As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

Didn’t they re-mortgage or take out a loan or summat? Problem went away anyway ...

OT but you might find it amusing...

Wasn’t she a silly girl

Hm, my recent posts look fine in the app DDD; and in your example I see 'this' in bold twice, no asterisks. It's a platform dependent difference, it seems. You should see the mangling on threads where a level grades are being discussed...Grin

I can't remember whether in posts I've used old fashioned asterisks or the bold style app button.

witchmountain · 11/09/2018 00:03

On the mobile website it shows as asterisk-space-unbolded word.

I can overlook it if you’ll teach me how to make portals Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 11/09/2018 00:26

Like that? (Hope it still works on all platforms.)

The bolding is an issue for Tech, I guess, but they must know about it.

witchmountain · 11/09/2018 00:41

Exactly like that Grin

But no secret instructions have arrived overnight Sad

I think the problem with Tom is he has no convictions, so has no reason to stick out an idea when the going gets tough. Possibly he doesn’t even like farming that much - family businesses do land people in the wrong jobs sometimes. In contrast to many of the characters I can’t recall him looking around and reflecting on how much he loves the landscape or animals or how lucky he is to be there. He’s always trying to get somewhere else rather than being absorbed in what he’s doing now.

QuaterMiss · 11/09/2018 09:01

I wonder whether we are still supposed to be remembering his poor me speech after the jilting of Kirstie. When he protested at how hard he’d tried to step into John’s shoes. It’s true - he’s never seemed like a natural farmer; he’s all about the next business opportunity and not at all about the rhythm of the land. Jazzer gets far more enjoyment out of his day to day working life.

JessieMcJessie · 11/09/2018 09:05

Didn’t Tom basically feel he had to step into John’s shoes? John was a much more “live the land” type. And that was behind his big wedding breakdown wasn’t it?

Tom was a teen at the time, I was waiting when he mentioned his teenage years yesterday for Pat or Tony to acknowledge that he hadn’t had the easiest if circumstances at home during his adolescence. It must actually be quite tough for him to see Johnny be such a natural at farming when he, Tom, has been trying all these years to live up to Pat and Tony’s legacy. Though I don’t blame Pand T as I don’t think they have ever forced him and have been quite clear he is free to do whatever makes him happy.

JessieMcJessie · 11/09/2018 09:05

“Love the land” type.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2018 09:48

I thought someone would comment on Henry's new voice Grin I sometimes feel sorry for the producers of TA. They can't get the voices right Grin His last voice was ok (young children often sound younger on recordings, if mine were anything to go by).

Now he sounds sulky which is how he is behaving.

Swannykazoo · 11/09/2018 10:00

So, just found the thread after a wee while and I've clearly missed a toe curlingly awful episode where Russ comes round for -tea- supper at LL. It wasn't omnibus this Sun. Anyone able to tell me when it was so I can listen very vicariously?

R4 · 11/09/2018 10:09

Swanny, it was Friday 31st. catch up

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2018 10:24

Ref. Tom, he did seem properly enthusiastic about the tree growing idea. ASFAIK It works well where it's been done. Some of the french new wave farmers are doing it. If it's started with young, fast growing trees the outlay wouldn't be enormous, with the high cost of mature wood, and a specific unusual crop, it'd pay back quickly.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/09/2018 10:44

I've forgotten what types of tree tom discussed with Johnny, but pigs foraging under trees isn't exactly a new concept - e.g new forest, orchards (didn't Brookfield have some orchard pigs?) or of course wild boar in places like the Forest of Dean. Though it sounds like that would be quite a long term project to grow the trees big and robust enough before introducing the pigs.

Gersemi · 11/09/2018 10:48

I can see them doing a compromise involving both a dairy herd and the trees, thus diversifying the business yet further. Unless they lose the kefir, which would make plenty of sense.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2018 10:57

I didn't hear any speciific type of tree discussed Errol Helen was busy throwing cold water on the plans, as if she's still annoyed about him allowing Henry to watch\play the computer games, she' s quite immature. She needs some sort of therapy with Henry.

R4 · 11/09/2018 10:58

pigs foraging under trees isn't exactly a new concept

Yes, they do like their haycorns but oaks aren't particularly fast-growing!

girlwhowearsglasses · 11/09/2018 11:59

I am guessing Henry has ADHD or isn't neurotypical. About time someone on a soap had to deal with this (part of my life too). I hope they do it realistically with the 12 months wait to see CAMHS...

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2018 12:16

Henry seems surprisingly normal actually, considering what he's been through and considering that he appears to have had no counselling of any sort at all. Many middle class parents-including myself-are horrified to discover their boys' interest in guns.....

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2018 12:18

Loving the idea of planting oak trees for pigs-considering most of Tom's initiatives seem to last about three and a half days it's quite a contrast........

MeanTangerine · 11/09/2018 12:31

Of course, to be really realistic Henry will need to get excluded from a couple of schools, then get referred to CAMHS, then wait 12 months, then do 6 hours of assessment interviews, then be offered a therapy for which there is another 12-month wait.

As pp said, the interest in guns is normal, the speech delay is quite concerning. Hope Henry enjoys the karate.

redsummershoes · 11/09/2018 12:33

why doesn't helen buy milk from ruth?
should be good quality unless josh buys cheap feed

Fink · 11/09/2018 12:57

Anyone else think that Henry's going to dwell slightly too much on William's throwaway comment about needing to 'protect' his pheasants from would-be attackers by shooting them?
