As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

Silly question but... what subject is Lily actually going to be doing at Manchester?

I'm pretty sure we haven't been told. We don't even know all her A level choices, I don't think. There's the language (German or French, I can't remember which) she was revising with Freddie, and I think History (may be bring that up/ confusing her with people IRL). I think we're supposed to assume she's one of an undifferentiated mass of humanities students, a bit like Phoebe. Did we ever find out for sure that Phoebe was doing PPE or was that just speculation?

Gruach · 07/09/2018 20:58

Pretty sure Phoebe is doing PPE.

My best guess for Lily’s A’ Levels (clutching at the edges of recollection of what she’s said) is German, Geography and ... Biology. (I know it seemed a somewhat random conglomeration of subjects.) But no idea at all about her degree subject.

I dunno ... We keep hearing how clever and talented she is ... Confused

DadDadDad · 07/09/2018 21:00

Lily seemed shocked that Russ might be barred from teaching, so presumably up to this point the line has been that Russ could do some supply or tutoring while getting his artwork Hmm off the ground.

GoatYoga · 07/09/2018 21:12

Just put your sodding phone on silent.

AlecOrAlonzo · 07/09/2018 21:16

Not only will he not be able to teach but he won't be able to get any kind of job. If he avoids getting done for grooming that will be one thing but no one will employ him off the back of his reference.

C8H10N4O2 · 07/09/2018 21:36

I'm sure there was an episode discussing Lily's subjects and degree. I thought she was going to read Politics or possibly Politics and something having done A levels in English, possibly Geography and Politics as the other two.

Kenton calling the college is a bit obvious unless its intended to create massive dramatic fall out (Lily stomping off blaming Elizabeth, Elizabeth angry with Kenton for interfering, drahmatic waits before they find out it was Kenton...zzzzzz)

MikeUniformMike · 07/09/2018 21:44

Phoebe is reading PPE. Lily will see the light sharpish. Russ thinks she is a trust fund babe who will fund his lifestyle.
Maybe Lizzie has done the right thing by not pointing out what a pretentious tosser he is,

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2018 21:56

You're right about biology which didn't fit with whatever the other two were.

TigerTeatimes · 07/09/2018 22:10

Not had chance to catch up since earlier so forgive me if I'm repeating what's been said but love Lily's breathless uncertainty at Russ's planned unemployment. So like Elizabeth. Really well done!

echt · 07/09/2018 23:05

I had to re-wind the start of this episode (iPlayer in Au) because couldn't think what all the inside/outside stuff Russ was enthusing about. I missed the "eat" over the sound of the boiling kettle (one temperature only in my hovel, I'm afraid). My fevered imagination was thinking colonic irrigation å deux. I blame it being 6.00 a.m. and insufficient tea on board.

Russ is such colossal wanker, isn't he? He's probably right about the legality of his relationship with Lily, but the college protocols will no doubt ensure a full sacking.

I like the way the SWs have built up his character so that one is torn as to what is the worst aspect of the man, his exploitation of a much younger person or his prissy, fussy ways. I bet he's an absolute bugger if his boiled egg isn't just right.

As for the money, he's remarkably sanguine about jacking in a job that pays about £45,000 pa. and his teacher's pension. Just how much money does he think Lily has?

Gersemi · 07/09/2018 23:36

Lily certainly didn't sound too keen on living off baked beans and supporting a struggling artist. With luck this is the beginning of the disillusionment process, let's hope it doesn't take too long for reality to dawn.

Gersemi · 07/09/2018 23:41

There's no real need for Freddie to be sitting around getting bored, is there? Surely he could be helping out on one of his relatives' farms or at the stables or something? I imagine it would sound better when he gets to court as well if he can say he has a job.

C8H10N4O2 · 08/09/2018 00:08

Lily certainly didn't sound too keen on living off baked beans

She sounded like she had assumed he would continue a job similar to his current role, with no idea he was planning to give it all up to be An Artist.

EBearhug · 08/09/2018 00:09

One of Lily's subjects was German, because Freddie was testing her and lesbian came up, which was around the time of the Meredith story starting.

C8H10N4O2 · 08/09/2018 00:10

Just how much money does he think Lily has?

Probably the smart move from a family member would be to make friends with him and talk about how hard the entailment is that Lily gets nothing and has to make her own way, whilst Freddie cops the lot.

TigerTeatimes · 08/09/2018 00:16

I'd forgotten about Pip's room grumiosmum - how funny that the Grundys et al all have magical expanding bedrooms and the stately home can only shrink.

Gruach · 08/09/2018 05:35

Indeed! One thing the incoming editor could do is issue a total, permanent ban on panic-writing that depends on the reinvention of domestic accommodation.

And can I add Freddie to the list of people who might have snitched on The Artist Soon To Be Known As Cocklodger? (Though I guess it is more likely to be Mrs The Artist.)

So:

Lara
Deeply ashamed Ma or Pa of The Artist
Freddie
Phoebe
Kenton
Geraldine
Lewis Can anyone confirm he is still alive and living at Lower Loxley?

And this only because the SWs are portraying Usha (+?) as criminally incompetent. Hmm

Minimammoth · 08/09/2018 06:05

I really need to catch up. Lilly needs a good shake. I wonder if she knows how hard it is to create a living income in the art world ( without teaching).hes not going to be in Damien Hirst realms is he.
Also wonder if she has posed for him as his muse( ref.Jean Brodie)

ADarkandStormyKnight · 08/09/2018 06:27

Has Russ actually left the college yet?

BertrandRussell · 08/09/2018 07:32

It sounded very much as if Lily thought Russ was going to get a job. It was her paid the deposit on the flat, wasn’t it?

Gersemi · 08/09/2018 07:41

I guess that in Russ's mind, lucky Lily/Lizie gets to pay for all his art materials as well as the wok and the coffee grinder.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 08/09/2018 07:57

Russ will expect Lizzie/Lily to pay and (if they ever get to Manchester) will almost certainly stop Lily making her own friends or spending money on her own interests.

LillianGish · 08/09/2018 08:08

And we thought he was after her for her money - it very much sounded like the other way round at the end there Grin Well that sounded like the beginning of the end as reality bites. Quite funny that Russ is unable to see that the main attraction to Lily was his being in a position of power (well power relative to a 6th former) and presumably the frisson of all that secrecy - being shacked up with an unemployed 40-year-old isn’t going to have quite the same kudos at Freshers Week (even if she is the only student in possession of a 3-speed

LillianGish · 08/09/2018 08:08

Kettle)

TigerTeatimes · 08/09/2018 08:41

Aha brilliant!

As much as I can't wait for Russ to do one (or have one done to him as it were), I think a scene of him and Lily foraging in Manchester could be rather humorous.

I mean what's the use of a local vegan cafe when you're living off cold baked beans?
