As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

I can't see this lasting. A fussy old bloke with a yeast allergy isn't sexy. I mean to say, he had a big showdown with his wife (drama!) and had to flee the house pausing only to fetch his socks and his special loaf. Nope.

Really hope Lara turns up...

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/09/2018 23:16

Is there something in the water at LL. Lizzie and Lily seem to have lost any semblance of sense and reality.

Freddy's mushrooms - he must have hidden them in the pipework

Fink · 03/09/2018 06:19

I wonder if Lily's plan is to bankrupt LL, thus ruining Freddie's inheritance, or maybe it's just to see how far she can push her mum who is clearly terrified of upsetting her by saying the wrong thing. A coffee grinder for her partner (not even something she's pretending to want for herself!), what other ridiculous things is she trying to get Elizabeth to pay for?! It sounded pretty much like she expected her to furnish the whole flat up to quite high standards.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/09/2018 07:04

yes It doesn’t seem to have occurred to Lily that Russ should be paying his way. She is dreamily imagining him being an artist.

Perhaps lizzy will refuse to pay and Russ will suggest selling the painting...

MrsGrindah · 03/09/2018 07:27

“ Where’s he going to sleep?” You live in a bloody stately home for Gods sake! Terrible writing

Re Hannah...I actually like her! I think the actress who plays her delivers her lines very naturally. And it’s about time someone challenged Emma’s sense of entitlement. Or is it extreme bitterness that other people have things “MeanEd” can’t afford? Plus I think it is a bit of a compromising position re Emma’s and Neil’s position on the parish council.

Gruach · 03/09/2018 07:33

Oh goodness, the Gwen John! They couldn’t be so evil - surely?

Even aside from her biography, Gwen John was wonderfully well chosen (by Nigel and the SWs) as a talisman for Lily. It would be a pity if the picture becomes something that causes her shame or regret.

Gruach · 03/09/2018 07:40

As regards the stately home accommodation - they do only occupy an apartment. (Though we’ve no information (?) on what’s become of Julia and Lewis’ quarters.) I’d imagine there would be insurance and H&S implications distinguishing the domestic from the on show rooms?

(Lewis - again. Where the hell is he? Can’t someone put me out of my misery?)

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/09/2018 07:44

I’ve just looked up Gwen John as I knew nothing about the artist. Very interesting. Russ is no Rodin.....

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/09/2018 08:06

Well true but it is unlikey they didn't retain a spare bedroom.

Also they do weddings. There will be rooms for that presumably. I can't see what difference in H&S or insurance there would be putting him in one of those.

Gersemi · 03/09/2018 08:44

I can't really see what insurance or H&S implications there would be from putting Russ into an official guest room. Being Lily's boyfriend doesn't inherently make him more of a risk than any other guest, rather the reverse.

I've known a number of B&B owners who say they put their relatives in the B&B rooms at Christmas time and suchlike.

Gersemi · 03/09/2018 08:46

Perhaps Russ is going to find more incriminating evidence against Freddy in his room and use that as an extra hold over Lizzie.

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/09/2018 08:58

Truly the Ambridge bedroom fairy works in mysterious ways-2 room cottages expand and stately homes contract.

Gruach · 03/09/2018 09:09

I hadn’t understood the guest rooms to be in the main house? I may have mis-remembered hearing Elizabeth needing permission from the trustees to convert some outbuildings into guest accommodation.

5000FingersofDrT · 03/09/2018 09:15

My immediate thought was also 'erm, how many bedrooms does a stately home have?' Even given that many rooms presumably aren't habitable, where did Jill sleep, for example, when she lived there?

Lewis lived there. So did Julia at one point. So there must be other rooms. Surely putting him in Freddie's room is just ridiculous?

(Re. Gwen John. A quick google reveals that in 2013 Sotheby's sold her painting 'The Convalescent' for £250,000. Way above the estimate of £60-80,000. So Russ must have been thinking he was well in with a wealthy, beautiful, naive, young and trusting girlfriend. Which person will crack first? Lily's clearly starting to have the first stirrings of doubt, and about time too)

MrsGrindah · 03/09/2018 09:53

But sure,y even if they had to go to another part of the building they did do that rather than check into a hotel as Lily suggested. That was just ludicrous!

Also, can I change my spelling of MeanEd please? I think “ MeyanEd” sounds more like it!

MrsGrindah · 03/09/2018 09:53

Would do that, not did do that.

LillianGish · 03/09/2018 10:24

Well it's safe to say Lily did not sound too thrilled that Russ had actually left his wife - I imagine his charms must be starting to fade now that his less than sexy food allergies and lack of social confidence are starting to take precedence over his position of power since she has left school and he is no longer deputy head. I think the bedroom situation is entirely contrived so he can stay in Freddie's room - not sure how that will look when he writes the reference and has to give his address (The defendant's bedroom, in the house he is due to inherit, Ambridge). I'd love it if the whole thing was in fact an elaborate scam so he could gain access to Lower Loxley and steal the Gwen John, but that would be too ridiculous even for this current phase of unlikely plot twists - his wife could be in on it and they could both flee to Costa Rica to join Matt Crawford.

Gersemi · 03/09/2018 10:40

Lewis lived there. So did Julia at one point. So there must be other rooms. Surely putting him in Freddie's room is just ridiculous?

So did Pip, very recently.

However, to be fair, the ridiculousness may well be Lily's rather than the scriptwriter's, given that Lizzie wasn't suggesting that Russ kip on the sofa. It could simply be that Freddy's room is near to hers and therefore more convenient for a quick shag.

echt · 03/09/2018 10:43

At what point will Lizzie have a think about what Lily said about others doubting Russ's motivation?

wurzelburga · 03/09/2018 10:49

Russ’ wife is going to turn up at Freddies trial and denounce them all!

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/09/2018 11:05

Julia would have had her own apartment. Presumably Lewis is still there.

Jill stayed in a room which felt too posh for her, so I imagine Lizzy's apartment is pretty lush.

MapleLeafRag · 03/09/2018 11:15

There was room for Pip when she stayed on and off while "her" cottage was rented out - wasn't that where Rosie was conceived?

Gruach · 03/09/2018 11:50

not sure how that will look when he writes the reference and has to give his address (The defendant's bedroom, in the house he is due to inherit, Ambridge).

Indeed ...

I feel the need to protest again at their utter uselessness in legal matters. Who is Usha (!) instructing with regard to Freddie? And why are they not tearing home, college and Borchester apart to find a better culprit than him? This level of passivity is just inconceivable.

(Though actually, whoever is acting for Freddie will be (ought to be) incandescent when they find themselves in court with a character referee whose unsuitability was concealed by the solicitor ...)
