Thanks to all for the dog ideas, and special mention to Ppeatfruit.

I don't know how viable this cultural reference will be, but the talk between Russell and Freddie reminded me a lot of Skins, where all the teachers were incredibly incompetent and there were some really sinister adults going round as well.

echt · 21/05/2018 21:54

Alistair seeing to Lavinia's schnauzer!! Could this be a new code, like the "Ugandan discussions" in Private Eye back in the day.:o

Also very much taken by Kate's ecstatic dancing class gaining no punters. I had to look it up. It's a thing

Utterly ridiculous and irritating conversation between Freddie and Russ. I can see that Freddie would front him, but the very idea of a man in Russ's position opening up to him in such a way is unbelievable.

DadDadDad · 21/05/2018 22:33

Agreed, echt - were we to believe that Russ is so intoxicated by this pure feeling he has for Lily, that he is a giddy lover who must declare this to everyone?

Except the Principal.

And his wife.

HatingTheBigShow · 22/05/2018 00:13

I'm shocked to find myself in agreement with that little twerp Freddie: there is no way Lily would be so stupid.

TigerTeatimes · 22/05/2018 08:22

Dadx3 that made me squeal laugh

Freddie is on great form of this week.

cheminotte · 22/05/2018 08:23

I’m think Freddy is showing he actually cares for his sister and doesn’t want to see her hurt. I can totally see why she would be attracted to a more ‘sophisticated’ older man.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 22/05/2018 08:32

I think Freddy's main objection is that he's a slimeball. Not cool.

OuaisMaisBon · 22/05/2018 09:04

That conversation between Freddie and Russ was awful. For a start, as has been discussed here, that type of relationship between a college/university student and a teacher/tutor is definitely not on in this day and age, even if the staff member concerned is not married, so Russ's insouciance about the Principal being told is completely misplaced. Rubbish.
But I did love Lavinia's schnauzer. And yes, that feels like the first time I've heard "family gossip" discussed like that on TA, and I've been listening since before ITV started. (Not really, but nearly, in my mother's womb!)

R4 · 22/05/2018 09:29

The gossip didn't ring true to me. I don't see JD, the eternal wronged-wife, taking pleasure in Shula's situation. I would expect more empathy. Or an alarmed realisation that Brine might revert to his old ways if they carry on with the separate bedrooms scenario!

DadDadDad · 22/05/2018 09:54

Dadx3 that made me squeal laugh

Ooh, Mumsnet achievement unlocked! Now I need to see if I can get a "made me spit out my coffee". Grin

Back on topic:
Russ's insouciance about the Principal being told

Surely, it was a lot worse than that - he was blackmailing Freddie by offering not to pursue accusations of drug-selling if Freddie keeps quiet about the relationship! This is the kind of scandal that makes national headlines, not just some bit of gritty domestic drama.

It's so bad I've exceeded my self-imposed limit of one exclamation mark per post!! (

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2018 10:08

Oh Dadx3 Whatever next ? a lol !!! and a Grin

DadDadDad · 22/05/2018 10:25

ppeat - worse, I've got a dank meme brewing...

(Probably should see a doctor about that. Blush)

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2018 11:29

I'd sympathise if I knew what a dank meme was! (sounds a bit unhealthy ) yes call a doc.

Ref. Freddie's drugs; I wonder what they are? Though being an NHS and OTC medic. phobe it probably wouldn't mean much to me if i did know.

Bekabeech · 22/05/2018 11:41

I really liked Freddy, I'm sure he was just about to say that it didn't matter about his future but Lily is important.

What he should do is tell Lizzie, who despite being disappointed in him (furious) would handled the situation well.
Because all they could do is kick Freddie out of college, but she could easily make them let him just sit his exams. The police could be called in but then Teacher/Pupil relationship would make the nationals - and even the principle would be at risk.

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2018 13:18

I've just caught up! I enjoyed that ep.a lot. I like a bit of gossip me Grin . So Russ is a sleaze ball; "We love each other" . Yeah! We fancy the pants off each other more like !

bluerunningshoes · 22/05/2018 14:02

freddie
modafinil?
piracetam?
both legal (ish) medicines

YouStacey · 22/05/2018 14:08

I'm thinking ADHD drugs

LillianGish · 22/05/2018 14:35

Gruach I wholheartedly agree with your most recent comment and was coming on here to say much the same.

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2018 15:07

Thanks bluerunning mind you morphine is also semi legal. YouStacey If he was taking ADHD drugs wouldn't they send him to sleep rather than keep him up at night?

Also if he's up all night how come he doesn't have crashes in the day?

Joan90 · 22/05/2018 15:24

I think Freddie has been sold sugar pills thinking they are wonder drugs. He will be caught selling them and when analysed the truth will out. 5e drugs were placebos and his new found success at study will have been a result of hard work.

DadDadDad · 22/05/2018 15:25

Or a pack of multivitamins. Grin

OuaisMaisBon · 22/05/2018 15:29

Dadx3 - I misunderstood, I thought at the time,Russ is being really ridiculously unconcerned about what would happen if he was found out, somehow I stupidly missed the blackmail aspect, although that was what I was expecting to happen. I don't know where my brain is at the moment, functioning a la Jack Woolley in his later years, I'm afraid.
Re: smart drugs - this website looks seriously scary to me. My daughter has just finished her Finals and told me she knows a few people who were using legal "smart" drugs to improve their concentration - she assures me she didn't use them as if she had done, she'd be getting a First. Hmm

DadDadDad · 22/05/2018 15:39

I used "blackmail" a bit loosely as clearly Russ is not extorting money from Freddie under the threat of revealing his secret. But there's certainly an unsavoury unspoken deal that if Freddie says anything more about the relationship, Russ will pursue the evidence he has about him and Ellis (with the line that out of his love for Lily, he is willing to "protect" Freddie from getting into trouble).

Will Russ get Lily to pressure Freddie into snitching on Ellis? (Ooh, I'm getting into the MysticBore business).

TeenTimesTwo · 22/05/2018 15:41

Am I the only one who cares about the goats doing yoga? Smile

ppeatfruit · 22/05/2018 15:44
