Thanks to all for the dog ideas, and special mention to Ppeatfruit.

Oh Gruach Did you never fancy one of your college tutors? I know I did and intellect doesn't come into it! , I reckon that lust and someone (who should be) unobtainable is quite a combustible situation for a teenager.

echt · 21/05/2018 11:44

I think Freddie nailed it when he said that what Alice said was just the standard line. The script (see Relationships threads). Think of MN threads where posters say a total wankbadger as he screws them around is a "good dad".

Same thing.

Saltcrust · 21/05/2018 11:45

Gruach Grin

ADarkandStormyKnight · 21/05/2018 11:48

Lily might be feeling the loss of her father in looking to an older man for a relationship.

DadDadDad · 21/05/2018 11:57

Ooh, can I have a go at some pop psychoanalysis? Maybe as a twin, Lily wants to distance herself from the immaturity that she perceives in her brother, so has the drive to exhibit a "mature" persona who can have a relationship with a man who is so unlike Freddy.

Bekabeech · 21/05/2018 12:27

There are lots of reasons girls in their late teens and early twenties fall for men like this. Seeming sophisticated, having wider experiences, having learnt how to treat women, nevermind power and danger.

It's why it's forbidden in schools and heavily frowned on in Universities nowadays.

If done correctly it could be a great contrast to previous female student/teacher or lecturer relationships in the Archers.

A bit like a drunk driving one in the 70s compared to now.

Even my DD who is very "you do what you want" gets the issue of power imbalance in relationships.

ppeatfruit · 21/05/2018 12:51

There are also quite a few of teenage boys who lust after older women fgs. It's sex. IMO

CraicMammy · 21/05/2018 13:21

Didn’t Pip have an affair with her tutor? She has such awful taste in blokes.

CeciledeVolanges · 21/05/2018 13:38

I thought he was also a student, and David just mistook him for a tutor because he was so much older, albeit incredibly immature.

EBearhug · 21/05/2018 14:10

Pip and Jude, wasn't it? I thought he was an (im)mature student.

Debbie married her lecturer, though.

OrchidInTheSun · 21/05/2018 14:17

I think the SW could have come up with something a bit better for Lily. An affair with your teacher is such a dull cliche

OuaisMaisBon · 21/05/2018 14:30

When did Freddie turn into such an unpleasant little scrote? I suppose it was round about the time of Lizzie and Roy, wasn't it? Nigel never had such a vein of underhanded nastiness in him and Lizzie, whilst often a spoilt pita, has never been quite as slimily vile as Freddie is. I mean, she was pretty bad about the Brookfield inheritance/division of the spoils, but openly so, IYSWIM?

ppeatfruit · 21/05/2018 14:46

I think sibling rivalry has a great deal to do with it Quais It's normal isn't it? Especially as Lilly has always been the blue eyed girl of the two, He has something to really have a go at now!

I know twins who started life kicking each other and are still at it at age 18!

OuaisMaisBon · 21/05/2018 15:00

Yes, ppeatfruit, I think you're right to a certain extent - but his recent behaviour towards Johnny was uncalled for, he couldn't care less that he put his cousin Nolly's (sorry, too lazy to look up correct spelling of Noluthando) life in danger with those magic mushrooms and is carrying on both taking and dealing drugs, if I understand correctly - do you think that, too, is a facet of the sibling rivalry?

ppeatfruit · 21/05/2018 15:05

Well yes, he's an insensitive male teenager! I think he's well written. Noli wasn't so wonderful either, she was typical.

campion · 21/05/2018 15:05

Freddie's rather vulnerable and has always had to suck up the fact that Lily is brighter, more popular and set for a stellar future. Finally, she's made a mistake and even Freddie can see that. Lily on the other hand merely shows brazen naiveté.

If I were Freddie I think I might be secretly enjoying the prospect of her being knocked off her pedestal.

He needs to get the Ellis/drug problem sorted though.

ppeatfruit · 21/05/2018 15:08

Lizzie's reaction is going to be brilliant , she lives in cloud cuckoo land where her twins are concerned [grin[

ADarkandStormyKnight · 21/05/2018 15:13

Freddie is cursed with having his future mapped out for him as 'posh boy' who will be responsible for Lower Loxley. He has to fill Nigel's imaginary and legendary shoes without Nigel to show him the way.

I bet he feels completely trapped.

OuaisMaisBon · 21/05/2018 15:39

Oh, yes, I'm really looking forward to Lizzie's reaction! Hope this one isn't too slow a burner!

Gruach · 21/05/2018 19:15

OK. This is officially rubbish!

They seriously sat down and planned this nonsense?Confused

ADarkandStormyKnight · 21/05/2018 19:19

Weird. Out of character for Jenny to gossip about 'family'. And the deputy was not believable at all.

TeenTimesTwo · 21/05/2018 19:23

I was watching Countryfile (or the Kate Humble programme) last night and they showed goat yoga. I said to myself 'that's the kind of thing Kate would do on TA' and then lo and behold tonight ... Shock

Part of me is now wondering whether the BBC made it up and put it on Countryfile on purpose as a lead in!

NorthernLurker · 21/05/2018 20:13

The lecturer sounded criminal to me. Aargh the drama!

DadDadDad · 21/05/2018 20:23

It does seem a bit of a strange scenario, but it feels like they are trying to pick up on the "men abusing position with young women" theme that's obviously very current, and throw in the line of "it's not like those relationships that cause a scandal in the media - we are truly in love". Hard to believe he would say all that to Freddie.

But Russ the lecturer certainly gave me the creeps and I wouldn't want my daughter being taught by him even if she were an adult.

goodelfallover · 21/05/2018 21:11

Alistair seeing to Lavinia's schnauzer!!
