2018 12:58

Ah, thank you Beka!

Miscible · 31/10/2018 15:31

I do hope Josh is going to come up with an amazing miracle solution for the cattle problem, if only because Pip will be so annoyed.

witchmountain · 31/10/2018 15:45

I thought it was interesting that Pip raised the possibility that he might. Sometimes siblings notice qualities in each other that parents miss.

cromercrab that seems very low. Do you have a link?

peridito · 31/10/2018 17:25

"Ishmael Osamor, son of Shadow International Development Secretary Kate Osamor, has received a community service sentence after being found in possession of 30 grammes of ecstasy, 7.5 grammes of cocaine, 5.7 grammes of ketamine and a bit of cannabis with a total street value of between £1,690 and £2,500some £2,000 worth of Class A drugs"

I don't know how this compares with Freddies stash but feel Elizabeth needs to be aware of this lenient sentence .

LassWiADelicateAir · 31/10/2018 17:47

Oh my. This person is 29 and remains on the payroll of his mother. From The Sunday Times

He also works for his mother, Kate Osamor, the shadow international development secretary. It is understood that she continues to have confidence in his suitability to work for her

It was announced last year that from 2020 MPs are to be banned from hiring relatives using public money

The local Labour Party has begun an investigation, which will consider, among other things, the process around Osamor’s selection. He was caught with ketamine, ecstasy, cocaine and cannabis at the festival, nine months before being chosen as a councillor. His selection was supported by Momentum, the group that supports Mr Corbyn. “Councillor Osamor was apparently already awaiting trial at the point when Haringey Labour selected him as a candidate. If they knew this, then they withheld vital information from residents before and after the recent council elections. If they didn’t know, they were careless with their processes and urgently need to tighten them up.”

This person still has a House of Commons pass.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 31/10/2018 18:24

Disgraceful. Reinforces my lack of confidence in Momentum and Labour. Goodness knows this is the most lacklustre government I can ever remember, but the prospect of that absolute shower taking over gives me palpitations.

Anyway, back to The Archers. I'm on Team Josh, probably because as I keep mentioning Angus Imrie was in my son's year at school. I used to work hard at not gawping at his parents when we were all queuing up to see the teachers at parents' evening. Grin So I hope Josh pulls some rabbit of the hat and saves the day. Pip's nose would be right out of joint, so win win!

TheEfficientBaxter · 31/10/2018 19:16

When did Henwee suddenly start speaking like an articulate nine-year-old?

QuaterMiss · 31/10/2018 19:18

Ok - how much did Brian slip Ruairi?(I heard the crackle of a note or two ...)

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2018 19:40

So, Ruairi. Yet another character with a voice which is totally indistinguishable from about 4 others.

QuaterMiss · 31/10/2018 19:50

Indeed. He sounded a bit more distinct on Sunday - I could picture him. Today he was almost a different person. And rather bland.

But Henry ... SOC really has dropped the SWs in it - for a lifetime. Must be awful having to sustain the custard saga.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2018 20:12

He had a broad Irish accent when we last heard him, what, 10 years ago? They could've kept a little vestige of that to help us out.

You always know when a character's voice is really samey like this because whoever they are talking to has to keep dropping their name into the conversation. "That was really irresponsible Ruairi" etc

witchmountain · 31/10/2018 20:23

They could've kept a little vestige of that to help us out.

Instead you’re going to have to rely on him throwing out the odd ‘craic’ every now and again. Halloween Grin

Maybe ... I think it might have been sheep....

R4 I'm sure I read far too much into the meeting overinfested but I did think it was frustrating for Pip and Josh that David and Ruth poo pooed everything straight off and there was no real conclusion. I know they can't discuss real facts and figures but they can say that they need those figures to reach a conclusion rather than dismissing ideas out of hand which is how it seemed... We are in a similar position this winter and it's going to be tough. There's lots of options but it's likely going to be costly whatever we do.

Haven't listened tonight yet.

witchmountain · 31/10/2018 21:40

I think it was sheep. I remember being amused as Ruth briskly dismissed one of them as being a bad mother, as it was around the time Pip was due to give birth I think. (I realise that’s the commercial reality of livestock, it was just funny in the context.)

Hello Kitchen. It was from the FPA www.fpa.org.uk/factsheets/sexually-transmitted-infections

I'm reeling at that Osamar story. Will google to find out more. Haven't listened to tonight's episode yet. Agree with those who would cheer a Josh-generated solution.
